This is the final post for the A to Z Blog Challenge 2024 It’s been lots of fun going through all the old songs I remembered as being silly, and finding a couple new ones or so.

A big thank you goes out to everyone who visited, liked, and commented on these posts! 🙂

Here’s another cute little song made by the StoryBots team about the letter Z. It’s done in cartoon style and shows items that are mentioned in a fun way.

To learn more about the StoryBots, they have these viedos (and more), and books, and TV shows for children.

“Zorro” is a show I watched all the time as a kid. I liked the sword fighting, and especially liked to see Zorro riding his awesome black horse.

***

From a Wiki article:

Zorro (Spanish for ‘Fox’) is a fictional character created in 1919 book by Johnston McCulley, He is typically portrayed as a dashing masked vigilante His signature all-black costume includes a cape, a hat known as a sombrero cordobés, and a mask covering the upper half of his face.

He is also an accomplished rider, his trusty steed being a black horse called Tornado.

Zorro (also known as Disney’s Zorro) is an American action-adventure western series produced by Walt Disney Productions and starring Guy Williams. Based on the Zorro character created by Johnston McCulley, the series premiered on October 10, 1957, on ABC. The final network broadcast was July 2, 1959.

***

“Zorro”, the TV theme song was written by Norman Foster and George Bruns, and first recorded by the Mellomen, and later by the Chordettes.

This is the opening and closing of the TV Show: The clip shows him riding, and then in a sword fight with another guy. The sword is his trademark that he uses to cut a letter Z wherever he has been.

Flower of the Day – Blue Rose

Flower of the Day – Blue Rose

***

This is a beautiful blue rose under a glass dome.

The label says:

Vermeille blossoms are produced by using a gentle processing of real flowers. Early in the morning when the flowers open in natural perfection, selected quality roses are cut from the plant. After using a sophisticated procedure the flowers become long-lasting beauty that look as fresh and natural as the moment it was cut in our fields.

And from an article I was reading about blue roses:

A blue rose is a flower of the genus Rosa (family Rosaceae) that presents blue-to-violet pigmentation instead of the more common red, white, or yellow. Blue roses are often used to symbolise secret or unattainable love[1]. However, because of genetic limitations, they do not exist in nature. In 2004, researchers used genetic modification to create roses that contain the blue pigment delphinidin.

So-called “blue roses” have been bred by conventional hybridization methods, but the results, such as “Blue Moon”, are more accurately described as lilac in color.

This is a fun little song that is fun to sing along to. The animated video is fun, too. I do have one remembrance of this, which is pretty silly.

One of the older girls I knew (I was in classes with her younger sister) had a yellow Mustang car. She would pick up me and another girlfriend to ride to school, so the four of us would be riding around singing this song because she named her Mustang the Yellow Submarine. See, I told you it was silly! haha 🙂

***

Lots of fun facts on this article: https://www.songfacts.com/facts/the-beatles/yellow-submarine

Here’s a Wiki article about the song if you want to know more about it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_Submarine_(song)

“Yellow Submarine”, by the Beatles, is a children’s song that was released in 1966. It was written by Lennon-McCartney, and is on the Parlophone (UK), and Capitol (US) labels.

***

[Verse 1: Ringo Starr]
In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines
[Verse 2: Ringo Starr]
So we sailed on to the sun
Till we found the sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
In our yellow submarine[Chorus: Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, John Lennon & George Harrison]
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
[Verse 3: Ringo Starr]
And our friends are all aboard
Many more of them live next door
And the band begins to play

[Chorus: Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, John Lennon & George Harrison]
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

Flower of the Day – Monday Mauve

I never know for sure between chrysanthemums and dahlias. I did read that one way is to look at the leaves. Mums will have a more frilly looking leaf, and dahlias will have a more elongated or oval shape.

So, I’ll call these dahlias. In the past I’ve called them mums.

In any case, they are light pinkish purple – mauve!

Ghost and Steve had walked quite a ways down the beach. They were in no hurry, just talking, and letting the waves lap at their feet.

“Remember the time we drove the car into the ocean?” Ghost asked.

Steve frowned. “Um, no…why would we do that? It would ruin my car.”

Ghost stopped walking to gaze out at the ocean, now turning dark. “We did it in a dream, and it turned out to be the sky instead. The glowing fish were the stars, and everything was upside down.” He nodded, as if this were a fact.

“Oh, one of your cool stories?” Steve asked, not really remembering.

Looking at Steve, now, Ghost’s heart ached. “You never believe me, Steve,” he said. I tell you my dreams every time.” He paused a few seconds, then shrugged. “It’s ok. You don’t have to care.”

Steve didn’t know what Ghost was getting at, what he was trying to say. “I like hearing your dreams, but that’s all they are…fun stories,” he said, knowing that sounded lame.

“Whatever…” Ghost said, and continued walking in the sand.

Steve hadn’t moved, and just watched, as Ghost kept walking farther away from him. Something was really bothering him, and he knew for sure, when he saw Ghost’s shoulders shaking, and saw him reach up to swipe at his face.

He ran to catch up with Ghost. Clutching Ghost’s wrist, he jerked him around to face him. Ghost didn’t resist, nor did he look up at him. He just stood there, swaying slightly, letting the tears fall to the sand below. Steve’s heart lurched, to see Ghost in such distress, so pulled him into an embrace.

“Come here, Babe, what is it? Why are you so sad?” He kissed the top of Ghost’s head, smelling the fresh sea breezes infused strands of hair. He could feel Ghost’s heart beating so fast, feel him breaking down, losing strength. Easing them both down, sitting side by side in the cooling sand, Steve tried again.

“Tell me what’s the matter…please. Did I say something to upset you, make you mad? I’m sorry if I did.”

Ghost shook his head, and sighed. “No, I’m just tired…so  tired, Steve.”

“I know, and we’re going home, as soon as we get back to…”

“No, that’s not it,” Ghost said. “My insides are tired.”

“Your insides? Are you sick, do you hurt somewhere?” Steve asked, as he felt Ghost’s forehead, to see if he had a fever.

Shaking his head, Ghost said, “No…myself, my whole being. I don’t know what it’s about, but I feel it.”

Steve’s mind was racing, trying to come up with a word, or anything to unlock what Ghost was talking about. Then, latching onto a word that flitted through his mind, he asked, “Your…soul?”

Ghost looked into Steve’s eyes. “That’s it,” he whispered.

“What…what do you mean?” Steve asked.

Ghost lay his head on Steve’s shoulder, and took his hand in his. “My…soul…is tired. It’s ready to go…back. I’ve felt it being called back for awhile now, but I don’t…didn’t want to listen to it. Now I can’t stop it, anymore. Steve, I’m scared…so scared.” He began sobbing again.

Steve’s heart was skipping beats; he thought he might pass out. No…no…I can’t…not now… But, his eyes and ears started acting weird, and a buzzing was coming from somewhere far away. He blinked a few times, trying to clear his vision of sparkly dots.

Ghost squeezed Steve’s hand, hard, bringing him back from a near faint. “Steve? Can you hear me?” he asked, right up in Steve’s ear. “Steve?”

Steve nodded, but slowly, as it was making him dizzy. His nightmare was almost coming true. His fear of Ghost willing himself into another state of being, of actually becoming a ghost, had plagued him all these years he’d known Ghost.

“Don’t say that,” Steve managed to say. “Don’t ever say that.”

“But, it won’t stop. I can’t make it stop. It’s the way it’s supposed to be, the way it’s been every time, before, the way it will always be. It will happen again and again.” Ghost said. He pushed back Steve’s hair from his forehead, feeling how cold, and clammy he felt, yet he was drenched in sweat.

“We’ll find each other again…you know we will, but this time is over. I have no control over it, anymore…and I’m so tired of trying to make it not happen.” Ghost hitched a sobbing breath.

Steve took hold of Ghost’s shoulders … God, he’s so thin… gripping hard. “Don’t let yourself give in, Ghost. You are strong. Fight for your life, fight with all you have. Don’t just give in to it, the feelings you’re having. You’re just sinking into depression, that’s all. You’ve been there before, where everything seems hopeless, and you know it doesn’t last long. You know this. There is help…your therapist, medicines…do all you can for yourself, and let me help you. Please, please don’t give up on life, on yourself…on us…”

Don’t leave me alone…Don’t leave me alone…DON’T LEAVE ME ALONE… I’m begging you, please, please, God, do something. You can’t have him, yet No way…NO WAY… Steve was shouting in his head.

Ghost heard it all. All of Steve’s thoughts, and he knew Steve was frantic, could snap at any second. He wanted to calm him down, but how? Now that he’d started the whole thing…how? A quick thought formed in his head…

Wow, I’m feeling energized, again. This rant of Steve’s is making me feel alive, again. Why? Why, when Steve’s angry with me, does it get me going, get me turned on?… He grinned, in spite of himself. He didn’t even realize that he was doing that, but Steve saw it…and he snapped.

“What the hell, Ghost? You think it’s funny, now? Is this some sort of test of my loyalty to you…of my love for you?” He stood up, now looking down at Ghost. “That’s the shittiest thing you’ve ever done, and you’ve done plenty. I can start naming them…is that what you want? Huh?”

April 28, 2024 – Songs performed with orchestras and/or choirs suggested by Nancy aka The Sicilian Storyteller

***

Lots of music has been made and enjoyed with one, or a few instruments, but when you add strings and horns, or a full orchestra into the song mix, it makes it seem so much more full of sound that all blends together to be something even more enjoyable. This is certainly true for these I chose today.

Plus, I always liked watching people play their instruments like violins, because I payed violin in orchestras for quite a few years in school classes and in concerts and competitions.

“No Leaf Clover”, by Metallica, featuring the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, was one of two collaborations they did for the 2000 album, “S & M” (Symphony & Metallica). It was released as a single, and is on the Electra label. It was written by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.

The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Michael Kamen. This video was recorded live at the Berkley Community Theater on April 21 and 22, 1999.

It went to # 1, and stayed there for seven continuous weeks, for Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks.

The song has been  heard in the TV series, “Farscape”, and is included in the music game, “Guitar Hero”.

Lyrics: And it feels right this time On this crash course with the big time Pay no mind to the distant thunder New day fills his head with wonder, boy Says it feels right this time Turned around and found the right line Good day to be alive, Sir Good day to be alive, he said, yeah Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel Was just a freight train coming your way Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel Was just the freight train coming your way, yeah Don’t it feel right like this? All the pieces fall to his wish Sucker for that quick reward, boy Sucker for that quick reward, they said Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel Was just a freight train coming your way Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel Was just a freight train coming your way, yeah It’s coming your way It’s coming your way Yeah Yeah Here it comes Yeah, then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel Was just a freight train coming your way, yeah Then it comes to be, yeah Then it comes to be, yeah Then it comes to be, yeah Then it comes to be, yeah Then it comes to be, yeah Then it comes to be, yeah Then it comes to be, yeah Then it comes to be, yeah

One more, just because I really like this song …

This is the first song I thought of today, and I’ve always really liked it. I’d never really knew the lyrics except the repeating chorus, but now reading them through makes me like the song even more.

***

From a Wiki article:

The song became the band’s first top 10 single in the United States, reaching number 9,[3] and helped boost public awareness of the band in the U.S.

***

From a Songfacts article:

Jeff Lynne revealed during an interview with Uncle Joe Benson on the Ultimate Classic Rock Nights radio show that he wrote the song to prove a point to his dad. He explained that they were arguing about something when his father said, “That’s the trouble with your tunes… They’ve got no bloody tune!’”

So Lynne said to himself, I’ll show you a tune then, and wrote “Can’t Get It Out Of My Head,” “just to show him I could write a tune!”

“Can’t Get It Out Of My Head”, by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), was released as a single from their 1974 album, “Eldorado”. It was written by Jeff Lynne, and is on the Warner Bros & United Artists label.

Midnight on the water
I saw the ocean’s daughter
Walking on a wave she came
Staring as she called my name
And I can’t get it out of my head
No I can’t get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
‘Cause I can’t get it out of my head no, no
Breakdown on the shoreline
Can’t move, it’s an ebb tide
Morning don’t get here tonight
Searching for her silver light
And I can’t get it out of my head
No I can’t get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
‘Cause I can’t get it out of my head, no, no
Bank job in the city
Robin Hood and William Tell and Ivanhoe and Lancelot
They don’t envy me, yeah
Sitting ’til the sun goes down
In dreams the world keeps going ’round and ’round
And I can’t get it out of my head
No I can’t get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
‘Cause I can’t get it out of my head, no, no
Oh I can’t get it out of my head
No I can’t get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
‘Cause I can’t get it out of my head, no, no, no, no

Weekly Prompts Weekend Challenge – One Day

***

One day in the fall,  September 1, 1972, was beautiful. My husband and I were living in Germany, courtesy of the Army, at the time. We’d been invited, by friends, to attend the Olympics, which were being held in Munich. They had tickets to see some events, but had no one to babysit their little girl…a few months old…could we come and watch her for them, while they went into the Olympic Staduim. We could, and we just walked around the grounds, enjoying the sights.

As we walked along, with the baby in one of the back carriers for little ones, a person came up to us, handed us a couple of tickets, and said they couldn’t stay to attend the event. We could have their tickets, if we wanted them, at no cost. Well, ok, this is cool, we thought. We hurried over to the stadium, and got to see some of the track and field competitions. There was a huge crowd making lots of noise, but we found a seat. Afterwards, we met up with our friends, went to eat in another huge food area, bought some souvenirs, then drove back home, to Furth/Nuremberg.

Little did we know, that less than one week later, the world would be shocked at what happened on September 5-6, 1972, right there in the Olympic Village, close to where we’d just been.

The Palestinian group, Black September, took hostages of the Israeli Olympic athletes, and others, and ultimately massacred all seventeen of them.
