FOTD – February – Clover We grow giant clover in our garden. It's a wildflower, but it smells like heaven, and it's a perfect lavender. Unlike its smaller brother, it grows about two feet tall with a big, round ball of clover on the end.
GREEN, GREEN, IT’S GREEN THEY SAY
SKETCHBOOK 23: 2-21-2022 I wanted to do a couple of drawings all in green. No flowers, just leaves. Maybe it's the yearning for spring to come. It usually hits me this time of year. We get warm spells in February that feel very spring-like, but usually the thermometer pops back down to very cold for … Continue reading GREEN, GREEN, IT’S GREEN THEY SAY
THE GREATNESS OF GREENERY
GREEN AND GROWING I love the orchids and the cactus blossoms. I love the anthurium and its ever-present scarlet flowers. But most of all, I love having the greenery. The endlessly growing plants that remind me, even during the coldest of winters, that there will be a springtime. Ivy and more And when I went … Continue reading THE GREATNESS OF GREENERY
IF CEZANNE WERE PAINTING ODD SQUARES
Garry took this one, and I turned it into art. It's a square picture of the inside of Duke's crate. Duke not being an artist, I had to make art on his behalf. How many bones can you spot? Photo: Garry Armstrong
SKETCHBOOK 21 – BIRDS & FLOWERS
The more frustrating life gets, the more I draw. It was a stressful night. Many pictures emerged. Two I like well enough to show off. Columbine Starling I did others, but they aren't quite ready for prime time. I wasn't even sure about the Starling, but Garry really liked him, so here he is.
THE FORTUNE TELLER WHO RUINED MY GRANDFATHER’S LIFE – BY ELLIN CURLEY
My father was a scientist and a very rational man and he didn’t believe in religion or have any superstitions, except one. He told me to never, ever go to a fortune-teller. He had a logical reason. HIS father had told him an eerie story about HIS experience with a fortune-teller, which had haunted him … Continue reading THE FORTUNE TELLER WHO RUINED MY GRANDFATHER’S LIFE – BY ELLIN CURLEY
SPECIAL TOOLS
CFFC Pizza Cutter and thermometer We make a lot of pizza. It is the go-to food for when we don't want to cook or order out. There is a pizza place on the corner. We could go down there. Using the oven at home is a LOT cheaper. You may not consider a pizza cutter … Continue reading SPECIAL TOOLS
MYSTERIES OF DISAPPEARING STUFF
If ever I were to believe in parallel universes, it would be now. Things are disappearing. Not just my stuff. Our stuff -- from eyeglasses to written notes, from kitchen items to sleepwear. The first vanishing event was the disappearance of Garry's computer glasses. These are prescription glasses, and they never left the house. The … Continue reading MYSTERIES OF DISAPPEARING STUFF
ODD SQUARE FOR THE WRONG REASON
WHY SO ODD? There's only one odd thing about this image, and that's because I had deleted and reloaded a whole filter twice before I could finish it. Everyone is busily updating software -- and half of the new software doesn't work, including my Topaz filter. I'm beginning to really dislike computing. I always loved … Continue reading ODD SQUARE FOR THE WRONG REASON
SKETCHBOOK 20 – ONE MORE ORCHID
Last night, I discovered less is more. I had done a really good drawing, but it needed one more leaf. Instead of adding the leaf, I tried to add another flower -- and by the time I was done, it was trash. In art, less is almost always more -- unless you are a lot … Continue reading SKETCHBOOK 20 – ONE MORE ORCHID
