My Grandmother's Home1

My grandmother is a proud woman. She rarely complains or asks for help; even while caring for my ailing grandfather, she never stopped to admit it might be to much for her to handle on her own. After my grandfather was moved into long term care, she slowly transformed their little home to her personal tastes with the majority of his former presence removed. A few pictured adorned their walls of the pair together, albums filled to the brim were strewn about the tiny space. Eventually though the daunting task of cleaning the little home would come about, as my grandmother was moved into assisted living. Her space growing smaller and only a few treasured belonging being able to move with her. Slowly she marked the belongs that she would take and the rest was divided between the family members or sold to provide for her care. My grandmothers home is where memories were made and shared and will forever be part of who I am today.

Small Country House1

Nestled in the country side, stood tall a little house; filled with great character and many stories to tell. Every day around the same time, the neighbours would see a flock of crows flying overhead singling that the home owner was cooking and putting the refuse outside in their garden. Not one of the neighbours could tell you much about the home owner, just a few snippets of information was really known. The small house had been there for as long as anyone could tell, and they all said the same thing that it could use some love and improvements but no one was brave enough to suggest this. The home owner carried out the same routines, tending to their small garden and doing chores around the home. No one could tell if they ever left the property, but they knew once a week a small car would arrive at the same time and during these little visits, you could hear laughter and the tiny voices of children would drift through the wind.

The Forgotten Corner

There are times in my life when I close out the world to absorb the information overload I have received. Generally each day is filled with information coming in and out, because I choose for this to happen in my daily life. This information comes in the form of knowledge through the pursuit of learning; which I find relaxing. Then there are days where the information I gain, hangs in the air like a dark cloud weighing on my thoughts. This information causes my heart to swell with pain and discomfort and I need to find a place where I can dissect the information and paste it all back together filling in holes and creating the broader picture. During these times, my emotions are heightened and often uncontrollable. I need to find that quiet place to be alone within myself as I work out what direction I will be taking as I move forward with this uncomfortable information. This week has been filled with this sort of information, the type of information where I grow sad and need to be alone to work through it. Fortunately I found the perfect spot in a corner tucked away from the sight of others, where I could find inner peace and be forgotten about for a couple hours.

Forest Cottage1

Nestled in the forest dwells a little cottage. Hidden away from the rest of society the painter finds peace in the solitude and inspiration in her surroundings. Each day she wakes and carries out the same routines before embarking into the forest in search of an animal or cluster of foliage to paint. Deadlines come and go and she had never missed one yet. Each theme differed slightly from the previous one but could always be found within her surrounding. The forest cottage was the perfect place for a painter who specialized in nature.

There is this small space that I call my own. A place where I venture off to when I need to decompress and be alone and surrounded by quiet. It is my own space; a space that I carefully decorated with items that represent little aspects of myself and personality. In this space, you will find many things, both living and formerly living and crafted into furniture to fill my small space. Please do not wake the cat, he is not pleasant when woken before he is ready. In my room is where you will find me after a difficult day or in need of some quiet time to myself.

Sorting the Mail

I am a creature of habit and I am not sure how many people realize it. I like things to be the same every day, with the same routines taking place. I am like this even on the weekends, with a few exceptions that I do not engage in like going to work. Every Sunday, I walk down to the mailbox and bring it home to sort. I put each item in a pile and toss the flyers and random junk letters you receive. I grab a nice warm tea and head out to the back room to read over the letters and various bills. I am a creature of habit.

Overall Opinion:

I love this dress! After a few body modifications, I got the right size to fit me with out having odd gaps. It is perfect for work or play. I personally chose to wear it around the house while I tended to my pets, plants, and enjoyed some alone time while I did work from home.
