A 2 Z – 2026

A 2 Z – 2026

I told myself I wasn’t going to do the A 2 Z challenge in April this time. But I’ve done it every year since I started  blogging, so guess I’ll do something for it this time, too.

No theme, and  not official, but just random things for the letters. Whatever I think of on that day.

***

It is almost April, and what does that mean? It means it is time for the annual A to Z Blog Challenge! This challenge is to post something every day, except Sundays, in the month of April, that follows along to the alphabet. Each day will be about something to do with the letter of the day.

***

I don’t usually have a strong theme to my posts, just thinking of something on the fly, as it comes to me. I have a general idea, and do a tiny bit of planning beforehand, but most is just done stream of consciousness style. I sometimes have the ‘Mystery Box Chickens’ helping out.  I think they are ready for another A to Z Challenge. They think they are the stars of the show. What do you think? hahaha

Here they are now saying Welcome and happy A to Z!

Now for my idea for a theme. I don’t have one. It will be random things, and maybe a song/video.  Yeah, I’m going the easy route this time. And,  the ‘chickens’ might have a word or two to say. 🙂

Hope to see you here soon! Happy reading, and happy A to Z blogging!

A big bouquet of pink and yellow flowers include roses, lilies, tulips, and I think there is a pink daisy in the back there as well. This was taken through the window of the refrigerated case at the store, and there is a mirror behind the flowers, too.

Share Your World

For Di’s challenge:

Share Your World 30th March 2026

***

1. Can you speak a second language? … No, I just know a few words in a few other languages. I did take two years of French, but there are no French speakers here that I know of, so never hear it spoken. I know a few words of Spanish, German, and Japanese.

2. Can you remember any popular novelty gadget from the past that is not so widely available today? … Any of those ‘seen on TV’ commercial products would qualify for this. Mostly kitchen equipment of some sort. There were lots of ‘Ronco’ products too. There was a kitchen food chopper/slicer deal called the Veg o matic. It was plastic with metal inserts, and you could change them. You push down on the food and it goes through the blades to make the shape like slice, dice, chop, or whatever. I had one and it worked good.

Here’s a link to the article about it with photos! here

3. Can you juggle? … No. I think I tried a couple of times, and couldn’t get it.

4. What is your favourite snack food? … Too many! I like snacking better than having real meals. Peanut butter and graham crackers is a favorite, also apples. I like cheetos way too much, and Ritz crackers too. I’d eat sweets, but not supposed to any more. (I’m snacking on crunchy cheetos right now!)

Dan is now hosting Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge! Find information at the below link. Thanks so much for continuing this fun challenge each week, Dan.

For this week’s prompt we are to find photos of things viewed from public transportation.

View from Public Transportation — CFFC

***

I may find some photos, hope so, but public transportation is something I don’t usually do. Here where I live we don’t really have much of this. Taxi, bus, who knows? We never see one anywhere in the city. We don’t have trains or subways either. I’ve been on all these, but in other places though. Maybe years ago I took a picture? … (airplanes will be later in the series)

***

Here are a couple … at the airport, but photos aren’t taken from an airplane. Would an escalator be considered public transportation?

img_4755

Escalator at DFW airport

***

This is a view of the outside of the airport, as we were riding the skytrain around the perimeter to get to our next boarding gate. Mostly it just shows the track we just passed over, but there is an airplane way down below on the left.

***

At the Kansas City Zoo one time, we took the little train that went all around. It would stop at different places for a few minutes so we could look at the animals and take pictures. The first one is of a beautiful giraffe by a tall tree, with lots of greenery and other trees in the background. He looks like he is watching us, too. 🙂

***

One stop was to stop and see the elephants. Here are two, and they are looking at us, too. Next was some white birds. Large and white with long pointy orange beaks. This one was standing on a log, drinking from a water bowl. There was a smaller young one doing the same thing. I think they were storks or cranes?

***

That’s all I could think of that I had photos of which might be okay for the prompt.

Warning … adult content

Ghost frowned, as he looked around the motel room. “No, it didn’t come back in, but I was afraid it might. And it did come back, only in my nightmare.”

Steve nodded. “I knew you weren’t awake, but man, you were all crazed. You were attacking me, Ghost, and I had to make you stop. You growled, and bit me so hard.”

“Oh God…I did this to you? I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you, Steve,” Ghost said.

“I know you didn’t, but it hurt so bad, I tried to make you stop. I’m sorry, too, that I hit you. I didn’t know what else to do. You were coming at me like a rabid dog…all growling. I was thinking you were possessed or something.”

“I think I was,” Ghost said. “It felt like it even if it was in my nightmare.” He touched his swollen eye and lip, and sighed. “You hit me?”

“I didn’t want to…”

“You had to, Steve. It’s okay…you had to. I didn’t know I was biting you. I’m so sorry.” He wrapped his arms around Steve’s shoulders, but Steve shook him off.

“I hate myself,” Steve said. “I said…no, I promised  I’d never hurt you again.” He jumped up from the bed to pace around the room. “Guess that makes me a fucking liar, don’t it?” he stared hard into Ghost’s eyes. “I don’t think I can do this any more. I can’t ever do what’s right.”

Still pacing, he ran his fingers into his hair, yanking hard. “I try…I tried. It just don’t work for me.”

Ghost was getting dizzy watching Steve go back and forth. “Stop…stop, Steve.” He got up, but swayed, and had to sit back down.

“Where’s the gun, Ghost?” Steve asked. “I’m scum, just like Kinsey always said. I don’t deserve you, or your love. I don’t even need to be here any more, hurting you over and over.” He strode to the door, yanked it open, and headed for the U-Haul.

“Steve! Steve, come back here.” Ghost stumbled to the door, holding onto the furniture, as he went, the room spinning wildly in his dizziness. Just as he reached the doorway, Steve charged back in, running into him, knocking him flat on the floor. He looked down at Ghost.

“See? See what happens? It never ends.” Reaching out with one hand, he helped Ghost up. The other hand was holding his gun.

“Put it down!” Ghost yelled. He tried to grab for the gun, but missed. As Steve twisted out of Ghost’s grip, they were both startled, as the gun went off, blasting a hole in the ceiling.

Ghost screamed, sure that Steve had shot himself. Steve dropped the gun, and rushed over to Ghost, thinking he’d shot him. They were both relieved to find out no one had been shot.

“Don’t ever kill yourself…promise me,” Ghost cried, hugging Steve.

“I can’t. I can’t keep my promises,” Steve said, as tears ran down his face. “But, I won’t kill myself, ever again, Ghost.”

Ghost nodded, as he hugged Steve tight.

Linda and Melody ran into the room just then, and they all could hear sirens approaching.  “Oh my God, are y’all okay? What happened?” Linda asked. Melody was hanging back, eyes wide with shock. Before Steve could explain, two policemen, and the motel manager walked in.

“Anyone need an ambulance here?”

Steve shook his head. “No, it was an accident.”

One cop retrieved the gun from the floor, putting it in an evidence bag. He was making a call to headquarters, to check on the gun ownership. The other policeman was questioning everyone about the incident. Then they conferred.

“This gun is not registered to either one of y’all. You don’t have a license for it either. We’ll have to bring y’all in. It’s the law.”

Steve was trying to explain about the gun, but they read him his rights, and handcuffed him. Ghost said nothing, as they handcuffed him, also. As they were put into the squad car, Steve told Linda to follow them to the station. The manager was still going on about who was going to pay for the damages.

“It will be taken care of,” Linda said, as she and Melody gathered up Steve and Ghost’s belongings, and went back to their room. Linda got the kids up, and into the van, as quick as possible.

“Linda, what the hell was that all about?” Melody asked.

“I don’t know, but we’re about to find out,” Linda said.

“Did they have a fight? They were both hurt and bleeding.”

I don’t know,” Linda shouted. She wiped at her eyes, trying to stop the tears that threatened to fall. Her hands were shaking. “Oh, Melody, I just don’t know what to do.”

After a few seconds, Melody said, “It’ll be okay. We’ll figure it out.”

“I know, I’m just so tired, and we’re so close to home. This was all we needed right now, ya know.” Linda said. They were down off the mountain, now, and Linda pulled into the small parking lot at the police station.

Today’s photo is of spiky  and pointy ice formations.

I used to make tea for drinking iced tea later in the day, and put it in an old Mr. Coffee glass pot. I put it in the refrigerator. Then, I notice sometimes that ice has formed on the top of the liquid. It looked pretty interesting, so I took some photos, then zoomed it in closer.

I think the ice makes some really pretty designs, which looks pointy and spiky. 🙂

Then, I have this photo of some icicles hanging off the roof. This is an old photo from the house I used to live in when I was a kid. Icicles are pretty pointy, too!

I chose, “Hungry Like the Wolf”,  by Duran Duran. The last time I posted this song was for another SLS challenge for ‘animals’ – March 10, 2019.

***

March 29, 2026 – Song related to Sigmund Freud’s id exhibiting instinctual drives that seek immediate pleasure or gratification without regard for reality

***

I always liked this song, even if I didn’t know what it was about. It just had a good sound and lyrics. But now I mostly remember it from a true crime that this song features in with the case of murder. Ann Rule, in her book, “Small Sacrifices”, wrote about Diane Downs, and how she shot her children, killing one, all for wanting a man. This was a favorite song of hers and it was playing on the car radio as she shot her kids. One of the survivors remembers this.  In the link below it goes into this more fully.

Here’s the Wikipedia article on how they came to make this song:

SOCS – portrait

For Linda’s challenge:

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS March 28, 2026

***

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “portrait.” Use it way you’d like. Have fun!

***

Portrait … I’m thinking this means a formal photo you’ve had made of yourself? I think I’ve had mine done a couple of times. Once when I was a baby, once when I was older. That one was odd because of the paper it was printed out on, sort of rough, and then colorized in. It is kind of sepia and touches of other color. Then there are the school photos. Would they be portraits if they were done for the school yearbook?

I did look up the Wiki definition of a portrait … A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face is always predominant.

We did have our family portrait done once when our girls were little. I didn’t much like them though. I don’t like my picture at any time or any way, so that’s just me and how I am. I don’t go around taking pictures of strangers that I see, either. Once in awhile, but not often. I have lots of family photos just from a camera or on my phone. Not really portraits though. Some are of the pets we’ve had, too.

That’s all I have to say about that. Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!
