MEDITATING

Singeing sage, consulting crystals,

And eyeing scrying,

I ask my questions.

Oscillating orbs, gauzy ghosts, and soundless spirits

Are my companions.

Slowly I spin 3 times…

I close my eyes to see.

Magnets! Magnets are scary!

I had a post earlier about magnifying glasses, and how scary things look when they are magnified really close up. Things look alien, or monstrous to me. I commented, ‘…don’t get me started on magnets!…’

So what do you know, here is a prompt that lets me get started talking about scary magnets.

I like those cute magnets you stick on the refrigerator. I used to have lots of them. But when we got a new refrigerator I gave them all to my grand-daughter. I only kept a couple.  They are fun  to collect, and you can get them for souvenirs from places you visit. These magnets are fun.

But, in actuality, the fact that something can attract metal things is like some kind of alien like substance. It comes from rocks, rocks in the earth. I have a magnet rock, and it’s creepy. I had to put it in a separate clear box to  keep it away from my other stones and crystals.

Sorry = had to make sure so looked it up – Magnets come from natural sources like the iron-rich mineral magnetite (lodestone) found in the Earth,

Why does something magnetized want to stick something to itself? You don’t even have to touch them together. Just put some metal thing close by, and the magnet will suck it over to it. And don’t wear any metal or have any metal inside you if you have a MRI procedure. Those magnets will suck it right out & off.

See … scary and creepy! And I could still keep on and on about it, but – don’t get me started again – because I have another few stories about magnets, one of which flew off the refrigerator all by itself. … haha 🙂

Today’s prompt has us searching for a song that is based upon a nursery rhyme or fairy tale. The one I chose, “The Pied Piper”, is that and more. It is believed to be a true happening, in the city of Hamelin, Germany in the far past ages.  There are lots of informative accounts of this tale, and the ones I read are really interesting, as well as scary and horrible.

The phrase “pied piper” has become a metaphor for a person who attracts a following through charisma or false promises.

Here is the Wiki article on the poem/folklore tale/nursery rhyme, “The Pied Piper” by Robert Browning. https://www.poetrybyheart.org.uk/poems/from-the-pied-piper-of-hamelin

There are lots of articles about this poem and what it means to different people. Plus the whole poem it seems is over 300 lines long! I admit I did not read it all. The gist of it is that the town of Hamelin was over run by rats so they hired this piper guy who said he could get rid of them. So he played his (magical?) flute, and the rats came out and followed him. He led them to the river and they drowned. So he did his job, but then the townspeople refused to pay him. So to get even he played his flute again which lured all the children in the town to follow him …. and they were never seen again.

Now that is creepy, like he’s some kind of cult leader and probably a pedo too.

The lesson, as stated in an article I read sums it up …

Although we may never know the true events that fueled such a story, there are still lessons to be learned from this mysterious account. Keep your promises, avoid rats, and always exercise caution around mysterious pipers.  https://blog.bookstellyouwhy.com/the-legend-of-the-pied-piper

And here is the bio deal for the singer of this song, Crispian St. Peters, who evidently was just as creepy as the piper in the story. Read about him at the link below. And the video is creepy looking too with all the kids following along behind him as he sings. Ewwww!

Wiki article from Songfacts: https://www.songfacts.com/facts/crispian-st-peters/the-pied-piper

It said he was more interested in  boasting and bragging about himself, saying he was better and bigger known than the Beatles and Elvis, and some others, and didn’t really record many songs.

Here’s the creepy, yet catchy sounding song.

***

“Pied Piper”, by Crispian St. Peters, is on his 1966 album, “Follow Me”. It was written  by Steve Duboff & Artie Kornfield, and is on the Decca (UK), Jamie (US), and London (Canada) labels.

Grandma’s Spooky Garage

My Grandma’s Spooky Garage

***

GE DIGITAL CAMERA

After I posted my flashback post yesterday, about my Grandma’s Ghostly House, here  there was some interest in hearing more.

This then is a true story I posted on August 11, 2014, about my Grandma’s Spooky Garage.

Most of these happened when I was a kid, and I’d be over there at her house.

***

SPOOKY GARAGE

Have you ever felt like an unseen presence was watching you? You get that creepy feeling, maybe your hair stands up on the back of your neck, or you get hyper sensitive of any stealthy noises? Your ears want to hear something, anything, but you don’t…you just feel an overwhelming need to leave where you are. You are being watched. You don’t know who it is…or what it is, but you can sense they are there.

I have had this feeling lots of times. The most frequent was at my Grandma’s house…the one from my previous story. I could feel someone or something watching me in that back bedroom, which was scary, but the strongest feeling of this was in the garage. It was an old wooden and stucco outbuilding, right by the house. It was big enough for one car, and some items hanging on the walls on either side. The floor was just dirt, and there were two doors you’d have to open to get the car inside or out…no automatic garage door on this old place. The whole structure seemed kind of rickety, and there was always a musty smell, of old dirt and car parts. Nothing sinister, just the usual homeowner’s garage filled with tools, and other items.

However, if you went further into the garage, there was another door. Back behind where the car was parked, was a flimsy door. When in that little back room you could feel the weirdness. It didn’t look very strange, just a bunch of canning jars, and miscellaneous stored items, some junk from the house being stored. My cousin and I would always beg to go prowl around in there, though, mainly because it was spooky, and we liked to look at all the stuff.

The very best part, we thought, was an antique trunk. It must have belonged to some long lost relative, I don’t know, but it had all kinds of interesting things in there to look at. There were clothes from a bygone era, mementos, and a strange little box with this person’s hair in it…sort of a long tress of brown and gray, tied with a ribbon. It was fascinating!

Just as we’d get really into our discoveries, though we’d get spooked, because we could definitely feel/sense that we were being watched. Maybe it was the original owner of the trunk, but we never saw anyone…ghost or otherwise. We’d try to stick it out and keep looking, but it never failed, there would come a point where we had to run, run as fast as we could out of there, before the unseen entity grabbed at us.

I went in there lots of times by myself, even when I was told not to, but I couldn’t resist. I never knew what ever happened to that old trunk when my Grandma moved away. Wish I did.

Do you ever get the creepy, being watched feeling?

One more note: Later on, after I was grown up, when my Grandma would go out of town, she’d ask me to come over to water plants, get the mail, and just check that all was okay with the house while she was gone. I would do it, but I’ll tell you what…I did it in a hurry, because being in that quiet house all by myself, was almost too much to take. I could feel the watcher’s eyes on me the whole time!

There is one more story I can remember about strange things that happened in her house. I’ll post it tomorrow.

Thanks for reading my true ghost stories!

Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Flyer/Ad

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Nov. 23/19

***

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “flyer/ad.” Look at the latest ad you got in the mail (if it’s a store flyer, choose the product right in the middle of the page) or choose the next online ad you find, and theme your post on whatever the product is. Do not name the brand if you hate it, unless you add that it’s an opinion/review of the product in question. You don’t want to chance getting sued. Have fun!

***

Today’s prompt for SOCS is to talk about advertisements we get, either in the regular mail or on line. Thanks, Linda, for such an interesting prompt.

To join in this fun weekly challenge, and also see other entries, just click the above link. It’s fun!

***

Well, we get some paper advertisements in the mail about once a week. We never look at them, as it goes right from the mailbox to the trash can. Sometimes I feel sorry for the postman for having to deliver all this trash to people. But, it’s a job, and I’m sure they are glad for it.

Since I have no ads to point to a certain item, I’ll just say something about the on line ads I get. Actually, I don’t get very many of these either, at least on my email notices.

Maybe once a month I get a special offer thing for a restaurant that we used to go to. That’s the key words – used to go to. We don’t go there any more, because the food quality has gone way down. When they first opened it was really good, and nothing is really wrong with it, but something happened, and it’s not so good any more. I find that’s true with a lot of places.

Another ad I get on email is for Crayola products. I don’t really look at them either, just delete. I can see why I do get those, though. It’s because I do the Crayola Color Challenge, and have for a few years.

I know this happens, but it is still strange. I’ll mention on my blog, or a comment in a blog about something, and then later go to facebook and I’ll get ads for whatever it was. The latest was about a new type of journal/writing notebook. How do they do this? I know this company doesn’t read my blog, so how do they know what I said? Kinda creepy!

That’s about it for this time. I think we’re going out to shop and for lunch in a little bit. (not at that place I mentioned!)

I’m really tempted to mention the name of the type of blue jeans my husband will be looking for when we go shopping, just to see if ads turn up for them later. But, I’m not going to. I don’t like seeing ads all over the place. 🙂

Hope y’all are having a wonderful weekend! 🙂

Ooey-Gooey – Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Earworm

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Sept. 8/18

***

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “earworm.” Talk about your latest earworm, or one that habitually haunts you. Enjoy!

***

Linda has asked us to write about ‘earworms’ for the SOCS challenge, today. Thanks, Linda!

***

Earworm, earworm, ooey gooey earworm…no, that’s not how the song goes.

The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out…no, that’s not it either, but it’s a really creepy song.

Earworm sounds pretty creepy, too, but it’s not all that bad. When you say you have an earworm, it means you have some song, or part of a song stuck in your head, and it keeps playing over and over until you’re sick of it.

Most times, for me, it’s a good song, and one I like, so I don’t mind. It helps to go play the actual song, so then you’re done with it.

The worst for me are the TV commercial ads songs. Ugh! I suppose that’s the purpose of them, to get you to remember their product. But, if I can’t stand the jingle, then I don’t want to buy their stuff.

***

If you want to, here’s a whole little story I wrote about earworms. 🙂 It’s creepy and funny! Some of you have read it before, but others haven’t, so…here’s the link to my story:

“It’s All in My Head”

IT’S ALL IN MY HEAD
