Simply Red Squares – Carousel

For Becky’s Challenge:

Almost halfway, but if you don’t know . . . .

***

***

These little ponies are of the kind you’d find outside a store. Kids love to ride  around and around on them. They only cost a little bit of change for a few  minutes ride.

***

Sitting on a red pedestal is a little blue horse that is on a child’s carousel or merry-go-round in front of a store. He has a red saddle blanket and halter, and black mane and tail. In the background is another horse of yellow.

For Linda’s challenge:

Daily Prompt – JusJoJan the 28th, 2025

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 28th, 2025 is “confusion.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Are these horses and riders confused? Why are they in the lake by our house? I’m confused, but I’m glad I got to see them!  🙂

Lost and Lonely

***

Spirit roams

Lost and lonely

Searching for the soul

You feel it’s wandering

Lost and lonely

Foggy thoughts not whole

Spirit weeps in confusion

Illusion – delusion

Lost and lonely

Drifting in the evernight

Will you not give Spirit solace

Guide him to everlasting light

My photo of a foggy night with a light shining through

One Word Sunday – Three

For Debbie’s challenge:

Three

Three huge creepy clown decorations that were in our neighbor’s yard for Halloween!

***

Here we are looking up at three pairs of mannequin legs dressed in leggings (blue/black/gray) in a store. There were no upper bodies!

***

Three horses & riders wading in the lake by our house.

The number 3 on a checkout counter at the store.

***

My actual children’s book, “The Three Billy Goats Gruff”. This is the first book I learned to read.

One Word Sunday – Above

For Debbie’s One Word Sunday

Above

This prompt goes two different directions, I think. One way is of me above, taking photos of things below, and then me below, taking pictures of things above me, over my head. Anyway, this is how I saw it. 🙂

***

Here’s some I’ve taken:

Here we are looking up at three pairs of mannequin legs dressed in leggings (blue/black/gray) in a store. There were no upper bodies!

Then here are the U.S. flag, a highway overpass, and two horse statues up high.

***

Now I was looking up at these …

Looking up inside the dome of the TX Capitol Building in Austin (there’s a star right in the middle, I guess for our motto – the Lone Star State?”

The next photos show:

  • looking up above at winter bare tree branches
  • Icicles hanging off roof edge
  • Airplane flying overhead
  • tall pole with power lines
  • Gretchen (our cat from years ago) up in the top of a cabinet looking down at us

From a different perspective I now show that I am above, taking photos of things below me…

Metal horses (running across the bare ground). These photos were taken by my daughter the other day while she was at our local park. I don’t know why these sculptures are there, as there is no sign, but they’ve been there for years.

***

An Autumn display at the store includes a pumpkin patch sign, some orange and some white pumpkins, and a nice yellow and orange pot of chrysanthemum flowers.

For Ragtag Daily Prompt the word is horse. 🙂

We see people riding horses around here quite a lot. These three riders and horses were taking a break by wading in the lake by our house one day.

These big horses were pulling carriages around a shopping center parking lot. They were giving free rides at Christmas time.

  • Crayola Crayon – Bittersweet
  • Orange flowers that look a bit bittersweet
  • Bittersweet Color info – hue family of orange, first introduced in 1949

  • My art mosaic of three horses, one is bittersweet
  • A Lion Fish in a bittersweet color pottery bowl (seen at the Kansas City MO aquarium)
  • A spider in a cup – the cup was red plastic outside/white inside, but the lighting makes it look bittersweet

Kentucky Derby Day

Standard

Kentucky Derby Day

***

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with horses! I never owned one, but wished I did.

But since I couldn’t, I watched any TV show I could that had horses in it. I’d watch Western & cowboy shows, like the Lone Ranger, Sugarfoot, Wagon Train, and Roy Rogers, to name just a few. Why? Because they all had horses in them.

I’d also watch the Kentucky Derby on TV every year, too. I’d be so excited, and it seems the race was aired here around lunch time. So, my favorite lunch while watching was grilled cheese and tomato soup. (it’s funny how you remember such details!)

One summer, in 1962, I had the great idea to come up with a whole list of horse names. My goal was 1,001. Some of these names I’d make up, but others I’d take from the racing forms my grand-dad had. He’d go to the horse races in New Mexico all the time, and bring me back the forms. I’d study on the horses, their names, and stats. I was eleven years old, when all this was going on.

Well, I did complete my list. Yay!

I’ve told this story many times, and the thing is…I got a lot of it wrong!!!

Some of you may have seen my post, that includes a few photos of my list, and some horses I drew, but if you haven’t read it, or want to read it again, here’s the link:

1,001 HORSE NAMES – or NOT?

***

Anyway, just thought I’d share a funny song about the Kentucky Derby.

***

***

Have a happy first Saturday in May!

May the Fourth- Force be with you!

Good Luck to the Kentucky Derby participants!
