Ahead of the one year anniversary of the murder of Alexei Navalny, the European Parliament honoured him and what he stood for.
Dear colleagues,
This coming Sunday marks one year since the murder of Alexei Navalny after years of torture and imprisonment in Russia.
Alexei Navalny was many things. He was a Sakharov Laureate. He was an outspoken politician. And a beacon of hope for many across Russia and around the world. He spent his life fighting corruption and standing up for what he believed in.
His enemies thought that they could silence his voice. They were wrong. It continues to inspire and it continues to galvanise people across the world.
In this House, just days after his murder, we welcomed his brave wife Yulia Navalnaya. Yulia called on all of us to continue the fight for freedom and justice. This House remembers him and what he stood for.
