Layered Science Fiction (2022 – 2025)

The Layered Sci-Fi Sculptures form a significant part of a broader collection of work dedicated to exploring science fiction themes through innovative sculpture. These pieces are created using recycled cardboard, meticulously constructed into objects and spacecraft that reference iconic motifs from science fiction.

This ongoing series is directly inspired by the linear, layer-based process of 3D printing, bringing this approach into the traditional hand-crafted realm. The sculptures are built up layer by layer, faithfully echoing additive manufacturing techniques while utilising accessible, sustainable materials.

The emphasis in this body of work is placed on the making process and the exploration of form. Rather than striving for precise or exact replication of science fiction objects and imagery, the work prioritises creativity in construction and the expressive potential of layered cardboard. The result is a collection that values the journey of making and the tactile qualities of the materials as much as the finished appearance.
