Download your favorite Youtube Videos using Metatuber

At Technofriends, i have written about Youtube video downloads earlier either using some websites or softwares, however, this time, it getting even more interesting.

MetaTuber.com is a new way to watch, discover, download and save your favorite YouTube videos.

In order to watch or download your favorite Youtube Videos, all you need to do is as follows

1.) Point your browser to MetaTuber at http://metatuber.com

2.) If you already have a URL for the video of your choice from Youtube, enter that in the search box provided and click on Start. Or, Enter the keyword for your video search and press Start.

3.) If you entered the URL of your video from Youtube, you will get a link to download the video. Save the video using a .flv extension. If you entered a keyword, you can either play or download the video from the search results list.

You can even Burn Youtube videos to DVD for later playback on your Television.

Google Chrome is now Out of Beta. v1.0 released

Earlier Google was planning of taking Google Chrome out of Beta. Now, its official. Google Chrome has finally left Beta and has released v1.0. 

Official Google Blog has the following to say

We have removed the beta label as our goals for stability and performance have been met but our work is far from done. We are working to add some common browser features such as form autofill and RSS support in the near future. We are also developing an extensions platform along with support for Mac and Linux. If you are already using Google Chrome, the update system ensures that you get the latest bug fixes and security patches, so you will get the newest version automatically in the next few days. If you haven’t used Google Chrome for a while, now might be a good time to give it another spin.

In order to update to the latest version of Google Chrome, follow the steps below

1.) Click on the wrench icon within your Google Chrome Browser window. This opens a menu.

2.) Click on the menu item which says “About Google Chrome”.

3.) Google Chrome now checks for an update. If an update is available, it is displayed below as shown in the figure above.

4.) Click Update Now. Google Chrome, now installs any updates available. 

 

Restart Chrome for the new updates to take effect.

5.) Once the updates are installed, restart Chrome for the changes to reflect.

Google Announces Release of “Browser Security Handbook”

At Technofriends, i have written multiple posts on Security and Hacking. Going forward with this, today in this post i will introduce you to the recently released Browser Security Handbook released by Google.

Security of Web Applications begins with Code and spans topics as complex as Networks to Web and Application servers to routers, gateways and Browsers. It’s also important to note that a thorough understanding of Full Browser Specific behaviour is important when considering security designs for Web 2.0 applications.

In order to make the life of a developer and other related to the task of Web Security Desigining somewhat easy, Google says

In hopes of helping to make the Web a safer place, we decided to release our Browser Security Handbook to the general public. This 60-page document provides a comprehensive comparison of a broad set of security features and characteristics in commonly used browsers, along with (hopefully) useful commentary and implementation tips for application developers who need to rely on these mechanisms, as well as engineering teams working on future browser-side security enhancements.

This Browser Security Handbook is meant to provide web application developers, browser engineers, and information security researchers with a one-stop reference to key security properties of contemporary web browsers. Insufficient understanding of these often poorly-documented characteristics is a major contributing factor to the prevalence of several classes of security vulnerabilities.

Although all browsers implement roughly the same set of baseline features, there is relatively little standardization – or conformance to standards – when it comes to many of the less apparent implementation details. Furthermore, vendors routinely introduce proprietary tweaks or improvements that may interfere with existing features in non-obvious ways, and seldom provide a detailed discussion of potential problems.

Browser Security Handbook is an interesting read and talks about Basic Concepts of a Web Browser, Standard Browser Security Features like same origin policy, third party cookie rules, content handling mechanism etc. It also talks about the experimental and legacy security features.

You can run a browser security test through ScanIt for testing the various bugs related to your browser.

Google is planning to take Chrome out of Beta

Techcrunch is reporting that Google is planning to take the Google Chrome, the Google Browser Software for surfing Internet out of Beta. Its to be noted that Google Chrome’s Windows client has been in beta since its roll out 3 months ago, and with the new move will likely spur bundling with Google Toolbar and Google Apps.

Since last couple of months, Google has been doing lots of things from Discontinuing Lively to adding interesting Gmail Labs features, to introducing integrated voice and video chat on Gmail with Gtalk and also integrating chatting within Orkut.

[How-To] Use Google as a Currency Convertor

If you are someone who wants to know the current exchange rate for your preferred currencies, Google is the way to go. 

Google’s Currency Convertor gives you Foreign currency rates provided by Citibank N.A. and displayed under license. However, its in your best interest to verify the currency conversion rate before making any transaction as the rates might vary. 

In order to use Google to use as a Currency Convertor, follow the steps below

1.) Point your browser to Google. 

2.) Type in the following to get the exchange rate of one British Pound to Indian Rupee. You can replace GBP and INR with currency codes of your choice.

How to know if your friend has Blocked you Online on Yahoo,AIM or MSN Messenger

This post describes a simple process to check if your friend has blocked you offline or is really invisible on Yahoo, AIM or MSN Messenger. 

How to know if my friend is invisible on Yahoo Messenger? Has he blocked me on Yahoo Messenger?

In order to figure out if your friend is online but invisible on Yahoo Messenger, follow the steps below

1.) Point your Browser to YahooBlockCheker at http://www.yahooblockchecker.info/

2.) Once at it, enter the Yahoo ID of the person whose status you wish to know. YahooBlockChecker doesnt ask you to enter your userid or password. All it asks for is the Yahoo ID of the person for whom you wish to know the real status.

3.) Press Check after you have entered the Yahoo ID. Yahoo Block Checker then queries the Yahoo Server to know the status of the Yahoo User ID. 

4.) If a user is online and appears invisible to you, you should get the status as Online in the result page. This also confirms that your friend has blocked his actual status from being shown to you.

How to know if my friend is invisible on AIM? Has he blocked me on AIM?

Similarly, in order to check the status of your AIM friend to figure out if they have blocked you on their messenger application, follow the steps below

1.) Point your Browser to AimBlockChecker at http://www.aimblockchecker.net/

2.) Once at it, enter the AIM Screen name of the person whose status you wish to know. AIMBlockChecker doesnt ask you to enter your userid or password. All it asks for is the AIM Screen Name of the person for whom you wish to know the real status.

3.) Press Check after you have entered the AIM Screen Name. AIMBlockChecker then queries the AIM Server to know the status of the AIM User. 

4.) If a user is online and appears invisible to you, you should get the status as Online in the result page. This also confirms that your friend has blocked his actual status from being shown to you.

How to know if my friend is invisible on MSN Messenger? Has he blocked me on MSN?

1.) Point your Browser to MSNBlockChecker at http://www.msnblockchecker.info/

2.) Once at it, enter the Complete Msn ID with @hotmail.com or with @msn.com or @somedomain.com of the person whose status you wish to know. MSNBlockChecker doesnt ask you to enter your userid or password. All it asks for is the MSN ID with proper domain information of the person for whom you wish to know the real status.

3.) Press Check after you have entered the MSN User ID with domain information. 

4.) If a user is online and appears invisible to you, you should get the status as Online in the result page. This also confirms that your friend has blocked his actual status from being shown to you.

I have a friend who seems to be invisible on Gtalk. How Can we be invisible on Gtalk?

Firefox Addon URLbarExt 1.4.8 is an interesting Firefox Plugin which extends the functionality of your Location bar with set of commands which can help you Tiny your URL using Tiny URL, Copy URL, Search Site, Page Tagging and others.

UrlbarExt Extends Location Bar with set of icons to
1- Go up one level,or directly to the root of the current site(double click).
2- Copy the current site URL OR custom formatted URL.
3- Shorten the URL using your favorite service.
4- Search the current site using Google.
5- Tag current Page,this one adds an unique feature to Firefox interface,
make it easier for Firefox user’s to Tag the pages they browse and later find it easily using “Awesome bar” or “Recent Tags” menu
