Flower of the Day – Spikes

This is what I’d call a cactus, but might just be a succulent. I don’t know the name of it.

Tall green spires with little spikes in small white pots.

These are cactus plants that have another cactus plant grafted onto them. The top parts are vivid oranges and yellows, and kind of look like flowers.

Flower of the Day – Frankenstein

***

This plant is sometimes referred to as Frankenstein. It’s actually a Coral Cactus, aka Candelabra. It’s a grafted cactus and a succulent together. The shape of the upper part is fan-like and has a pink ruffle at the top and pink spikes. I saw this at a store one day. Oh, all parts are toxic, even if you just stick yourself with a spine.

Just Jot It January # 7 – Curious

Daily Prompt – JusJoJan the 7th, 2024

***

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 7th, 2024 is “curious.” Use the word “curious” any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Today’s prompt word is ‘curious’, and I’m going to take the easy road by re-posting a couple of older posts I did on the subject of curiosity. I still have the same thoughts about it today.

You see things and say ‘why?’ But I dream things that never were and say ‘why not?’ ~ George Bernard Shaw

This is a quote from George Bernard Shaw. (July 26, 1856-November 2, 1950) He was a Nobel-Prize and Oscar-winning Irish playwright, critic, and socialist.

I like this quote because I do feel people in general see the things, and happenings in their world, each in their own unique way. Some are satisfied with the surface appearance of what their life is like, or maybe ask a rhetorical ‘why’, but dig no deeper. Then there are others, who are not satisfied with the status quo, so let their curiosity lead them down many other pathways, to find out more.

I know I’m curious about lots of things, and want to know the usual answers to, who, what, where, when, and why. Looking for answers, especially when you go googling, can take a long time, because one thing you find, leads to another interesting thing. Curiosity is a good thing!

CRICKET CAT, CACTUS, and ARTzentangles and art 011

I think my cat, Cricket, likes my art project. Or maybe she’s just curious? She was on the table looking at the cactus paintings of cactus in a clay pot.

If you’re wondering what on earth is in that flower pot, well…it is rocks, painted to look like cacti, cactus, a bunch of cactuses? Well, anyway, I saw something done like this on, of course, Pinterest, and had to try it. I’ve painted on rocks for years…mostly animals, and have done Peace signs, and words, so why not some cactus. I’m sure a real cactus would be laughing at the wanna be cactus, but hey…I tried. So…Nailed or Failed…either way, I enjoyed painting them.:)

The painting in the background, I did many years ago. It’s with acrylics, and on a thick piece of paper.

For now, I’ll keep painting rocks, and pictures, and drawing Zentangles. I have a really cool one started in black and silver, and I’ll post it when it’s done!

Flower of the Day – Zygo Cactus

Here’s a few pots of Zygo Cactus, which have dark green spiky leaves, and white buds and a blooming flower, which is pale pink. I read that it is similar to the Christmas Cactus, but this kind blooms in November so is sometimes called the Thanksgiving Cactus.

I like all cactus and succulents, and have grown some over the years. I do have lots of photos, but don’t want to overload you here, so just posting a couple to look at. 🙂

Here’s a variety of small cacti planted in ceramic white cat containers I saw at the store one day.

The prickly pear cactus has flat green pads and violet colored rounded fruits. All parts are edible. I took this photo a lot of years ago when we visited down in south Texas at Ft. Davis.
