What? No Cake?
I recently had a birthday. It ended up being a very odd birthday for me. I was working and not just regular work, this was event work. Like overnight stay event work. I don’t worry so much if people remember my birthday or not. Wait, I take that back. There are a few that I care if they do or do not remember, like family, you know…mom, dad, husband. Those sorts. Anyway, other than that it isn’t a huge deal. I appreciate those who do remember and still love those who don’t. But there is one thing that I have decided that is a must: a cake! (most kinds will do). It could be big or small, short or tall and it must have at least one candle. I did not discover how important this was to me until it didn’t happen.
Rocky came up to Snowbird to join me for dinner as the event I was working came to a close. We cleaned up and finally headed for home. On the drive he gave me a thoughtful gift but I was still secretly hoping that there would be some sort of dessert waiting for me at home. The only thing waiting for me was the mess I had left….darn it! I realized that not only was I hoping for a little cake but also for my clothes to somehow put themselves away. My awesome mom told me once that if I keep my expectations low then I will almost always be pleasantly surprised. Well I decided that if I tell Rocky what my expectations are then I won’t have to lower them. So I told him that I was a little disappointed that I didn’t have a cake. He told me that he had no idea cake was so important because when he was growing up his birthday often wasn’t a big deal and he didn’t always get cake. I guess he could see that his answer didn’t really satisfy me because the next night when he came home from work (it was late and I was already on my way to dream land) he entered with a small cake and what looked like a small ball of fire on top (I was not wearing glasses) and he was singing happy birthday. So sweet.
So I have learned a few things. 1) For my birthday I expect some sort of sweet thing with a candle on top. 2) No matter how much I want my clothes to learn how to put themselves away they never will. 3) I have the sweetest husband in the world, ( okay, I already knew this but I love the little confirmations). Thanks for the cake babe.
PS...Thank you to my family too. Especially Peggy who made one of my favorite cakes, pudding cake.

6th place is better than 7th
Now finally today...Mothers day. I went to two Sacrament meetings today and got to hear from both primary's. I love it when the little kids sing in Sacrament meeting. I can't help but laugh. In one of the meetings after each song was over a little kid would yell out little comments like "let's do it again!" and "are we done now." Another fun thing in Sacrament meeting was the flashlight that was on a set of keys that was on the podium because someone had left them in the Sunday school room was flashing on and off all during the meeting. It was facing the congregation and seemed to have some sort of short in it because it was going on and off by itself. It was kind of hard to not notice because 1) the beam was very bright and had a blue tint to it and 2) they were my keys. Oops.
To my mom, you are so wonderful, I miss you too! To my mother in law, Cyndi, I'm loving the opportunities that I am getting to visit with you and get to know you better. You just amaze me. I love both of you so much!

WICKED!

This past weekend Rocky and I got to spend a wonderful weekend in Vista! Rocky's parents took us to see the show Wicked. This was the second time we have seen it and it seems to get better and better. The one thing that remains the same is me singing with the actors. I should really just be on the stage. If anyone is looking to see Wicked I definitely recommend seeing it in L.A. Rocky and I even got a picture next to Bob Hopes Hollywood Star. I know that is pretty BIG time. The picture is on someone else's camera but if you close your eyes and picture two people (a boy and a girl) with huge smiles and a star on the sidewalk with Bob Hopes name you will pretty much have the gist of it.
Saturday we spent the day doing yard work. I have to say that it was quite fun. Good weather and good company seem to make any project fun. I'm still scrubbing paint out of the cracks of my hand. I guess the plus side is that my hand looks like it has a little tan...okay it really just looks dirty but I'm trying to be optimistic about it.
Rocky and I have reached a new age milestone. This is the first time that we have made the drive to California and had to stop to sleep on the way there. We must be getting old. We miss the good old days when we had mounds of energy and could stay awake all hours of the night. I'll be honest, I don't know that Rocky has ever seen that side of me. But there was a time when the moon seemed to energize me and sleep seemed silly.
