Football Follies 2025: Bowl week 3 (Quarterfinals occupy the vibe)

Playoffs vs. Bowls Smackdown.

[Note:  Assembling the full Follies needs a little more time, so the completed portion is loaded below, and will be filled in when the rest is finalized.  – J.E.]

[Update:  Please see the minimal, essentials-only update to the section for the bowl-bowls of 31 December.  That’s all the much that’s going to happen before the 1st.  Iran’s kind of erupting at the moment.  It’s always something, right?  Fill-ins to come for the 2 January 2026 bowl day, when Navy represents us in the Liberty Bowl.  Happy New Year! – J.E.]

[Update 2:  The 2 January lineup makes its appearance in its allotted slot below, though not with the level of rich, intriguing detail we previously intended.   It became apparent that it just wasn’t going to happen.  We know everyone must be watching Navy right now anyway.  At any rate, the completeness has reached its peak for week 3.  Up next will be the FCS and Div III finals and the FBS semifinals in the coming week. – J.E.]

Let’s face it, nobody cares whether the Rose Bowl is the Granddaddy of them all now.  It’s not about the iconic Rose Bowl anymore.  It’s now about the CFPB+/-WD playoff game, and after the Rose and three other bowls there’ll be three games still left to play to get us to a CFP champion.  Those games won’t be bowls either, even though two of them wear bowl names.  They’ll be playoff semifinals, and a final.

BO-ring.

Christmas 2025

Boundless promise.

I’m taking the opportunity at the outset to wish our Jewish friends a belated Happy Hanukkah.  I did better at getting a greeting up at social media this year.

Football Follies 2025: Bowl week 2 (Booger goes long)

The scene is set for the CFP quarterfinals as the bowl season’s most packed week of the year opens.

Bowl week 2 always sparks the longest Follies article of the year, so strap in.  We may lose gravity at some point.

The all-new view of the bracket.

Oooh…ahhhh. The bracket as set for the quarterfinals, which start on 31 Dec 2025. Graphic credit ESPN.

Football Follies 2025: Bowl week 1 (Boogers get to scratching)

Burying the lead (CFP quarterfinals! Come and get ’em!) in Booger Bowls.

We note for completeness that Navy won The Game 17-16.  Our sentiments are nicely expressed by the feature image.  Thankin you, Army, for a good game.  Navy is now ranked #25 in the CFPB+/-WD.

We also offer our heartiest congratulations to Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza, winner of this year’s Heisman Trophy.  What a terrific year he and his team have had – well done!  Indiana, of course, ended the season as the Big 10 champion and ranked #1 in the FBS.  The Hoosiers have a first-round playoffs bye, and will play the winner of the Alabama-Oklahoma game.

Football Follies 2025: NCAA week 16 – The Game; Bowls go pfftt

Army, Navy hit the big 250 as their football rivalry goes for 126. Other stuff also happens.

This just in. Criminal charges and mayhem erupt in the case of ex-Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore.  We can’t even.  Sorry.

Naturally, speaking of the above, the Story didn’t remain with Indiana’s victory over Ohio State for very long.  And we’re not talking about Duke beating Virginia.  We’re talking about FBS Power-4 teams paying good money in fines to opt out of post-season bowls.

We’ll focus on The Game after dealing with The Mess. Continue reading “Football Follies 2025: NCAA week 16 – The Game; Bowls go pfftt”
