while lying in bed doing my once over of facebook and my google reader before going to sleep i came across this darling DIY project. dear lizzy is only one of the most talented woman in the world... seriously i don't think there is anything she can't create! if you don't follow her hurry up and jump on the bandwagon... you wont regret it!!
i started with just an old layers basic that i never wear. i just feel like its too much plain cream...
i found a cami that i bought for like pennies that i never wear because it's like 3 sizes too big. if you need to know one thing about me, its that i can't pass up a good deal! even if it is 4ft bright yellow geometric shaped lamp i spotted driving past a garage sale... 2 for $10 whattttt. i'll post those shortly.
step 1: i cut the tank down the front center in about 1/2 - 3/4 inch strips. i used about 13 strips. if a strip is too short you can always add another one on the end.
step 2: i folded and folded and bunched and gather until i like the flow then taped the ruffles down. dear lizzie is a little more experienced than i and pin them and folded while she sewed but i found taping them with scotch tape was easier for a true beginner.
don't think too much about the ruffling.. this style and look is forgiving and shouldn't be "perfect".
step 3: after taping the ruffle i sewed down the center of the ruffle. I had my tension set to 2.5 and my stitch width set to 2.5 with a straight stitch.
tip: backstitch when you start sewing a ruffled strip and backstitch when you finish a strip.
thats it folks!!! too easy to be true?? well its not! shelly and i both got a shirt done in just under 2 hours while wrestling 2 6 month olds, chasing 2 2 year olds and entertaining one active, dragon impersonating, 2 year old little girl torturing 4 year old.
if we could do it.... you can do it!
