Thanks, Hugh, for this interesting prompt!

We were asked the question, is a song without lyrics, a song…or not? If I hear it played on the radio, I think it is a song, even if it is just music. There have been many instrumental ‘songs’ recorded. Seems they were more popular way back when, than these days, but I still like hearing them.

This first song is one I really like. I’ve found myself humming it to myself quite a lot over the years, as it has stuck with me because of what all it represents. The music just does something to me, like an optimistic, uplifting sound. Well, you know how I’m fascinated by all things to do with space travel, time travel, stars, and planets. 🙂 The song was named after the first Communications Satellite, which was launched on July 10, 1962. The satellite was the first one to provide communications through television, telephones, and faxes, to be available to everyone. Just think of how we communicate around the world right now. If it wasn’t for these many satellites that orbit the Earth today, our communications ability would not be so advanced.

Here is the Wikipedia information about the Telstar Satellite. It is so interesting to read.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telstar

“Telstar”, by the Tornados, was released as a single from the album, “Telstar – The Sounds of the Tornadoes”, in 1962. It is on the Decca (UK) and London (USA) labels, and was written by Joe Meek.

This next one is quite a bit different, in that it features of all things, an old fashioned manual typewriter! It’s funny to watch. This is the musician/performer Liberace with his version.

“The Typewriter Song”, was written by Leroy Anderson, and first performed by the Boston Pops Orchestra in 1950.

Pizza Surprise – Stream of Consciousness Saturday – SOCS – Sup

Pizza Surprise – Stream of Consciousness Saturday – SOCS – Sup

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS July 7/18

Here’s what our hostess, Linda G. Hill, has given us for our SOCS prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “sup.” Use it as a word or find a word that contains it. Have fun!

Thanks, Linda!

So, I quickly thought up some words that have ‘sup’ in them…well, these start with those letters. I’m sure there are more, but I didn’t look up any. Here’s the words I thought of to use:

  • Supper
  • supernatural
  • suppose
  • supreme
  • suppress
  • super
  • supercilious

Now, I’m going to try to make up a silly little story using the words, off the top of my head as I’m typing this.

Pizza Surprise

I decided to actually go out for my supper last night. That is, the evening meal. Pizza sounded pretty good, so I found a place not too far away. It’s a new restaurant that opened up recently, and is called Magic Pizza.

As I entered the funky establishment I was happily surprised. It looked like my kind of place, what with all the cool, hippie type decorations. So far, so good, I thought. I sat at a table, because this was actually a pretty fancy place for a pizza hangout. A waiter approached, bearing an oversized menu.

“For your perusal,” he said. (I thought he was being supercilious to the  max, and almost couldn’t suppress a giggle)

suppose he was just doing his job, though, so I smiled and said, “Super!)

I ordered the kind of pizza I wanted…a Supreme, with everything on it in the way of toppings. When it was brought to my table, it looked delicious…and it was.

Soon, I was full and feeling fine. So fine, I began singing a song, right there in front of everyone. That is so not like me, as I just can’t sing in tune, and normally would be embarrassed to break out in song with people watching me.

What’s going on? I couldn’t stop! Other customers were clapping and singing along with me. Then, the haughty waiter approached me again with the menu.

“For your perusal,” he said (again) and gave me a wink. “Read the small print,” he advised.

I could barely focus on the little words, but realization dawned on me. Magic Pizza…magic mushrooms…ohhh…

I started laughing hysterically at my not so supernatural experience at the Magic Pizza Parlor.

I believe I’ll be coming back again, soon!

Flashback Friday is so we can share an older post that may not have gotten many views in the past. I figure a post very near the exact date will be okay.

1,001 HORSE NAMES – or NOT?

1,001 HORSE NAMES – or NOT?

Here I go with a big mistake…a story I’ve told many times over the years, and now I find I got it all wrong! I found evidence of the mistake just today.

The following story is my ‘presumed/remembered’ way it all happened. I even blogged about it on my other blog, on April 9, 2014. It was another entry for the A to Z Blog Challenge. Here’s what is wrong with this…I always just ‘knew’ I’d written down 1,001 Horse Names. However, looking in my scrapbook today for the actual papers, so I could take a photo, I found out I was wrong. It was only 1,000 names.  I also stated that Candy Spots was the first name. It wasn’t…not even close…it was 437! haha – I was shocked! Not a big deal, but still funny how my memory was off like that.

The photo says I did all these names in the summer of 1962, so I would have been eleven years old. I do remember diligently sticking with it all summer long. It was fun. 🙂

Here is the photo: Plus a couple of other drawings I did back then. Did I say I was obsessed with horses? 🙂

**Oh, wow…just noticed number 417 was Ghost! 🙂

1,001 HORSE NAMES

I’ve always loved horses. One summer, when I was ten years old, I believe, I started a big project. My grand idea was to make a list of 1,001 names of horses. I settled on that number, because the movie “101 Dalmations” was popular at the time, and I figured, why not go bigger than 101…I’d do 1,001!

All that summer, I worked on the list…name, after name, after name. Some names I’d just make up, some were of real race horses. My grandad liked to go to the horse races at Ruidoso Downs, in New Mexico. When he got back, he’d give me the racing form from his trip to the racetrack. I’d study all the particulars about the horses, and pick out the names I liked, to add to my list.

The very first horse name I wrote was “Candy Spots”, which was the name of a real race horse. I’d also draw pictures of horses to go with the list, since I loved to draw.

I actually still have that list, and I did make it all the way to 1,001! That was such a fun summer.

MEXICAN FOOD MISADVENTURES

I love to eat Mexican food. Whether making it at home, going to a restaurant, or getting take-out, it is all good, to me.

For some crazy reason, though, there are incidents…strange things happen. The first of three, true stories, I call…

TAMALE TUMBLE

We wanted Mexican food, so my daughter and I drive over to a restaurant to get take-out. As we waited in the long line of cars, at the drive through, we decided tamales would be good. We were getting three separate meals, which came with the tamales, refried beans, and rice. We also got tortilla chips and containers of salsa.

They put it all in a large plastic bag, handed it out the window, and we left. I was the designated bag holder, on the way home. All was going great, the food smelled delicious, and we were almost home.

Suddenly, we had to brake hard to avoid another car. In that instant, the plastic bag of food slid off my lap and into the floorboard of the car. The styrofoam containers flew open, spilling hot tamales, beans, and rice, all over the place. Mostly on my feet. I was wearing flip-flops…the food was hot and squishy between my toes.

What could we do? We cackled with laughter, turned around, and went back to the restaurant for more food. We were determined to get some Mexican food that night.

So, we go back through the line, and the cashier looked at us funny, but we didn’t explain why we were back for more, after only a few minutes.

I kept on squishing the beans between my toes, hoping they’d hurry up and cool off and stop burning me. Finally, at home with the new bag of food, we pull into the garage. I open my door. The cat jumps into the car and immediately starts licking the beans, tamales, and rice off my toes. The hot salsa didn’t even stop him.

It was so worth all the trouble.

~ Stay tuned for the second true story of my misadventures with Mexican food.
