When you stop talking, people are gonna wish they had listened.
As a teenager we are often looked at in the eyes of the media and everywhere else, to be the “entitled,” generation. The generation that basically thinks “ITS ALL ABOUT ME!” But that’s not true.
Teens today may have a shocking rate of pregnancies, and what seems to be a lack of ambition. But hold up! How can adults possibly know what it’s like to grow up now days?
Here’s the thing about this generation that they may not consider.
– The competiton is fierce: What people tend to overlook about this greedy self-centered generation is that is just isn’t easy. Yes, we may have more oppurtunities but that doesn’t mean we ALL have them. And kids now days are more driven than ever. We don’t have the garenteed jobs that the American dream was built upon. So many people want the same things and there isn’t an equal amount of supply and demand. The competition is crazy. We are stressing ourselves out trying to be the very best. It isn’t as easy as they all think. Gone are the days when good grades were all it took to ensure your future. You have to have an “edge,” and be more talented than any one out there. Do you know the pressure that takes when so many people are good? Good isn’t good enough anymore! It’s a dog-eat-dog world out there as we all strive for academic success, so it’s easy to see why we are so stressed out all the time.
–Society: We are living in a corrupt society. Everyone’s striving for perfection in an imperfect world. The media tells us how we should look and act and no body knows how to love themselves, let alone others. Standards of ourselves and how we should be are pushed so high that it’s insane we even have time for anything else!
–Adults aren’t understanding. It’s true that this generation is more revealing than any other. Teens posts nudes like their bodies aren’t worth anything to them, we have music videos of skimpy clothing, but here’s the thing they forget, ITS NOT OUR FAULT! The older generation is the one marketing this new way of life to us! We can barely stay afloat and everyone’s busy trying to save themselves, and we often feel alone.
Honestly, we need someone to cut us slack in a demanding world where we can’t even cut ourselves slack.
This is my take on the ” Teens Tell Their Story,” project, week 1.
It’s funny, isn’t it? How beautiful it can all seem.
The pictures that everyone sees, the way you all sit together and go places and the stories you tell and the things that you do in front of people. It can be such a good mirage that during those times you forget go corrupt it is. How your friendship that you put so much into can mean nothing to them. How you feel it all changing and can tell you are no longer really there, that’s it’s just show and I wonder if they knew it too in the end. But the beginng, it was wonderful. It was real. Maybe that’s what makes it hurt so bad.
You start to notice the stories you’re telling seem too dull for them, and the secrets you’ve never told anyone else aren’t nothing too them. That they don’t seem to care how you’ve finally opened up to people and they act like they enjoy you. But then it starts to crack and you realized you’re mistake.
But then something else happens after you wonder if you should ever trust again.
Something beautiful begins to remerge and you smile because this is it. This was your lesson learned and the thing you grow on because you know what you deserve. You know people should have to work to get those rare pieces of you that you keep hidden.
And you pick yourself off and you thank them for the memories and the lesson and you move on because this is life and it’s so beautiful and endings may be sad but you’re gonna go out there and find a new a beginning to rest your soul.
And you’re gonna plunge into choas, because either way it wins. But by jumping, you do too.
You will never be them.
Stop sighing when you see people’s perfect bodies in the magizine. They tell you it’s not real. But what if it is? What if that person was born with that “perfect,” body and you weren’t?
GUESS WHAT?
It happens.
Maybe you will never have her butt or his eyes.
So what? ACCEPT THAT YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL YOURSELF.
They can’t have your talent or your hair either.
LOVEYOUR SELF BEACAUSE YOU ARE SO LOVELY, AND SOMEONE’S WISHING THEY COULD BE YOU AND HAVE YOUR BRAINS OR YOUR VOICE.
You’d hate for them to look at you and feel bad about themselves.
LOVE YOURSELF.
Because you’re dang fabulous.
You dreamt of things the world couldn’t offer, which caused the stars to cry for you and whisper to you to join them.
Sadly,
You listened,
And they took you
Away from me.
Honestly, the thing we need the most is to love. To love one another and have so much love for people that you also love yourself. To be filled with so much love that it bursts out and spills through your tongue, slipping out your mouth like fire. To burst out “I love you,” recklessly with a blush and without reprimand. To give without getting and to love loving people. To show others how to love so recklessly that everyone will love boldly without saying “Im sorry,” ever. We just need to love.
And love deeply.
Sorry, its been awhile. I’ve been doing busy things.
Please don’t let your weight define you.
That number on the scale will never count your worth.
Don’t think your pretty face is all you need
a good personality never wrinkles with age.
Never let what others say make you or break you
they will never know what lies in your heart.
Please don’t let anything get to you.
Only you know who you are.
