Every time you feel those tears threatening to brim over but swallow them down instead, you abandon yourself.

Every time you say that you’re ok when somebody hurts you, even unintentionally, you abandon yourself.

Every time you don’t eat when you are hungry, because you are too busy getting your to-do-list done, you abandon yourself.

Every time you don’t go to sleep even though you are exhausted, because you still have work to do, you abandon yourself.

Every time you don’t ask for what you need from somebody close, you abandon yourself.

Every time you put someone else’s needs before your own greater needs, you abandon yourself.

Every time you don’t ask for help when you need it, you abandon yourself.

If you had a small child to look after, would you expect them to not cry when they have been hurt, not sleep when they are tired or eat when they are hungry? Of course not! But then why are expecting it of yourself? Most, if not all of these, are very basic human needs.

Don’t abandon your inner child- show it the same love and care you would show it any other child!
