This year, the hydrangeas in my garden were relentless in their pursuit of space.
The Lenas Broome bush to its left was dwarfed. But the one to its right has dwarfed it, in turn.
They are a part of the trio the lilac bush rounds it out.
They came early and lingered.
They overshadowed and hindered.
But, what they had not counted on this year was the vigor, unruliness and the patience of the wisteria. A climber with an attitude cloaked in a seductive scent.
Wisteria entanglements came from all angles. This happened with all that stood, in or near its path.
Now, the hydrangeas look as haggard and as tired as the other occupants of the garden. Beauty muted, in autumns approach.
Now, I have a decision to make. My daughter laughs saying, “you say that every year”. As she chuckled the words that percolated up through that little voice I tend to ignore – change is coming.

Between these and the hydrangea my garden is in one of its showy phase

Taken on my morning walk this morning. It seems in my neighborhood, hydrangeas are now center stage.

To be honest, I photographed this at the plant store at the (Brooklyn Terminal Market) where there are all things plant, and other stuff🙂. This hydrangea wears a tan very well, or at the very least a lovely blush. Even the leaves are not purely green. Quite beautiful!
