The Flower Hour #34: Roses in Memoriam

***

These are commonly called Larkspur, but also are known as Delphinium, and  are a medium tall flower with deep purple/blue petals. They also can be pink. The pretty little petals are stacked up on the stem.

I always loved these, as my mom always had them in the yard.

Share Your World

For Di’s challenge:

Share Your World 8th June 2026

***

  • Compared to a cloud, how would you describe yourself:
    a) whispy in an almost clear sky
    b) white and fluffy
    c) dark and threatening
    d) thunderous and angry

If I was a cloud I’d be the white and fluffy one – I’m large, white, and pretty much happy in a blue sky, and can take on any kind of shapes you might see.

  • If you were a young animal, what best describes your personality:
    a) an inquisitive puppy
    b) a playful kitten
    c) a skittish rabbit
    d) an excitable pony

If I was a young animal I’d be the inquisitive puppy – I like to look things up, research topics, find out answers to things.

  •  If you were a flower, would you be
    a) something bright and showy
    b) something fragrant
    c) something small and discreet
    d) a weed

If I was a flower I’d probably be a weedy one – a pretty flower, but not contained in a strict flower bed, kind of messy, just wandering around wild doing my own thing wherever I am, in my own world or imagination.

  • If you believe in reincarnation, would you like to come back as
    a) a wild animal
    b) a bird
    c) an insect
    d) a sea creature.

On this one I don’t know, I want to say a tiger, since a tiger is my spirit animal. But also a bird would be nice, too. I like flying in an airplane, so actually flying would be fun.

I chose to feature Freddy Fender. His birthday is June 4th, 1937. Sadly he passed away on October 14, 2006..We still have one of his vinyl albums and are familiar with lots of his songs. His band plays Tex/Mex, Country & Tejano type songs, and are really catchy to hear.

Wiki article for Freddy Fender here

***

“A Little Bit Is Better Than Nada”, by Freddy Fender with the Texas Tornados, is on the soundtrack for the 1996 film, “Tin Cup” with Kevin Costner. wiki article is here

***

Met her in a border town
We proceeded to get down
She turned me on
I dropped the telephoneMoonlight hits the Rio Grande
And the touch of her hand
It makes me high
Like the Fourth of JulyThe bad bandido came into town
But man, I’m gonna hunt that gringo down
But these words keep ringin’ in my earA little bit is better than nada
Sometime you want the whole enchilada
A little bit is better than nada
A little bit or nothin’ at allSaid Cancun was not her style
Turistas there, they drove her wild
The border’s the place
Put on a brand new face

Me and the boys had just hit town
Shake ’em up and rode ’em down
I guess it was fate
I hope I wasn’t too late

One more with just Freddy Fender singing the song

“Before the Last Teardrop Falls”
