A Little Escape

Every so often, when the normal becomes mundane, I decide that a little escape is needed and search for the unknown. Today happened to be one of those mundane days, where I needed something new and fresh. I pulled out my travel guide and read about various locations. I had to make a decision on where I wanted to visit and for what purpose. Was it to see something new, meet new people, do some shopping, or to relax. Night Sailing

Every once in awhile, my husband and I get the chance to spend time together without our three children. While these moments are rare, they require an abundance of planning and obtaining childcare (especially during a pandemic). We recently took a risk in our night out and went sailing with a friend, while their oldest son looked after our youngest two. The sky was gorgeous, the breeze cool, and the water calm.

A Walk in the Park

There is something about being able to travel outside your home and venture into the park. Surrounding yourself with the sounds of singing birds, chattering squirrels, and the wind rustling the leaves. There is no better feeling than taking a deep breath and letting the day’s worries drift away. In the park, taking the less frequented path is where I enjoy spending a few hours with my family.

Night Out

It was determined that a night out was in order. Being cooped up in a house with the same people, while you love them, can lead to madness. A location was decided upon and each individual was assigned an item to bring for dinner. Excitement filled the air as we gathered in the backyard of our closest friend. Kids ran laps and adults chatted and laughed as they shared the ups and downs of social distancing. No one paid attention to the lowering sun, signalling the end of another day. Slowly lights were turned on so we could see each other better. It was agreed that in a few weeks time we would do another night out.

While enjoying the outdoor concert, the attention of one individual was stolen by a noise away from the stage. Curiosity over came her as she wandered the venue seeking the source of the wailing. Finding nothing she made her way back towards the concert only to stumble upon a strange bird perched upon a stump. She wondered if this was the source of the noise, but shook her head slowly attempting to push the thought from her mind; for there was no way the wood carving could speak… yet the strange bird seemed to have a twinkle in its’ eye as if it could read her thoughts.

At Worlds End

When the time comes for nature to reclaim the land, what will your story be. Will it be one of great accomplishments or will it be one filled with regrets and sorrow? Will your story be told by others or will it be forgotten like a whisper told to the wind? Will you be the one to live on at the worlds end, or will you become a distant memory? We decide the direction will take and how our lives will be seen at the end of our time. For some they make the most of their lives, while others take each day as they come never knowing and never expecting. The Country Girl

My grandma use to say “Born a country girl, always a country girl.” I never really knew what she meant growing up and found it funny that she would make this comment every time she came over and found me sitting outside playing. As time past we eventually moved away from the farm and the country into a little community. Now that I find myself living in a large city and the constant noise of something in the back ground and sirens off in the distance, I find myself thinking back to her little statement often… longing to be back in the quiet country.

The Sound of Gulls

Many find my fascinations rather odd, and I have quite a few fascinations. The one most people find strange is my love for sea gulls. There is this calming sensation I feel when I hear the sea gull sing. I don’t know what it is, but it calls to me; it makes me stop and smile. Ironically, I did not grow up near the ocean or large lakes, and now I live beside a smaller lake as an adult. I have always been fascinated by the sea gull. Perhaps in a past life I lived near water where sea gulls could be found and meant something great, rather then the beach pest everyone calls them to. I honestly do not mind the sea gulls and will find it lonely when I do not find them where I expect them to.

The Night Changes You

I cannot put my finger on it, nor can I completely explain it, but in some way the night changes you. Perhaps it is best explained as Bruce Wayne and Batman. By day Mr Wayne is exception business man, focused on his company and growing his business. By night he is the Batman, set on riding the streets of crime and making his city great again. Like Mr Wayne, I to have present differently during the day then I do during the night. During the night, I share a little wild side. One that often stays hidden and out of sight. One that longs to make its appearance more often, yet she remains locked away from the world; except on rare occasions.

There is always one space in the house that women are not invited to venture into, unless it is to bring food and drink (preferably beer or some other manly beverage). A recent redesign of my lovely home resulted in an entire building becoming this such place, the garage. Cars of all shapes of decay reside on the main floor, with hopes of soon seeing the gentle loving repairs that much overdo take place. While above, the man cave is locked away from the unknowing peering eyes of the female species. Today though, I ventured up those stairs in search of an item that I knew I had purchased for the living. Surrounded by shades of grey and black, stood my new red vase.
