Xo was 35 years old, he had been in the army for twelve years, had become corporal and platoon leader five years ago and was currently bucking to be kicked-up to sergeant; and still his mother phoned him twice a day to make sure he was eating properly and had clean underwear.
For those posted to the more remote rural provinces life was dull with little opportunity to relax and enjoy the finer things of life; that was until Lian-Xi came up with the brilliant idea of ant racing. Not only did it provide entertainment for his fellow conscripts, it also allowed Lian-Xi to leave the army, after 6 months, as a full colonel, buy a large home in Beijing and subsequently acted as the prototype for his nationwide chain of gaming establishments.
Cho-Li and the guys were pretty pumped at being the Motor Pool Company selected to service and maintain the new all-terrain vehicle that that Army would be introducing next year. Their enthusiasm dimmed a little when they discovered the “locking brake problem,” the “gear-sticking problem,” and the “non-standard bolt and fastening systems.” With the new tool kits unavailable for at least another two years the team was not looking forward to the Winter.
