One Last One For 2025: Author August – Albert Camus & France Galle

Bee says:

This month I challenge you to share one of your favourite authors every day. As an additional challenge also share a song that connects in some way with that author.

As I mostly do, I’m featuring a favorite book instead of author. To me, favorite author means I get all their books and wish for more. If I like one book by an author, that doesn’t make them a favorite author, though the book might be.

This is the final day of Bee’s August Authors & Music challenge. Thanks so much for this fun month, Bee ! I’ve really enjoyed finding books and songs. ❤

Today I feature the author Poppy Z Brite and her books. I’ve read several, four of which I have this photo of. There is a running theme in these such as Vampires. She’s written many more (Exquisite Corpse, which I read) with different characters and set in and around New Orleans Louisiana, and they mostly concern characters in the food industry, such as chefs and restaurants. I think they are mystery/crime novels. I have not read those. Poppy Z Brite is now known as William J. Martin.

I write my fan fiction story based on the novel, “Lost Souls”. Where she went more with the vampire characters, in my fan fiction I concentrate on the human characters in the town.

Here is an AI summary of these books by the author…

Poppy Z. Brite’s books typically explore dark, taboo, and sensually charged themes, blending horror with elements of the supernatural, gothic atmosphere, and queer culture, often set in the decadent French Quarter of New Orleans or the fictional town of Missing Mile, NC. Her bibliography includes the vampire novel Lost Souls, the serial killer horror Exquisite Corpse, and the humorous, liquor-themed Liquor series, showcasing her distinctive prose and fearless approach to controversial subjects like necrophilia, cannibalism, and trauma.

Also she wrote a non fiction biography of musician Courtney Love (with her collaboration)  I rad this one, too, and it was really good.  … Courtney Love: The Real Story (biography, 1997)
