The Future Holds

The future is unknown. It is yet to be written. After a year of great upheaval, brought on by a mismanaged pandemic, I do not know what the future holds. Perhaps the decrepit woman in her ragged tent has the answers. The voices floating through the air suggest that she is the best they have have spoken to. It seems she knows things about people that their closest friends do not even know. The skeptic in me believes that not even she knows what the future holds.

Come Inside

A month ago, restrictions were lifted on the number of people you could have within your social bubble. While my family accepted the increase and invited our closest friends over, we did not allow them within the house and they did the same when we went over there. Today, social distancing rules change, yet again, to allow people inside of restaurants – not just patios. It has been a topic of discussion on if we will allow people into our homes as rules relax. While some are not allowing visitors into their homes, perhaps our social bubble will be allowed to come inside.

Contemplation

Often, I sit alone and become lost in my thoughts. I wonder about those I have come into contact with in SL and how they are doing. I think about those who have come into my life and hold a deep-rooted place within my heart. I contemplate those who I have let move on, yet grateful that they still remain within my life – while others are no longer there and a hole has been left in their place. I contemplate what my SL will look like, what I will do, and where I will go. I long for family and friends – some old and some new.

I struggle daily with wanting to talk to people, but, also with not wanting to bother them. I spend hours in deep contemplation on if I should reach out and say hello or if I should leave them alone. While I long to talk to others, the idea of bothering them takes over. I wonder how people are doing, what they have been up to, and if we could spend time together. Yet, fear and worry take over and I revert back inside myself, back into deep contemplation. Those closest to me will, in their time, reach out because they understand and know how I do not like to interfere with what they are currently doing.

Often, I sit alone and contemplate my downfalls, my desire to make others happy while sacrificing myself, and the time I want to spend with them. I contemplate if I need to change my views and force myself on others – but that is not who I am, not in SL and not in RL. So alone I will sit in deep contemplation, with a dog nipping my toes and cats running amuck.

Night Sailing

Every once in awhile, my husband and I get the chance to spend time together without our three children. While these moments are rare, they require an abundance of planning and obtaining childcare (especially during a pandemic). We recently took a risk in our night out and went sailing with a friend, while their oldest son looked after our youngest two. The sky was gorgeous, the breeze cool, and the water calm.

A Walk in the Park

There is something about being able to travel outside your home and venture into the park. Surrounding yourself with the sounds of singing birds, chattering squirrels, and the wind rustling the leaves. There is no better feeling than taking a deep breath and letting the day’s worries drift away. In the park, taking the less frequented path is where I enjoy spending a few hours with my family.

What started on September 3, 2019, came to an end on June 26, 2020. It was a year like no others, filled with lots of highs and lows. It was a year, not how I had pictured nor planned. It was a year filled with troubles, mixed emotions, job action, and moving away from the traditional into the unfamiliar. I learned more about my craft this year and areas where I need to engage in professional development. With the difficulties there were rewards. While I am grateful that it is over, I will miss the young minds that entered my learning space. But this vacation is much needed after this interesting school year.

Night Out

It was determined that a night out was in order. Being cooped up in a house with the same people, while you love them, can lead to madness. A location was decided upon and each individual was assigned an item to bring for dinner. Excitement filled the air as we gathered in the backyard of our closest friend. Kids ran laps and adults chatted and laughed as they shared the ups and downs of social distancing. No one paid attention to the lowering sun, signalling the end of another day. Slowly lights were turned on so we could see each other better. It was agreed that in a few weeks time we would do another night out.

Just One Wish

My grandfather would pass on folklore whenever I would take the time to listen. One time, he told me that a wishing well would grant any spoken wish. I would look up at him with curiosity and ask to hear more. He would smile down at me and tell me that water was the home to deities or that the gods had placed them there as a gift. This would bring up even more questions. I can still hear his laughter when think of these memories. He would look at me, ruffle my hair and state “Did you know, curiosity killed the cat?” He would then teach me about how water was often scarce in the early days and that it is the source of life.

Today, I stumbled upon a well and remembered all that my grandfather had told me. I stood for a bit, filled with the memories of sitting with him, haring his folklore and tales. And just for a moment, I toyed with the idea that if I could have just one wish, spoken out loud, it would be more time with my grandfather.

A Little Trip

Instead of decorating my new home, I decided that I needed to get out and visit the world. I wanted to see a familiar place, but, I also wanted to find new things to see. After some deliberation, I decided on the familiar and made my way over to Maison de L’amitie. It was just what I needed to feel myself once more, out of the house, surrounded by the familiar.

For far to long, I have been cooped up in my home because the world has had to practice social distancing. The change in normal every day routine has taken its toll. While I am a well adapted introvert, I did enjoy leaving my home to carry out my job while enjoying the safety of my home at night.

Strange Bird

While enjoying the outdoor concert, the attention of one individual was stolen by a noise away from the stage. Curiosity over came her as she wandered the venue seeking the source of the wailing. Finding nothing she made her way back towards the concert only to stumble upon a strange bird perched upon a stump. She wondered if this was the source of the noise, but shook her head slowly attempting to push the thought from her mind; for there was no way the wood carving could speak… yet the strange bird seemed to have a twinkle in its’ eye as if it could read her thoughts.
