Exploring Southern Colorado- Mesa Verde

We continued even further south to Mesa Verde National Park to look at the cliff dwellings. I knew nothing about these people or how they lived so it turned into a very educational and interesting trip. The kids were equally as interested which made it fun to do together.

We took a tour of the more popular houses which required climbing to scary heights. The kids absolutely loved it. I was a bit nervous.

Balcony House

They are called cliff dwellings because they are literally on a cliff.

Cliff Palace.

Cliff Palace is the largest dwelling in the park.

The kids were completely engaged in the tour and even answered questions.

The kids had such a great time and are finally old enough to be independent and keep up. This trip definitely solidified more options are opening up to our maturing family. Good times ahead!

Exploring Southern Colorado- Ouray and Telluride

We decided to spend a couple weekends exploring Colorado this summer. So, we headed south to a mountain town we heard people rave about called Ouray. It lived up to the hype.

Its nickname is the Switzerland of America and I'd say that is accurate. It is the cutest, little old mining town nestled in a tight canyon with tall, steep mountains in all directions. Waterfalls cascade down these mountains in every view. There is a huge hot springs there as well. We had a fun day hiking and exploring and the kids did great.

Box Canyon Falls was very unique in that it was a huge waterfall that carved itself through a mountain. It was incredibly powerful.

The views were breath taking.

We will definitely be back.

Just on the other side of the mountain is Telluride. However, we had to drive around the mountain, which took about an hour. We spent a fun afternoon riding the gondola over the mountain and checking out the popular ski town.

Next stop Mesa Verde...
