Wonderful Event

We had a wonderful event that occurred last week. Jayden decided to get baptized. The ceremony was beautiful and a lot of friends and family showed up to support her. She was so excited about this day that when we went to wake her up that morning she woke up with a huge grin on her face and said "I'm getting baptized today." As parents that kind of stuff makes it all worth it.

Perfect Season

Jacob decided that he wanted to start playing Lacrosse this year so we signed him up for the spring season. What a great sport this is. We were very surprised at how much fun it is to watch and how exciting the game is. Jake really enjoyed his first season and is looking forward to the fall season that starts in August. Jake had some great coaches and the reason Jake is holding up a number one sign is because his team went undefeated.

Calf Creek

If you have never heard of Calf Creek before that's OK, it is a little camp site in the Grand Stair Case-Escalante National Park in Southern Utah. Every year for Easter we go camping with a group of friends. This year was no exception, we had 5 other families that went camping. I will list them by their walkie talkie call signs to conceal their true identities. (tighty whities, flying J's, Jabba the Hut, the three amigas, oil barrons, and the Earnhardts)

Our camping weekend started out with 5 families rolling into this small campsite and taking over the place, it was first come first serve no reservations allowed. We could only find 2 campsites that were close together so we used them, and maxed them out. When I say maxed out I mean over loaded. I'm sure we broke some OSHA regulations with the number of people we had in those two camp sites. After setting up camp we ate dinner and hit the sack. The next day we went on an awesome hike called Spooky Gulch and Picaboo Gulch

This was such a cool hike. It was a really narrow slot canyon that was about 3/4 of a mile long. Some spots were really snug, but the rock formations were so awesome. The kids had a great time and had no trouble fitting through the slot.
This hike took us all day, but it was well worth it.
The next days activities included shooting and hiking. Yes I said shooting, all you tree hugger - PETA whackos out there. We happen to be in an area of the country where recreational shooting is allowed. All of the guys brought there shotguns, we had a clay launcher and 800 rounds of ammo. What could go wrong?
This was a lot of fun, especially from the cheering section that was watching from behind us. Yes it was our families, but the whoopin and holarin was fun to hear. After the shooting was over and we all had soar shoulders it was time to go on another hike. This hike was to the upper falls of calf creek. This also was a fun hike and had it not been chilly when we got there we all would have jumped in the pool at the bottom of the falls. As it was, there were only a few brave souls that jumped in the water and became instant popsicles. After the hike we all enjoyed a really good dutch oven dinner and then had a marsh mellow roasting contest. I wont say who won, but he is wearing a green shirt in the above pictures (Oh Ya) The next day we woke up to a little bit of rain, but then the sun came out so we packed up camp while the Easter Bunny hid some eggs.
The kids really enjoy this Easter Egg hunt. There are so many good hiding spots and the Easter Bunny does a great job hiding the eggs. Good job Easter Bunny. The eggs are high and low so that all age ranges get challenged. After all the eggs were collected, each childs bounty compared , and much chocolate consumed it was time to head home. This was such a fun trip. We had a great time and are looking forward to next years Easter adventure.

Viva La Mexico

Julie and I have never been to Mexico before and when some friends asked us if we would like to go with them we decided it was time to have a mom and dad vacation. We went to Cancun for a week and had a great time. I have always wanted to go see the Mayan ruins in Mexico and this was our chance. We went to visit Tulum, Coba, and the most famous ruin Chiza Niza. We also swam with dolphins, snorkeled with turtles and saw lots of really bright colored fish around the reefs. We visited a wonderful small island called Isla Mojares, near Cancun, and rented motor scooters so we could tour the island. We saw lots of neat beaches but were able to stop and talk with alot of the locals and see how Yucatan Mexicans really live. Julie had a great time speaking spanish to the locals and said that those years of high school spanish really paid off. We decided to stay on the island and eat dinner at a resteraunt that was right on the beach as the sun went down. This is where the above picture was taken.

Later in the week we went to a place called Xcaret and they had this wonderful show that I video taped a little of. The show consisted of the history of the Mayans, being concured by Cortez, and then traditional song and dance from each region of Mexico. We ate dinner while watching the show and really enjoyed it. We had an awesome time with our friends and enjoyed seeing the Yucatan part of Mexico.
