These  photos show some night time scenes

1. From our front yard, all dark except the moon by some lit up clouds, and a house by a streetlight lit up.

2. A full round moon in midnight blue sky just over our darkened fence pickets

3. Night lights over Dallas TX as we flew into DFW on e night… lights of the city below in the dark.

4. & 5. Christmas lights on trees in Columbia Missouri one night as we drove around looking at all the decorations.

Simply Red Squares – Odd Mannequins

For Becky’s challenge:

Red Hints and Reflections

It’s time for the Square challenge again! This time the prompt is anything Red, and the only rule is the photo you use Must be Square! It’s a lot of fun to see what everyone comes up with. 🙂

Here’s a couple more funny mannequins I saw at that shop in the DFW airport. These are a longhorned steer and a cow, standing upright dressed  in jeans and T-shirts of red, white, and  blue and the words Texas, and Don’t Mess With Texas.

Christmas Memory # 15 – Blizzard

Christmas Memory # 15 – Blizzard Click to view

For the days up until Christmas I’ll be sharing some short memories of Christmases past that I remember.

Christmas 2015, we went to visit my daughter and her family up in Missouri. We had a great time, but, here’s what happened later …

So, the day after Christmas, we had to unexpectedly  fly back home to TX from MO. We had to cut our visit short, and we were all upset about it, but we were trying to beat a blizzard that was due to happen in our hometown. We needed to get home to see about the house, and also our neighbor was caring for our cats, so needed to check on them, too.  Well, we almost made it.

Flights were cancelled at the Columbia airport where we were, so the airline put us in a limo for an almost 2 hour drive, through flooding rains, to St. Louis to hopefully catch another one. Then at DFW everything was cancelled, they said for days. So…we rented a car to drive home, and it was horrible. On a good day, the driving time from our house to Dallas is around 5 hours, and this was definitely not a good day. For one thing, there was thunder, lightning, and pouring rain…with tornado warnings all around us. We were lucky we didn’t get blown away. Then, finally on the highway, the blizzard hit, big time.

Slippery roads, very little visibility, and strong winds. Creeping along the whiteout highways, at night, was scary. We had to drive only 30 mph for a long, long time. What a mess! Thankful we made it home. Oh, our suitcases were lost somewhere along the way, too. They did finally find them, and delivered them to our house – a full week later!

Here are a couple of pictures. One of our back yard, and one out the front door (we had to shovel our way out it was so deep). If you’re from the north, and are used to this frozen weather, go ahead and laugh. We’ve never seen so much snow, and the whole city shut down for days!

We certainly won’t forget this Christmas.

Frozen…nope, don’t like winter or cold weather. Give me hot, hundred degree weather any time! 🙂

First photo is me, in the grocery store monitor. Next is a metal bench and luggage carts outside the DFW airport. Last photo isn’t really so odd, but was fun. I saw these carolers outside the grocery store. They were taking donations for the Salvation Army. They also had their cute dog dressed up for the occasion, and were asking people passing by to join in their singing. I did for a minute on the song Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. (I forgot to put this photo on my Christmas post, and wanted to just add it here.) 🙂

There were a couple of writing challenges for the month of December that were suggested to me by a blogging friend. Her blog is called “Zombie Flamingoes”, and can be found here: https://zombieflamingoes.com/2016/12/01/christmas-writing-prompt-1-last-christmas/

They looked fun and interesting to do, so I’ll follow the writing prompts, and hope you enjoy reading.

Last Christmas, 2015, we spent an early Christmas with our daughter, son-in-law, and grand-daughter, here in town. It was a fun evening, with food, and gift exchange. We didn’t watch any TV on this night, or play any games. We gave our grand-daughter a princess dress, like the one from the movie “Frozen”. She loved it, and had to put it on right away. Then she sang us the ‘let it go’ song:)

A few days later, we flew out of state to spend Christmas with our other daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. We had a fun few days with them. Our visits never seem to last long enough, though. While there, we went to the mall, and out to eat at a fabulous smokey wing place, walked around in the downtown area to have an ice cream at Sparky’s. Christmas morning we had our gift exchange. We all received new P.J.s pants. Mine was leopard print! We spent time during the visit, by playing scrabble, watching kid movies, eating snacks, and coloring. We had a good time.

Now, this is the bad part. We had to cut our visit short by a couple of days. Back home a blizzard was forecasted, so we needed to get home. We didn’t know how bad it would be, our neighbor was caring for our cats, and the house needed looking after in the bad weather. Sure enough, we did get stuck in the Dallas/Ft.Worth airport. All planes were grounded because of the blizzard and it would be at least a couple of days before we could fly out of there. We decided to just rent a car and drive the rest of the way home. It was horrible! Creeping along the whiteout highways, at night, was scary. We finally did make it home, though. We won’t forget this Christmas!
