Inktober ’25 & 13 Days of Samhain (the wild hunt)

For # 31 and final one I used blue, red, and green ink pens on a blue ribbon with a flower & star and a trophy cup with handles on a stand.

“Fangs”

~

Sharp the fangs

And red eyes pierce

My wicked visage

Is most fierce

Look not upon my face of fear

Lest you feel me rip and tear

Happy Halloween – A Ballad for Jack

A Halloween Poem I wrote in 2015

A BALLAD FOR JACK

Out in the garden, way in the back,

A tangle of vines did grow.

There was a secret, hidden away,

For only me to know.

I watered and tended this special vine,

And, day by day it grew.

Soon, it revealed an orange orb…

I was the only one who knew.

I was so happy, I talked to it…

In fact, I named him Jack.

He grew up big and strong, that gourd…

I think he liked me back.

Then as the days grew cooler yet,

And, the sun was feeling dim,

I wanted Jack to stay with me,

But, it was time to part from him.

And, so it came, that sad, sad day…

Jack said it would be fine…

I took my knife and severed him…

I cut him from the vine.

I cried a river, but through my tears,

Jack looked at me and smiled…

He said to carve a great big grin,

For every little child.

And, so I did, I carved a face

For Jack’s big orange head.

Now, every Halloween night that comes,

Jack’s eyes shine bright, instead.

Witchy Fun

***

This is a poem I wrote for October Poetry Writing Month, way back in 2014.

There are a lot of TV and movie witches that have brought us fun entertainment over the years.

Being it’s Halloween again, I thought I’d re-post it. Enjoy! 🙂

***

WITCHY FUN

From Oz to Salem, to suburban mayhem,

The witches entertained us all.

The witch of the west, was creepy at best,

And Glinda was belle of the ball.

Samantha twitched her nose,

Whenever she chose, and

Sabrina’s cat talks to her, it is true.

Elphaba was wicked,

Endora was vivid…

They all were an interesting crew.

Lily was beautiful and knew what to do

When Herman and Grandpa cooked up a brew.

The Sanderson sisters were funny and camp,

The witches of Eastwick were duped…

They all used their craft, and a bit of their vamp,

But Morticia’s my all favorite champ.

Dead right or dead wrong

Skewered  on the Devil’s prong

Fall for tricks

Flame-fire licks

Crossing over River Styx

But living right

You’ll see the light

Being brave you must behave

When Judgement comes the Lord will Save

Choose your fate, mark the date

Dead right or dead wrong

The End Of Days won’t be long

LOOK INSIDE

~

Take a look,

Take a look,

Take a look inside…

Take a look inside yourself,

What have you got to hide?

What do you see,

What do you see,

What do you see, I ask?

What do you see yourself to be…

What’s hiding behind that mask?

Reveal yourself,

Reveal yourself,

Reveal yourself to me…

Reveal yourself…I want your truth…

Be who you were meant to be.

POEM # 10

MENTAL

Maybe you’d call me mental –

And, maybe you’d be right…

But, if I had my way – it’d be Halloween every night.

Maybe you’d call me mental –

Because I love the night…

My favorite time of evening, is when the bats take flight.

Maybe you’d call me mental –

But, I’m really not uptight…

It bothers me not you call me mental –

Though you know that it’s not right.

Maybe you’d call me mental –

But, I’ll gaze at the moon tonight…

And pray forgiveness for you…

For your hurtful words of slight.

Here’s me in costumes when I was a kid. One I was a gypsy lady (with my sister), and one in a paper bag costume.

Our family had quite a few Halloween Costume parties over the years. We’d all dress up, have games, snacks, a homemade haunted house in the cellar, and I’d read an original spooky story of mine, complete with props, like peeled grapes for eyeballs, and spaghetti noodle innards.  Sometimes, we’d even have a ‘white elephant’ gift exchange game, with oddball gifts to snatch and trade. We had lots of fun! 🙂

2 painted rocks to look like corn on the cob, and a real corn on the cob

***

LOST IN A CORN MAZE

Corn husks rustle, left and right…

Forsaken on this cold, dark night…

Alone…

All alone…

I realize they hypnotize…

Throwing magic into my eyes…

Alone…

All alone…

Is synchronicity a possibility?

Is this accidental, or just incidental?

Alone…

All alone…

I must take action, cause a distraction;

I need interaction; I feel I’m in traction…

Alone…

All alone…

I must use my senses, to break down defenses,

and break free from this agony…

Alone…

All alone…

This test will only make me stronger,

And from this mess, I’ll be lost here no longer…

Alone…

All alone…

Oh, I’m just a scarecrow, who’s biding my time…

Trying to find reason, out of the rhyme…

Alone…

All alone…

So lost in a corn maze,

So lost in my mind…

So lost in a corn maze,

So lost to my kind…

Alone…

All alone…
