The longer-term effects of a skewed “one child” policy combined with the introduction of Tinder into the People’s Republic of China made life increasingly difficult for the female members of the People’s Liberation Army. Avoiding the romantic inclinations of her fellow platoon members led to Chi-Gai achieving a sub-4 minute mile and marriage to a 3 star general.

To be honest the government’s plans to reduce defence expenditure had begun to have a serious impact on the army’s weapons procurement budget, and on their basic infantry training programme.

The girls in the training platoon all came from good homes in Beijing, and they were determined not to be outshone by the male recruits. Sadly they had not completely grasped the meaning of the word “kindling”…

The colour of money…

A 24-year-old man who is color blind has been sent to prison for making counterfeit cash that was so badly forged he apparently never even attempted to use it.

The man surnamed Zhao, from Suining, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, researched how to make counterfeit money online and bought some required necessities including printers, ink cartridges and special paper used to make fake money, according to a local domestic news outlet, which didn’t explain how police nabbed him.

Zhao was so inept at counterfeiting that he had to ask his girlfriend to check the color of the fake money he made.

Zhao told local police that he didn’t have an income and had inadvertently found an online group that provides instructions on how to make counterfeit money.

Police recovered about 2,000 yuan in fake notes, far less than what Zhao spent making them. Some Net users sarcastically hailed Zhao as a “business genius,” while others lamented his inability to understand the limits of his skillset.

“He is really not suited for the job,” said a Weibo user.

Zhao was sentenced to three years and six months in prison, while his girlfriend is going to jail for 18 months, reported local news outlets.

A brave effort in the face of certain failure!

Jong Li was not only the smallest of this year’s intake for the Marines, he was also the least popular with the sergeant instructors. He discovered this during the second week of his basic, shallow-water combat training.

The decision to include the Catering Corps in the PLA’s Winter training exercise was met with disbelief and incredulity by the new cadets, right up until they were introduced to the “animal slaughter and vegetable chopping in severe weather conditions,” portion of the programme; at which point they all agreed it was “pretty cool.”

disappointed

It would be fair to say that recruit Jang-Chi was disappointed when the Honor Cadet promotion went to his best friend Xi-Lao. The determination and original thought the he displayed in dealing with the situation resulted in him being awarded the vacated position and his appointment as leader in the full military honours that were granted for Xi-Lao’s funeral.

In order to cut costs and speed-up the process, the People’s Liberation Army arranged to have its “mine detecting” dogs trained in France. There was a degree of confusion in the translation of the original contract and although the returning dogs proved useless in combat situations the regular supply of truffles they dug-up was very welcome in the Officers’ Mess.

reduction-plan

President Xi’s decision to reduce the size of the People’s Liberation Army resulted in some hard choices when it came to dishing-out jobs to the less successful recruits, but the desired 10% reduction was achieved on the very first day of the annual marksmanship competition. The new “moving targets” element in the competition proved very popular, especially amongst the drill sergeants.

winter-training

It turned out, but only after the severe-winter weather training had started, that the new recruits for the mechanical and motor field repair squadrons were ready some 2 years before the first scheduled delivery of the new 8-wheel advanced supply trucks. As a result of this there was some inopportune chatter and a definite loss of morale amongst the troops.
