Weekend w/ Blake

This weekend Kurt is at a major nerd-fest known as Emerald-con. It's just Blake and mom! This is going to sound "different" to many people, but I am a little nervous. I am not alone with my son much at all, if ever. I work full-time. Kurt works full-time as well, but 4 days a week. He has Blake to himself every Monday. He also gets home on average at 3 in the afternoon; I get home between 5-6. Blake goes to bed at about 7. On the weekends it's Kurt and I with our little man. I know what Blake does with my mom or Mysha is watching him. I know what his day will look like, I am just curious to see how we do when it's just the two of us. It is only for a few days, but I wonder if I were to be a stay-at-home mom, if I could do it. I like being busy and I like being lazy. If I have something to keep me busy (say, 24 students), I like it. However, if there isn't anything I have to do, I just get lazy and boring. I probably won't get bored this weekend because, quite frankly I need a break. I'm tired. But, to stay home all of the time; what if I just get lazy and bored. Many of my friends are stay-at-home mom's and are crazy busy. They make sure to stay busy. What happens if I make sure to stay lazy?! I need to get to bed so I am well rested tomorrow to play with my Buddy. I can't get a nap in tomorrow; daddy's not here to trade wake/nap times with!

Well... Hello There

It's been... Well, years, since I've been on here. Wow!

Lately I've been feeling the need to start being better at record keeping and keeping a journal. It could have something to do with my YW lesson coming up in June on the importance of keeping records. It could also have something to do with the fact that Kurt and I are PARENTS!

We have the sweetest little boy. He is SUCH a GOOD BABY (abnormally, freakishly so!). Blake has been a HUGE blessing in our lives. I was so worried about becoming a mother, but I just love him so much!

Anyway, I need to relearn this blogging stuff. Hopefully I'll see you soon!

Two Shoes and New Moon

Saturdays are so great! I am sitting in my living room catching up with the world online, watching the history channel, and wearing TWO SHOES! Yep! I was cleared by my surgeon on Monday to start wearing regular sneakers on my left foot for about two hours a day. The last time I wore two shoes was in JUNE!! Holy cow. It is so amazing how we can take simple things, like wearing a shoe on each foot, for granted. I am so grateful that I can walk with a walking boot and now training my foot to walk in shoes! How great is life?!?

So, I don't consider myself to be a big Twilight fan. Yes, I've read and own the four books. I have the first movie. But, I'm not 'obsessed'. I don't go through websites looking for Twilight info or go to Twilight parties or take trips to Forks, Washington where the book takes place. However, a friend from work was seriously hooked-up. Someone rented out a theater (who does that?!) to show a premiere showing of New Moon on Thursday at 5. Well, how fun is that? I had to go. There were a bunch of my awesome coworkers there too. It was fun! Then, I went to dinner and New Moon again on Friday night with a huge group of girls from my neighborhood/ward. I met some really great people and got to know some even better. It was a great night. I liked the movie the second time better. I also liked this movie better than the first. Fewer awkward, cheesy parts. I will not lie, the guy who played Jacob is freakishly buff. A little much for my liking but, wow, I admire the dedication it would take to get a body like that.

Manic Monday

Seriously!! What a crazy Monday. Assemblies, changed lunch times, wreaked havoc on a class of 24 kids and their teacher than can't walk. Later that evening a phone call to a parent to express concern about their child's progress polished off the day.

Why do some parents love to communicate with teachers and others don't. I call to express concern about one child and the mom passes me off to the dad who tells me how the homework is too hard. Even his third grader couldn't do it (I teach second grade). Well since I don't prepare homework for the grade and everything is in the state core curriculum (that I unfortunately don't have any say in) I'm so glad the parent is upset with me. Ugh. Sorry for caring about your child! I should just let her fall through the cracks. It really would be so much easier for me... much less paperwork.

But I'm not the kind of teacher. I will send home documentation of my concerns and butter it up with telling them everything they are doing is helping and that she is lucky to have such caring parents. Which she is; but can't I help too?

I will continue to pull this student into small groups and one-on-one learning. I will continue to progress monitor and try to help this child learn as much as she can this year. I will refer this child to be tested if it is needed.

Just don't tell her dad.

One other thing. My hubby is the best. I got home from work, he had me lay down, put my feet up on a Love Sac with bags of ice. He then brought me dinner. Love that Kurt!!

A Year Later

Well, it has been more than a year since I've last blogged. Yep, a YEAR! But I've just made a decision. I need to blog. It will be therapy for me and entertainment for you. It's a win-win.

I have decided that while this is "The Liechty Family" blog, I'm the only one who writes on this. I also have so many stories from work that are so worthy of being shared. I owe it to society to share how adorable "my kids" are.

A few things have been rumbling through my head today. I've lost my voice. I went back to work last Wednesday after not being able to walk since June. After three days I started feeling sick, a week later, I've completely lost my voice. Since I am unable to speak, everything I'm thinking about keeps running over and over in my head.

1) I love my job. I love teaching. I don't love unreliable co-workers or politics in the school and district. I love the kids I get to teach. I do not love the germs they carry around. Seriously three days at work (one a short day) and I get a head cold, that moves to my chest, and now I have no voice.

2) Kurt and I have been married for a year. For both of us, this marriage is 1,oo0% better than our first marriages. We are both older, we both have a lot of experience with marriage, and we both know what it's like to be living in a living hell.

3)Bones is one of the coolest shows ever.

4) For some time now, I've wanted to write a book. I don't know if it will be a children's book, a young adult novel, or a non-fiction text.

5) Have you noticed that everyone is a photographer lately? Some are great, others are good, most are not. It's like a new trend for stay at home moms to become photographers. Anyone else notice this??

THE DAY FINALLY ARRIVED!!!

Well, we've been married for a little over a week now!! It was so crazy right before the wedding. I ended up turning over a lot of the details to my mom... She did a great job and the day was beautiful!! The sealing was so great. The sealer talked a lot about the blessings that come from being sealed in the temple and living worthy of those blessings. The luncheon was awesome. We were with family and friends, eating good food. We had friends that we've had since jr. high (and I had one that was there that I've been friends with since elementary!!) and friends we've made recently. It was also so great, because we both get along with each others friends!! It was a fantastic day and I will post pictures very soon!! My two little nieces and nephew should be models- they are so dang cute!!!
We took off to Park City for the weekend. It was a lot of fun. Nice to have some 'down time' after all the crazy that was my life for so many weeks. We staying in his parents time-share... it was really, really nice! Looking forward to family trips to the time-share :)
October 11th, we are going to take off on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera. We are both super excited to get away together and to go on a cruise. Neither one of us have ever been on a cruise- so this will be a first for both of us. Kurt is also super excited to use his Spanish (and to have some cheap fish tacos from a little street taco stand- I may die). Anyway, I'll post wedding day pictures soon and maybe even update my blog more often than every two months! Oh my!!
