I have a friend who recently took a trip to Mexico. While there she attended church with her kids. She has a son in nursery and had taken him to nursery class to find that there was one toy for the 5 kids to share and they were so excited to share that one toy with her son because he was new. She had wondered if they only had one toy or if that is what they thought church policy was. Turns out they only had one toy. She is awesome and putting together a box of toys to be delivered to them. I'm sure the kids are going to love it.
For some reason I have been thinking about this tons. I was touched that little nursery kids would be so excited to share their one toy with someone they didn't know. If you aren't familiar nursery kids are 18 months to 3 years old. WOW! James has like 5 billion toys and has a hard time sharing one.
If James only had one toy would he be more likely to share? Would it mean more to him to see a happy friend because he shared?
I really do think that Less is MORE in most cases. Especially with material things. While I know this it is so hard to put in play. I'm really good at buying THINGS.
All in all I have pondered what James would do/what I would do if I removed all of his toys but one?
My mom used to/well still gets rid of THINGS all the time. We have gone without couches and a tv. You had to be careful of what you left lying around the house. It might come up missing one day. If you were really lucky you could find it once again at the DI (thrift store).
Have you ever considered simplifying? If yes, what have you done?
I'm off to ponder more less is more thoughts.

3 Years Old
Today James turned 3 years old (March 17th). He has been so excited about his birthday. I'm not sure of his stats as far as growth goes. We will get those in a few weeks. It is safe to say that he is growing and not a baby anymore.
Just checking out his trusty gun
I'm going to post his 20 Birthday Questions but wanted to remember a few things about James.
Sheriff James
Cowboy crack.
He starting to pick up on the alphabet
Loves blowing bubbles
He is learning lots of fun songs. He LOVES "once there was a snowman."
He loves to play with me.
Loving the clothes Grammy made him.
He has been talking a lot about knowing the "name of your heart." His is James, mine is Mom, Dad's is dad and he just doesn't know Logans. Maybe he will with time.
crying because he didn't want his picture taken
He loves to be Spiderman and Ironman. His sound effects are awesome. "Pew Pew" for Ironman and "pshhh" for his spiderman webshooters.
Typical James laying in the road.
He really likes peanut butter and ketchup.
Showing great grandma the popcorn on the tree
He still has his binky, lovingly known as Bunny. (Sadly she will be leaving us soon....like tonight, if I am brave enough)
trying to fit two little people in a one little person car.
He is almost fully potty trained. He just needs help pulling down and pulling up his pants...and wiping. Oh and getting on the toilet. Okay - yes, we still have work to do there.
Flying the firetruck kite
He is really really really stretching me as a mom. Some days I don't know if I will be able to make it another 5 minutes without completely losing it. But somehow I am surviving with this little man.
He is a delight and so so hard all at the same time. He gives the best hugs and kisses.
The next few are a little superhero moves series....enjoy
We had a little birthday party
Laughing at the picture of himself in the card
Loving the big bucks he got in the mail

Grandma the Great
I got super lucky and was able to get my Grandma to sneak in a visit to Alabama while she was on her trip. All it cost me was a drive to Mississippi to see cousins that I hadn't seen in a long time. It was pretty much an all win situation for me.
The boys and I loaded up the van and headed west to Mississippi. It was only a little crazy...James had an accident in his seat and Logan had a blowout. I was able to contain my bodily functions...luckily.
Other than that we did pretty well.
We were able to attend a baby shower and meet new cousins. James loved it. It was in heaven and got so much attention. He was so sad when it was time to go.
We drove Grandma back to our place in Alabama and only had to make 107 stops along the way. Okay it was really only like 6...but it felt like 107 and we couldn't get home fast enough. Grandma was starting to get tree sick. There are lots of trees out this way. More than she had imagined.
But we finally made it and showed Grandma more and more trees. We are surrounded here. She got tired and fell asleep on the floor.
James loved having his great grandma here. And tried so patiently to wait to her wake up from her name. He sat down next to her head and she asked him to give her 5 more minutes. He sweetly said ok and then woke her up 30 seconds later...which in his mind has seemed like 5 minutes.
Grandma was able to help me out while I went to an unexpected Dr. appointment. She babysat James - or James babysat Grandma...it was hard to tell. Grandma read James all the books in his room and then felt tired and told James that she was tired. So he got her a pillow and a blanket so she could nap. He also got her a binky and really thought that she needed it because he wouldn't take NO for an answer. So grandma had a binky too. Then he turned off the light and got into his bed and said that it was time for a rest. 30 seconds later he jumped out of bed and turned on the light and said 'It's time to wake up.'
Grandma was a trooper. We sunbathed on the deck while the boys took naps. We weeded my garden box, we ate HUGE baked potatoes, we flew the kite, played basketball, drew pictures, played games and tried to wear each other out.
We loved having grandma here and cried when it was time for her to leave. Hope she comes back.
