Scary Movie brings the original gang back together Scary Movie brings the original gang back together for a fast-paced return to the franchise that helped define parody comedy in the early 2000s.

With Marlon and Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall reunited, the film leans heavily into nostalgia while taking aim at everything from modern horror hits to internet culture. While the cast remains game and the energy never lets up, the barrage of references and rapid-fire gags often overwhelms the story, making the comedy feel more like an endless social media scroll than a tightly constructed spoof.

For fans of the original films, there's plenty of affection for the franchise on display, even if all that enthusiasm doesn't always translate into laughs.

Masters of the Universe embraces everything that m Masters of the Universe embraces everything that made He-Man a beloved pop culture phenomenon, delivering a colourful, action-packed adventure that proudly celebrates the franchise’s wonderfully absurd roots.

Director Travis Knight leans into the fantastical mythology, larger-than-life characters, and Saturday morning cartoon energy that defined the original series, while bringing Eternia to life on a blockbuster scale. Alongside the epic battles and sci-fi fantasy spectacle, the film also explores ideas of heroism and masculinity through Prince Adam’s journey to become He-Man.

By treating the source material’s inherent silliness as a strength rather than something to be fixed, Masters of the Universe captures the imagination, humour, heart, and adventure that fans have loved for decades.

John Carney returns to familiar territory with Pow John Carney returns to familiar territory with Power Ballad, a warm-hearted music dramedy about faded fame, creative ownership, and the songs that connect people across different stages of life.

When a chance meeting between a former rock frontman and an ex-boyband star leads to the creation of a hit song, questions of authorship, ambition, and second chances quickly follow. Anchored by strong chemistry between Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, the film explores who a song truly belongs to: the person who wrote it, the person who performs it, or the audience that gives it meaning.

While some later story turns feel rushed and less focused than its strongest early moments, Power Ballad remains an earnest and charming addition to Carney’s catalogue of music-driven crowd-pleasers.

Kane Parsons expands his viral horror phenomenon B Kane Parsons expands his viral horror phenomenon Backrooms into a feature-length psychological nightmare, bringing the unsettling liminal spaces that captivated millions of viewers to the big screen.

Set in an analog 1990s world, the film follows characters drawn into an endless maze of yellow-walled rooms where reality, memory, and identity begin to unravel. While its ambitious scope and deliberate ambiguity may not work for everyone, Backrooms succeeds in delivering the existential dread, disorientation, and interpretive mystery that made Parsons’ original series such a sensation.

Leaving its central questions unresolved, the film embraces uncertainty and invites audiences to confront the unsettling possibility that the Backrooms may be far more than just a place.

André Øvredal’s Passenger blends supernatural horr André Øvredal’s Passenger blends supernatural horror with the unease of life on the road, following a couple whose van-life escape spirals into terror after they encounter a parasitic demon tied to the unspoken rules of the highway.

As the Passenger relentlessly stalks them across isolated roads and dark campsites, the film balances relationship drama, creeping dread, and several standout horror set pieces. While the script’s mythology can feel thin at times, Øvredal’s direction and the performances from Lou Llobell and Jacob Scipio keep the tension grounded and effective throughout.

The Mandalorian and Grogu brings the beloved duo t The Mandalorian and Grogu brings the beloved duo to the big screen with bigger action, familiar charm, and plenty of fan-pleasing Star Wars adventure.

Director Jon Favreau keeps the story accessible for newcomers while delivering the bounty hunting missions, alien worlds, and dynamic between Din Djarin and Grogu that made the series such a phenomenon. While the film expands the scale of the show, it struggles to fully capture the cinematic weight and awe audiences expect from a theatrical Star Wars experience.

For longtime fans, though, it’s still an entertaining ride through the galaxy, even if it feels more like an extended episode than a true saga-defining event.

Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour Live in 3D offers B Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour Live in 3D offers Billie Eilish fans an intimate front-row concert experience, even if it falls short of fully reinventing the genre.

Co-directed by Eilish and James Cameron, the film captures the singer’s magnetic stage presence with immersive 3D camerawork that places audiences closer than ever to the performance. While the documentary elements only scratch the surface of Eilish’s artistry and personal insights, the concert footage itself highlights just how effortlessly she commands an arena with minimal spectacle and pure musical talent.

It may not revolutionize the concert film, but for devoted fans, this is an up-close experience unlike any other.

Mortal Kombat II finally delivers the brutal, lore Mortal Kombat II finally delivers the brutal, lore-heavy tournament movie fans have been waiting for, while making the franchise far more accessible to newcomers.

Shifting focus to iconic characters like Johnny Cage and Kitana, the sequel embraces the series’ gloriously campy fantasy roots with bone-crunching fights, over-the-top mythology, and plenty of crowd-pleasing fatalities. Director Simon McQuoid finds a much stronger balance between fan service and emotional stakes, giving the film more personality and a lot more fun.

While not a flawless victory, Mortal Kombat II levels up in nearly every way from its predecessor and proves this franchise may finally be finding its footing on the big screen.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 struts back onto the runwa The Devil Wears Prada 2 struts back onto the runway with confidence, delivering a sequel that leans into legacy, sharp industry commentary, and, above all, another commanding turn from Meryl Streep.

As Miranda Priestly navigates a rapidly evolving publishing world, and a major professional misstep, Andy re-enters the picture, setting the stage for a fresh yet familiar power dynamic. Packed with callbacks, fashion-forward flair, and timely reflections on media in the digital age, the film finds new relevance while embracing what made the original iconic.

With Streep effortlessly reclaiming her throne and the film hitting its stride in a glamorous, tension-filled second half, this sequel proves some icons, and some stories, never go out of style.

It’s hard to think of Toronto without the iconic landmark, but it’s also easy for the city to take it for granted. An ambitious and visually striking exploration of An ambitious and visually striking exploration of fame, creativity, and identity, Mother Mary sees David Lowery return with one of his most daring films yet.

Led by Anne Hathaway as the enigmatic pop icon Mother Mary and Michaela Coel as the designer she once betrayed, the film unfolds as a tense, dialogue-driven reckoning between two women bound by art, resentment, and shared history. As Mary seeks reinvention, their reunion becomes part confessional, part therapy session, and eventually something far more surreal.

Blending religious symbolism, psychological drama, and a late pivot into the supernatural, the film is as challenging as it is captivating. With original music from Jack Antonoff, Charli XCX, and FKA Twigs, alongside striking cinematography and costume design, Mother Mary creates an immersive portrait of an artist in crisis—even if its abstract storytelling won’t resonate with everyone.
