I don’t know if I could say which is a ‘favorite’ hobby, but I like doing jigsaw puzzles. You already know I paint pictures, and do all kinds of writing, and love reading books, and I enjoy doing these. Also, I stay looking at this computer most of the day, reading blogs, writing, and playing a few games, plus looking at videos.

I have posted about doing jigsaw puzzles quite a bit, also. So, what else is there to say? I don’t know. My husband and I have one going all the time on the kitchen table, and it’s fun to work them. When we finish one, we start another one. We probably have more puzzles in our spare bedroom than a store does, we’ve bought so many.

But we can’t go buying a new one every day, though I wish we could. Some are quite expensive, so we have to work the puzzles we have more than once. In fact, we’ve probably worked some so many times we could do them in our sleep. Yes, they can get boring doing the same picture over and over.

Sometimes we kind of have a race to see how fast we can work one. They get very easy to do the more you do them and you can fit the pieces together fast. We have some we finish in just an hour or so. I work awhile, then he works on them awhile.

We used to do the 1, 000 piece puzzles, but get too impatient to get them finished. Our most common ones are 350, 500, 750 ones, and most are of cats doing funny things, dogs, wildlife animals. We do not do landscapes, or anything with tons of one color.

Anyway, we enjoy doing them every day. Here’s one of the latest we’ve done. We’ve done more new ones too, but I couldn’t get them uploaded. My media file is too full anymore.

We always have a jigsaw puzzle out to work on off and on during the day. We have lots that we’ve bought or been given, and we’ve worked most all of them many times.

We especially like the ones with cats in the picture, but we do all kinds and all different puzzle piece counts from 350 to 1,000.

This one is called, “Picture Purrfect”. It is one of the Cats series of Buffalo brand puzzles, and is 750 pieces. Very cute. 🙂It shows an old fashioned dresser that a lady might have (green antique looking) with make up and jewelry and an oval mirror. There is a tabby cat standing looking into the mirror. It is 750 pieces.

I liked this one a lot, because it was all about spooky things of Halloween! It has a haunted house, monsters of all kinds and ghostly looking things. It is 500 pieces.

We have done this one more than once, and it’s the one we are working on again right now. We’re about 3/4 done with it.

Seven More Jigsaw Puzzles

Seven More Jigsaw Puzzles

We’ve been steadily working on our jigsaw puzzles this past month. Here’s six that we’ve finished, and one we just started on.

This first one we just started yesterday. So far, so good. It’s called, “Puzzler’s Desk”, and is a Buffalo brand puzzle, and is 750 pieces.

I liked this next one a lot. We just got done with it a day or so ago. It has funny words on the items in the pantry, all to do with cats. 🙂 There were lots of pieces with specific words or pictures on them, so it was easier than some other puzzles. It is called, “Ethel the Gormet”, and is from, “The Cats of Charles Wysocki”, a Buffalo brand puzzle. It is 750 pieces

This one is called, “Kitten Kitchen Capers”, and is a Buffalo brand puzzle. It is 750 pieces, and was fun to do. Those cats were sure making a mess.

This one is called, “Classic Gas”. It is 750 pieces, from, “Wheels”, from the Master Pieces brand puzzle.

Here’s a few extra photos of puzzle things: 2 pieces that look like other things, puzzle dust (from the cardboard they are made from), and a large spatula we use to gather up lots of puzzle pieces at one time. 🙂

This one is called, “Roadside America”. It is a White Mountain puzzle brand, and is 1,000 pieces. Lots of things to find on this one!

This one is called, “The Man Cave”, and has lots of hobby type things in the room. It is a Ravensburger puzzle of 1,000 pieces.

This one is called, “Picture Purrfect”. It is one of the Cats series of Buffalo brand puzzles, and is 750 pieces. Very cute. 🙂

Next up I think we will do a Halloween themed puzzle that we already bought! 🙂

JIGSAW JUMBLE

JIGSAW JUMBLE

We’ve worked a few more jigsaw puzzles since I last wrote about them. Last time we were just starting the Springbok puzzle that had old gas station items. We finished it pretty fast. Then, we did another one that had what looked like an old general store, for fishing supplies. That was fun.

We also worked a couple of “White Mountain” brand puzzles, of 1,000 pieces each. One was called, “Old Candy Store”, and the other was, “Antique Toys”. They were both fun to do. It seems to take us a week or less to work them, from start to finish.

Next, we worked one that was 750 pieces. It was from, “Master Pieces”, “Once Upon a Shelf”, and called, “Treasured History”.

Here’s the photo of the finished puzzle, which we completed just today. There was one piece missing! I don’t know if we just accidentally lost it, or it wasn’t in the box, even though it was a brand new puzzle.

To me, this one was harder to work than the 1,000 piece puzzles. It could have been because the picture was so full of things that they just seemed a big jumble of colored puzzle pieces. I could pick out some of the detailed parts, but the background was so crazy looking. My husband is very good at finding patterns, and details, though, so between us we got it done. The box for this one was smaller, so the picture was smaller, and for me, was hard to see the things on there. I had to take lots of breaks, because of eye strain!

It was an interesting one, though, with all kinds of museum artifacts to find, sort of like a hidden object game. We finished it in 6 days.

Here’s a big jumble of puzzle pieces. At first it’s a mess, so I have to turn every piece over to the printed picture, then find the outside pieces. This takes awhile. Finally we’re ready to fit the pieces together. 🙂

We are without one to work on this evening! No! I know tomorrow we will go find another one to buy, and get started on.

JULY JIGSAW

Here it is July already! Hard to believe it, but it sure feels like it, since it’s been very hot so far this summer.

Continuing on with the working of the jigsaw puzzles, here’s what we’ve done, and what comes next.

This photo shows a nice picture of a Norman Rockwell painting. It looked interesting, and not too hard at only 500 pieces. However, after starting to work on it, we didn’t like it much. The cardboard pieces were tiny, and very thin and flimsy. Whenever we’d put two pieces together, they’d just come apart with the smallest nudge. In other words, they were not interlocking pieces like we were used to. I’m sad to say we did not want to continue with it, so put it away. I’d gotten it at a dollar store, along with a few more, and honestly, as they say, you get what you pay for at those places…not quality.

The next puzzle we tried, was much better. It was quality, in that the pieces were larger, and interlocked so they didn’t fall apart. It was 1,000 pieces, and the title of it was, “La Tienda General”. Looked like an old general store, with a featured Coca Cola machine. It took us quite awhile to finish this one, as it was hard, but we stuck to it and finished it a couple of days ago. Yay!

Before this one above, we’d worked the one called, “Cereal Boxes”. It was 1,000 pieces, too, and fun to work.

We now found ourselves without a puzzle to work on, so we made a trip to the store to find another one. We found two, actually, and started work on one of them a couple of days ago. It is a Springbok puzzle, which is a good brand. This first one is of a bunch of old gas station collectibles in what looks to be a store setting. We’ll see how it goes. 🙂

It’s funny the things we call the different pieces as we are working on the puzzles. Here’s a few… from top to bottom… Sqiggly ones, Spade or Shovel Foot, Outside and Corner Piece, Curvy One, Pointy One, Duck Faces, and Little Man. 🙂

JIGSAW – CEREAL & CIRCUS

Well, here I am again, giving an update on how the jigsaw puzzles are going. We finished another one just a few minutes ago! Of course we did a high-five, as we do, when we put the last piece in place. It’s gotten to be an every afternoon routine. I get my coffee, bring out the giant puzzle board we work on, and begin finding pieces. Then, the mister, gets up and comes over to see what he can find.

I’m always muttering, “I can’t find any pieces that fit anywhere.”

He’s always saying, “Just keep trying. It’ll all come together.”

And, you know what? It does. 🙂

So, when I last left a post about these puzzles, we were starting one called, “Cereal Boxes”. It was a 1,000 piece puzzle, and was pretty hard, but we finished it.

Next, we worked the one I got for a Mother’s Day gift from my daughter. It is called, “Magical World”, and is by Ciro Marchetti. It’s a very pretty scene of an old fashioned circus, with wild animals, and lots of balloons, and circus performers. This one has only 750 pieces, which I though might be a little easier. It wasn’t. At least this one fit on the board with room to spare. The 1,000 piece ones barely fit on there.We started it on June 1st, and just finished today. 🙂

I have a lot more puzzles to work. I haven’t picked out one, yet, but I will get started on the next one, probably tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it is going, soon! 🙂

MORE JIGSAW PUZZLE FUN

MORE JIGSAW PUZZLE FUN

I guess you can tell, I like doing jigsaw puzzles. Here are the last few I’ve done. 🙂

This one was fun. I’d say it took a medium amount of time to finish it. (the Mister helped with this one, too). It was just called “Made in America”, and showed people picking apples.

This one is one of a series of illustrations from the Saturday Evening Post magazine. This one is called, “Leading Ladies”. I thought it had lots of interesting pieces, but found out it was so hard to put together, I couldn’t finish it. It was 1,000 pieces, and they were each and every one the same size and shape! Nope, couldn’t do it. The photo shows as far as I got before giving it a pass.

This puzzle was fun to do, as it had pictures of all kinds of board games. It was 1,000 pieces, too, but they were bigger, and all different shapes. That made it easier, so didn’t take as long to finish. It is called, “Games We Played.”

This is the one I’m working on now. It is the same brand as the one above, and is called, “Tasty Treats”, with pictues of snacks! 🙂 I’ve just barely started it, so far.

JIGSAW PUZZLE UPDATE

Awhile back I posted a photo of a jigsaw puzzle I completed. Since then I’ve finished three more. They are fun to do, but takes several days for me to work them. Here’s the latest ones:

Sugar Skull

This one took the longest – it was pretty difficult! There is a piece missing. It was a brand new puzzle, though, so I may have just lost the piece somewhere.
