I’d say that any song that I hear from Cat Stevens is a comforting song. There’s just something about the sound of his soothing voice, the music, the tone, the lyrics, that all together makes me go ‘ahhhh’ so good, so relaxing.

The first video is lots of artistic images with the words and illustrations, and photos of the singer. Lovely.

The second video of the same song, is of adorable kittens, birds, and flowers. Now that is comforting! 🙂

Today’s prompt is a song that kind of sums up how 2025 went. I suppose it goes different for everyone, with some good things and some not so good things that happened to them. Same for me.

Somehow though, even as we went through our routines and day to day ups and downs, there seemed to be a pall over all of the U.S. and even the world. So much so it just makes us want to scream. There is no getting away from all the bad news, since it is on all media, all the time. Some form of it pops up in all areas when you are trying to shut it out. So … here are a couple of songs that seem to say that.

***

One of several versions of the painting 'The Scream' by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch . This work was produced c 1893.

painting by Edvard Munch ‘the Scream’, person on a bridge holding head, mouth in a scream, all in oranges and blue colors

***

From AI answer:

The “secret words” written in faint pencil on the top-left corner of Edvard Munch’s 1893 painting

The Scream are in Norwegian: “Kan kun være malet af en gal Mand!”.

This translates to: “Could only have been painted by a madman!”.

***

“The Scream”, by Cat Empire, written by Felix Riebl.

***

Lyrics: [F.RIEBL] I, I caught it in a gallery A painting that was called The Scream On a day off in Norway I, I stood before it aimlessly That figure seemed so close to me He’s with me everyday What’s the matter with me? What’s the matter with me? What’s the matter with me? Is it internal, or externally? Sometimes I want to scream like that Sometimes I want to hear that sound Sometimes I want to hold my face And feel the world turning upside down and all around The colours swirl endlessly And everywhere the colours bleed Is everything I’ve never known Screaming back at me Real fake Is anybody listening? Fake real Is it horrific? Is anybody listening? Or is it ecstasy? Or is it just a dream? In sound I couldn’t run away All around in surround It was coming from me anyway Sometimes I want to scream like that Sometimes I want to hear that sound Sometimes I want to hold my face And feel the world turning upside down and all around The colours swirl endlessly And everywhere the colours bleed Is everything I’ve never known Screaming back at me In the wild wild free The wild wild free It’s you and me In the wild wild free Can only have been Can only have been Can only have been Painted by a madman, madman X3

***

***

And this is why I feel the need to hold my head and scream … listen to the catchy song, but read the lyrics. If that doesn’t sum up 2025 I don’t know what does.

***

Kiss 2025 good-bye  = we made it out alive!

A day late on this one …

This is supposed to be a ‘hopeful’ song according to the prompt. I think this one is, as they say, ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’. 🙂

This song is a favorite of  mine, and is on the soundtrack for the 1987 movie, “Mannequin”. It is showing the singers, Grace Slick, and Mickey Thomas, with background clips of the movie of the actors in the movie. They are Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrell. The fun is that the mannequins come to  life and it is chaos in the store. 🙂

***

“Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”, by Starship, is on their 1987 album, “No Protection”. It was written by Diane Warren and Albert Hammond, and is on the Grunt – RCA label.
