new clothes for Bug

Well this is the last time I try and take pictures right before the sky goes black. It resulted in a grumpy child, bad lighting and blurry pictures. oh well. Lately I have been sewing most of the fabric stash that I have. It makes me happy when things turn out how I picture them.

the Top is the Bimaa pattern, and the skirt is a pattern I drafted almost a month ago but never let Bug wear it because I couldn't think of a top to go with it.

one top two looks, totally love them!

The Peplum Top

I have a very skinny child! I mean she is 5 and can still wear 3t shorts comfortably and I am pretty sure she can squeeze her butt into 24mth shorts as well. Like I said... SKINNY!

So with that being said I have been trying to get this specific dress pattern to fit her and I was on try three, I mean the dresses turned out cute and I hope one day she will be able to have wide enough shoulders to fill them but hey I want her to be able to wear the thing now. So I adapted it fabric bar here and there pull in seam here.. you know the drill. As I was staring at this pattern I created it hit me. I have adjusted this pattern so much I may as well take it to a different level.  So I decided to make a peplum top for Bug. At first she wasn't very excited because she doesn't like yellow.  but after I got it on her she was saying "mommy we need to keep this we can't sell it" OK child we will keep it. ;)

Miss Tinkerbell

Miss I currently have an opinion about everything wouldn't budge from the back porch when I asked her if she wanted some picture sin her costume. Then after posing with out me taking pictures she said she was done so I had to ask her if we could take 4 pictures since that is how old she was. Yeah little turkey can count and I took a few more over 4 and she proceeded to tell me that "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit" I'm sure I had a shocked look on my face then I agreed and we went inside.

It was really nice out yesterday for trick or treating. Which I am very happy for because I had purchased tights for Bugs to wear with her costume to keep her legs warm and the have officially disappeared. I have no clue where they are. Kinda hoping they will show up soon.

Cat Eyes and Strawberries

It has been since before Christmas that I attempted to draft any clothing patterns. Everything I want to make for Bug is in a nice little notebook. Ok that was a big fat lie, everything I want to make for Bug is actually on a gillion pieces of paper strewn about my entire house. Once I get an idea I pretty much just grab anything and jot it down. I have a mountain of fabric and absolutely NO motivation. I tried to make a deadline for myself a few months back and as I was in the Hospital recovering MLH looks at the calendar on his phone and asks "so did you get that jacket pattern drafted it's due today" Very funny, MLH... Very funny.

2 or 3 weeks ago I just decided that I needed to get it done. I love making Bug clothes and it's really fun to see how she reacts when I put them on her. MLH and I were shopping this past Saturday and Bug was wearing a dress I had made her last year. (it was too big for her but I was having issues cutting the fabric down to size. not technical ones, emotional ones. I get attached to fabric way to easy,) It only has one shoulder and MLH kept mentioning people Looking at Bug and commenting on her outfit. Ok totally ego booster for me, but it was nice to hear. For the next few days I bucketed down and just got the dang thing, luckily I drafted the pattern a few weeks back at work, then had to adjust it. Fun fun . Finally it was done, only had to seam rip once and if I would have gone with my first thought I would not have had to seam rip any of it... stupid me.

I think I need to take a photo of the entire thing, the bottom of the shirt is finished off with the strawberry fabric that is the same as the sleeves. I have one more of these shirts in a 4t if anyone is interested in it. nothing too special just jersey knit.  And if you are wondering about the CatEyes thats what the glasses are called. it was one of those moments at 4 in the morning when I thought, how cute would it be to get Bug a pair of retro glasses. went to the computer. 4 bucks and 2 days later I got these babies. love them!

Dress for Bug

A few weeks back we took family photos. But unfortunately it was so cold she had to wear a sweater and also a jacket.
I made her this dress an hour before we had to head out the door, it was a total rush job. I fashioned the bottom part of the dress from one of mister lovely husbands discarded t-shirts. and the top was just some left over jersey knit fabric from my stash.

Personally, I think it turned out pretty good considering that she goes through dress so freaking fast. Oh yeah and that Balloon is the original one from our family photos. it just wont fall to the ground keeps on floating.

Something for me!

Do you remember this little number I made for Bug?
She loves it I haven't seen her get more excited about an everyday dress before.
I had scraps from this little project along with some really great ribbed knit purple loveliness that I decided to break in gertie with a ME Original. Ok it's really just a fancy T-shirt but who cares I freaking love it! I had to crop my eye balls out of this picture because if I didn't I would have needed to put a large warning label telling people with children and small animals to please shield them from the crazy lady.  Although the shirt actually lays a bit nicer then photographed there's only so much you can pose when you are worried your 3 year old may drop your expensive camera... Oh and did I mention that Bug took these for me. she is super talented.

She's super talented and also super artsy, close up detail up top and rule of thirds below.. =)

and of course she wanted her photo taken. instead of her dressing comfy after dinner she likes to put on her sunday best. fine with me atleast it's getting more then a handful of wears out of it.

That's if from me tonight.

who doesn't love purple and orange!?

I'm pretty sure I love this dress about ten million times more then the other one. That and Bug was so happy with it that she actually wanted to take pictures.. um well sort of I had to bribe her and there was a soda involved well you get the gist.

Once again this dress was fashioned out of old shirts I had lying about, one of which was still hanging in my closet and then I realized that its was never going to fit me properly again so it got the scissors. The orange stripped fabric was a steal at only 2.97 a yard I am still kicking myself for not getting more!

I love that Bug's hair is the same color as the wheat... so pretty

Look at those long eyelashes!!!

So I edited this picture somewhat different then how I normally edit. I did more of a blown out effect and I think that on this photo it works quite well. I wouldn't do it on all of them though.

flutter sleeve dress.

So I have had this shirt (green, orange and dotted apple with pockets) in my pile of things to use for maybe two years, I never really found anything that struck me as "WOW, this would be great for that shirt" that is until last week!  I have done upcycled dresses in the past and Bug really loved them. She was able to wear a different one everyday without me worrying that she was going to destroy it.

What I loved about this short (other then it costing me an ENTIRE 50 Cents was the pockets in the front. a believe me if it were long enough I would have totally worn it.

I really enjoy upcycling or repurposing clothing. I think Bug it quite unique and so sure her clothing be.

My only regret would be that I cut it to be a size for a #t when Clearly I should have stuck with the 2t width and the 3t length. at least she will be able to wear it next year too! and if she gets extremely super tall then I saved some fabric from the sleeve to add length on the bottom =)

Ruffly Top and Puffy Shorts

I did a few new things with creating this outfit, one being I have never made shorts before and I created the pattern from a previous pair of shorts. (which I didn't use anyway cuz I changed so much but it was nice to have a base)

I found this ruffly fabric in the red tag section of Joann Fabrics, right when I saw it I knew i was going to buy it because it jumped out at me. then later that week I was talking to my sister and she was mentioning that she had gone to joanns in AZ and found a fabric that reminded her of me and it was this stuff. So it was meant to be mine. Although personally I can't sport yellow I'm lucky to have a little girl that can.
The straps on this shirt are actually re-purposed waist ties from a tube dress I found at goodwill. I thought it matched perfectly and I didn't have to make them so that's even better!

As I said before I have NEVER made shorts, not even in the sewing classes I took in school, for some reason they were more interested in button down shirts back then, go figure.  So these shorts were puffy sides, but my favorite thing about them isn't just there puffy side it's the button closure on the front, this isn't just for show its a real button. I wasn't to keen on the idea of putting all this work into a pair of shorts just to run a piece of elastic through the top. Although I did put elastic in the just in the back (my child has no butt or hips so this helped her not have to keep pulling them up)
There's about a 5 inch piece of elastic in back.

This is what I was most excited about... CARE TAGS!!!! I'm pretty sure I peed my pants when they came in the mail. currently I only have 3t and 4t but I will be ordering a few other sizes soon. I can honestly say I have been slightly addicted to sewing lately.

I think she likes her new outfit!

Swimsuit UpCycled from.... ?

SPORTSBRAS!!!
Now the thought of using someone's sportsbras to make Bug a swimsuit would normally weird me out. However these were my sister in laws so I'm ok with it. A few weeks back my my Sister In Law Fur let me go through a large bag of clothes that she was going to give to the thrift store to see if I could use any of it.. HECK yea there were lots of cool things that I could use for Bug.

 And here we go.
I'm really happy how this swimsuit turned out. I'm pretty sure the top can double as a dance shirt for her on Wednesday's

She wasn't to happy that I wanted to put her hair up so I could take a picture of the straps.

The only down side, the shorts being the material they are collect grass as if it were static. eh the price to pay for cuteness.

Puffed Sleeves

I had a shirt in mind to make myself and when I realized I didn't have enough material so I opted for a smaller version for Avi (man she gets all the cute things!)

The PUFF SLEEVE! Surprisingly easy to make, Just think really long cuff... I really wanted to keep everything extremely simple that's why their aren't any ruffles, flowers, bows etc,  however I really think I should have made the puff a tad bit puffier   (spell check said that puffier wasn't a word but I could get by with puffy-er... odd)
We had to go to the library the last few days but Bug hasn't really been feeling that well and I needed to drop books off so we went and saw Auntie Fur and then to the library. At first she wasn't really into getting her picture taken, there was a little boy scream to high heaven and she kept wanting to go over there and ask if he was ok.

I think this one if my favorite out of them all, she was showin' off her sweet dance moves.
By the end she was having, even named a few of her poses.  I love how it looks like she is rocking the 80's one shoulder look!

This was her "Casual" pose

Since I live in the "lovely" state of Utah our spring has been.. well lets just say a bit off. normally I wouldn't make a long sleeved shirt unless if was fall or getting close to winter but I just couldn't pass this one up. I have a pattern for a 2T/3T shirt for anyone who wants it. I just can't figure out how to upload it onto my blog..  that might have to be this weeks. "how to" project

good grief could I have used any more Quotations in my post.

Can You Guess..

What Bug is going to be for Halloween?

She doesn't look at the camera, it was a struggle to get the thing off her to take a photo of it.

That dang blasted glue gun was giving me problems. So it's not the straightest thing I've ever made but for a first try I think I did pretty good. I can see MANY a princess crowns in the near future and this was a really fast and easy way to do them.. not to mention CHEAP I think this entire thing cost me approx .75 Cents

I'm thinking Buttons and Sparkly things for the next one and it just might be pink too.

15 Minute Dress

Believe it or not this dress was only a half a yard of fabric and cost me about $2. Sometimes Buying pre-smocked fabric is the way to go.
I simply shortened the smocking by cutting out the middle strip of fabric (approx 6 inches plus 1 inch of the smocking) the piece that I cut out ended up being the sleeves. I think I might add a couple of straps just to finish it off. I can never tell what might work until she wears it.

One of these days I will actually take pictures as I am sewing but since I do my sewing in the middle of the night it rarely happens.

maybe next time

My Little Alice

Bug turned two the beginning of March so Husband and I took her to the theatre to see the new Alice in Wonderland. Not only did she get to see the movie I dressed her up like Alice. I only get to do this for a little while longer so I am taking full advantage.
The night before the movie I was busy sewing away on her little dress. Which is 2 BIG accomplishments for me 1 being I hardly ever sit and make a garment from start to finish in one night, and 2 I had NO PATTERN. I thought it was going to be alot harder then it was to construct a pattern out of my head but it turns out my head has a lot of useful info stored that I should really let out more often.

I have been trying and trying to get Bug out in the yard to take pictures of such dress but the either the weather or the child was not permitting so finally yesterday I went out and said let's do this.  This is my child that has not taken a nap, does not what to do anything other then put dirt into the tea pot and on top of it when she did look at me she either blinked or gave my goofy faces. , 15 mins later... I'm done, All I have to say is at least she's cute and I can't blame her for having some of my personality, you just gotta love her.
