Rengay with David

Reflections – A Rengay

by Pat and David

old bathroom mirror –

wiping the steamy glass down

those same cheeks and jowls (db)

these life lines, owning their place

like scripts, telling a story (pr)

eroded slowly

the landscape of living flesh

keeps what has worn through (db)

still playing a part

in all I have become –

grateful, I still am (pr)

one voice gone, another speaks
now called to provide answers (db)

but secrets are held

as eyes hide blooming twinkles –

old mirror sees all (pr)

Rengay?

Rengay is a form of linked verse created as an alternative to Japanese renga or renku. The form was devised by Garry Gay in California in 1992. A rengay consists of six thematic haiku verses and is normally composed by two or three poets, although solo and six-person rengay are not uncommon.

This form actually requires a bit of explanation, so I recommend that you read about it HERE.

Tanka Tuesday -Time

a vivid canvas

forged by nature at sunset

as autumn draws near

time wanders in the footsteps

of fate – undaunted, fearless

Life Changes

My brother lives on Maui and had gone radio silent on me. I thought it was odd, given I recently had abdominal surgery. So it felt like something else was going on.

I am the weirdo in the family now, that whenever I think of someone, my phone rings and it’s them. My mother had this quality. This used to creep me out. But lately, not so much.

Now, I have come to find out, that the reason for this ‘quiet’ is that he is awaiting a lung biopsy. He’s got substantial black areas on his lungs.

So now we wait.

life changes

in an off-putting way –

aging

Quadrille Monday – Change

Spidey senses jostle

I ask of the universe

Please – don’t make it so

Nobody is talking

But, I know.

Don’t know how I know

Ripples from gut punches are worming its way

Nothing to hang onto

Just that wayward promise

morphing through the universe

Respect – Ovi Poem

bench of old men way more than five

camaraderie is alive

chatter wafting, as from a hive

for lazing outdoors – new respect

Change

This Holly Plant lives just outside my door.

A season in turmoil. The circle gets smaller. Loved ones pass on leaving us behind to sort out the ravages of being. Such loss is soothed only by a long spring. But wounds remain so, as we find a way to live with them.

we are left standing

as december roars on through

this season of life

a little more worn, rumpled

but for this, we are grateful

Life

here’s to the days
when you looked a person in the eyes,
unblinking till they revealed themselves

when your nose was yours to pick
without shame or explanation

when you wore the cutest dress
with a diaper underneath without  consternation
here’s to those days!

I am my best self when I feel like a lunatic but I just don’t care..I think that might also be aging:)
