One of the Pew Poll’s on religion in America said that there are 18% non-believers in ANY religion in this country. That’s about 54,000,000 + — people…it’s time we spoke up and not take anymore crap from Christians.
NO empirical evidence exists to justify the truth of the Christian faith, or any other religion.

Jason Rosenhouse over at EvolutionBlog details some of the theological twists and turns some religious writers are going through trying to explain a religious world with no Adam and Eve to blame original sin on.

A variety of lines of evidence make it clear that the human population has always numbered in the thousands and certainly never dipped down to two. “Silicon Valley, the politically liberal technology hub is an unlikely incubator of conservative Christian activism.
But a group of its venture capitalists is backing an ambitious project that seeks to affect the 2012 election by registering 5 million new conservative Christians to vote.
The nonprofit organization ‘United in Purpose’ is using sophisticated data-mining techniques to compile a database of every unregistered born-again and evangelical Christian and conservative Catholic in the country.
Through partnerships with Christian organizers and antiabortion groups, United in Purpose hopes to recruit 100,000 “champions” to identify unregistered Christians and get them to the polls as part of its Champion the Vote project. Profiles drawn from its database, which numbers more than 120 million people, will enable organizers to target potential voters with emails and Web videos tailored to their interests.
Most of its financial supporters remain anonymous, but one of its main backers is technology entrepreneur Ken Eldred, a generous Republican donor. Its board includes Reid Rutherford, a Silicon Valley solar-energy plant developer.
“Our goal is to raise up a body of believers and that they elect a lot of godly leaders,” said Bill Dallas, chief executive of United in Purpose.” From the LA Times Here My emphasis.
Well that’s kinda’ scary…a group of some of the richest people on the planet are going to enable millions of heretofore unregistered religiously conservative (read evangelical fundamentalists) people to vote…but only for GODLY candidates. This in combination with the religiously controlled Republican Party candidates will mean hard times for Democrats and Obama supporters next year.
Now I am truly not advocating for a godless country (well, maybe that) and/or the suppression of political advocacy for a chosen candidate. That would be UN-American and devious. What I would advocate is that we make our best effort to expose what is going on here. This is an attempt to take over a Democratic Republic by religious thugs…and make no mistake, we are talking about thugs here. The stated goal of the leadership is to take over America in the name of the Christian Religion and rule as if we were living in Old Testament times.
That sounds to me like the scenario for Margaret Atwood’s book, The Handmaid’s Tale. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to live in a world where my sex-life is under control of the government, or if a women, my reproduction rights were controlled by religious zealots, a world where women are once again reduced in status, homosexuals were summarily executed by the state, and heresy and blasphemy were also capitol crimes. You know…like the Dark Ages. Leviticus 24:16 states that those who speak blasphemy “shall surely be put to death”.
This country is inching closer and closer to a religious war.

In case you haven’t guessed Ms. O’Hare is talking to Christians. People who don’t buy into the Christian mythical construct have been, and are now, treated like dirt or worse.
I think now is a good time to turn the tables on the religious folk. They still tend to treat us badly and many many of them threaten (and sometimes follow through) violence. Revenge would be sweet. 🙂

The often repeated theme that atheists have no reason to be moral without a god is probably the most popular and repeated myth made about atheism. The claims come in a variety of forms but they are all based on the assumption that the ONLY source of morality is from a God on high, a religion…and preferably only the Christian one. Therefore, without Christianity humans cannot live moral lives. This of course automatically deprecates all other religions on this planet.
The thing I find most amazing is that Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindu’s, and the myriad other denominations, sects, and cults in the world have been trying for maybe three plus millennia to prove that there IS a God…and they have ALL totally, completely, entirely failed. They all have stories that depend on magic…that envisions demons, devils, ghosts, angels, etc., and they all were formed a few thousand years ago when mankind was going through a huge god-making period in our history…conveniently forgetting that humans have been roaming around the earth for 200,000 years or so without a need for really invasive gods.
So anyway, there is no god or gods, therefore all this morality the Christians talk about is just made up by some goat herder desert dwellers a few thousand years ago. In other words morals come from mankind. Wars and kindness comes from man. Good and evil comes from man. We are ultimately responsible for ALL that goes on in our history, culture, and civilizations…a non-existent god cannot be blamed for our shortcomings or our triumphs.

What is the agenda of the Muslim extremists, other than killing infidels? Well we know that they are anti-woman’s rights and anti-gay rights. They will kill women who step out of line and kill any person exhibiting gay behavior. Their countries are generally controlled by religion and have no separation of church and state.
Funny thing…the Christian Right has pretty much the same agenda. Women are considered second class citizens by the church hierarchy of most Christian denominations. All but a handful of Christian churches condemn the homosexuals to burn in hell forever…and several evil fundamentalist movements want us Americans to be ruled by Old Testament law, which essentially means no separation of church and state.
So it seems that the Christian right wants exactly what the Muslim extremists want…they both want to take over America and make us slaves to their religion.
Fundamentalist Religion of any kind is evil, and bad for our country’s future. As civilized, thinking, and caring people we need to recognize the threat these evil people present to us and our country and do our best to dissuade them from what they are trying to do. They need to be exposed for what they are…a deadly and real threat to civilization.
