One Word Sunday -Fashion

For Debbie’s challenge:

Fashion

***

If you like fashions in clothes, you can find pretty much anything. Brand new at the stores, or older vintage clothes at the antique stores, or you can even sew your own clothes from patterns and fabrics of your choice.

As you can see from the photos, I’m a fan of mannequins.

I don’t know why, but they are just fun to see. There are so many kinds, and in so many stores, and I can’t resist taking a photo.

These are just a few of the ones I’ve got.

It could be I started liking them way back when, when I worked for a store and my job was to dress the mannequins for display. That was fun. I had to look at what sales were going on at the time, and dress the mannequins in the appropriate clothes to represent the sales. They changed all the time. It was fun to go get clothes off the rack (my choice) and pose them. 🙂

These photos just show various mannequins wearing athletic clothes, also blouses and dresses. Also a couple of ‘cow’ mannequins dressed in Texas type t shirts that was for souvenirs.

Here’s a photo of a couple of pattern packages I used to have, of making aprons. I made a lot of these to give as Christmas gifts one year.

Here is a mannequin I saw at the antique store dressed all in red. She had a big red hat, and a fancy red dress with long sleeves and floofy skirt, and she has an expensive necklace of rubies and pearls. Also she has a long red feather boa around her neck.

Simply Red Squares – Odd Mannequins

For Becky’s challenge:

Red Hints and Reflections

It’s time for the Square challenge again! This time the prompt is anything Red, and the only rule is the photo you use Must be Square! It’s a lot of fun to see what everyone comes up with. 🙂

Here’s a couple more funny mannequins I saw at that shop in the DFW airport. These are a longhorned steer and a cow, standing upright dressed  in jeans and T-shirts of red, white, and  blue and the words Texas, and Don’t Mess With Texas.

One Word Sunday – Above

For Debbie’s One Word Sunday

Above

This prompt goes two different directions, I think. One way is of me above, taking photos of things below, and then me below, taking pictures of things above me, over my head. Anyway, this is how I saw it. 🙂

***

Here’s some I’ve taken:

Here we are looking up at three pairs of mannequin legs dressed in leggings (blue/black/gray) in a store. There were no upper bodies!

Then here are the U.S. flag, a highway overpass, and two horse statues up high.

***

Now I was looking up at these …

Looking up inside the dome of the TX Capitol Building in Austin (there’s a star right in the middle, I guess for our motto – the Lone Star State?”

The next photos show:

  • looking up above at winter bare tree branches
  • Icicles hanging off roof edge
  • Airplane flying overhead
  • tall pole with power lines
  • Gretchen (our cat from years ago) up in the top of a cabinet looking down at us

From a different perspective I now show that I am above, taking photos of things below me…

If you couldn’t tell, I like taking photos of mannequins. I don’t know why, but it might have to do with the fact I had a job once, of dressing mannequins at Sears. I just think mannequins are odd, yet pretty cool!

I’ll call this grouping, “Strike a Pose”. Some of these have a different than usual pose, and quite a bit of attitude! 🙂

RANDOM POST # 7 – MANNEQUINS, STAMPS, & TUPPERWARE ?

Standard

RANDOM POST # 7 – MANNEQUINS, STAMPS, & TUPPERWARE ?

***

I’m continuing with my random posts about the jobs I’ve had in the past.

These three jobs I had were in about the same time period, in the mid 1970s. It was after we came back from Germany, and before we had any kids.

***

One fun job I had was at Sears Department Store. I think this may have been in Paris, TX. I got to dress the mannequins for display on the sales floor. I could pick out what clothes to use, but had to be mindful of what was being featured and advertised at the time. It was always changing from week to week. I wasn’t there for very long, because we moved to another city.

***

This next one was I believe in Greenville, TX. It was at the S & H Green Stamps Redemption Center. Do you remember those savings stamps? You’d be given a certain amount of them at the grocery store, according to how much money you had spent. The stamps in this case were green. You’d take them home to paste into a savings book, which were given out at the store, also. Later, when you saved a bunch, you could take the booklets to the redemption center to trade them in for cool items. They had a catalog, too, that you could look through, and decide if you had enough stamps for what you wanted.

I worked at the redemption center store, where all the merchandise was kept. There was a counter, a showroom, and a warehouse part. I worked at the counter, and count we did. A lot of that, as we had to flip through each booklet a person brought in, to make sure they had filled it out completely, and if they had enough to purchase the item they’d chosen. It was a fun job, and the people I worked with were fun. One funny thing was I learned what a ‘finger cot’ was. Strange name, but a very useful item. It was a little rubber thing to put on your thumb or finger, to make turning those booklet pages faster. You could get a good grip on the pages. 🙂

***

This next job was at a Tupperware distributor place. It was here in this town. I worked in the office, processing invoices/orders, that the Tupperware dealers would submit. Each Monday, if I remember, all the dealers in our district would come in for a sort of get-together/pep-rally thing. They’d have their meeting, refreshments, and also turn in their orders, and pick up orders from the last week. I used the calculator a lot, and also did typing. and filing. I got to type up the mimeographed templates, for the newsletter, and then go run them all off on the mimeograph machine. We didn’t at that time have a copy machine. It was old school, I guess you’d say. It was messy work with the inks and all, but I liked doing it. Later, I’d address all the envelopes with the adressograph machine. I worked at this place for quite a while, then was let go. They ‘said’ it was because they were going more automatic in the office, or something, but I know why. I was pregnant. Pretty sure that wouldn’t happen in this day and age!

Stay tuned for more random posts about the many jobs I’ve had in the past. 🙂

This group of odd-ball photos could be called the body part edition. 😉 I think mannequins and parts of them are funny. That is funny too, because I once had a job for awhile in which I dressed mannequins at Sears. I’d find some cool clothes to put on them, and pose them out in the store. That was a fun job.

Now, if I had a middle part, I could put them together in a freaky fashion Frankenstein mannequin! haha 🙂
