Tricky alphabet

Aiden was really funny this afternoon. I was in the baby's room sewing the hem on a skirt that I am making for myself and he came in with his backpack on and informed me that he didn't need it in his fort anymore so he was putting it away. Then he said that he needed it in by his desk because school was starting at 11:30 but it's only 4 so we're still okay. Then he brought in a chair and sat down at his desk and was looking at the letters and numbers. He called out "eight." So I asked him where the number eight was and he pointed to ten. Then he said "I." So I asked where the I was and he pointed to the F. I asked him what letter that was because just yesterday we were playing with our alphabet bean bags and he told me what that letter was without being asked. He responded, "Sometimes when I sleep the letters just come out of my tummy so I don't know them anymore. They're tricky like that." This just made me laugh. I think he knows a lot more letters than he lets on but if you start to quiz him he just says, "I don't want to have to say it." I hadn't heard the tricky letters excuse yet though. That one was pretty creative!!

Spoiled

I feel spoiled with this new computer. We are loving it so far. The screen saver is really cool. It will play pictures and videos (no sound in screen saver mode) and it changes how it displays the pictures. Sometimes they are black and white other times it does a collage of pictures on the screen and other various things. It has been fun to watch. Aiden really likes to watch it too. He looked over at the screen the other day and said, "mom who's that running around on the computer?" I just wish I had a good program to make slide shows to burn to dvd so I could watch them on the tv or have them for trips in the car. Although I think they would be used more in the car than the tv since my computer screen is now bigger than our tv!!

Black Friday

Today was my first black friday shopping experience and it actually wasn't too terrible. We woke the kids up at 6 am and went to Best Buy. Aiden was really cute when we woke him up he asked if it was Sunday and we were going to church. We told him no and explained what we were doing. Then in the car they were talking about watching several movies. We told them we weren't going to be in the car that long. I guess since we were waking them up and it was dark the only two reasons we do that is when we have 8:30 church or are taking a long trip to Utah! Anyway we were able to make it to Best Buy and we didn't really have to fight through a terrible crowd like I anticipated and we were able to get the computer package deal we were looking for. Now I am sitting in front of my brand new 21" wide flat screen monitor with a computer that has 6 GB memory and 650 GB hard drive. Tim and I feel like it was Christmas today!! In essence it was but we didn't want to wait that long to put it up! Then we even had the nerve to venture over to Wal-Mart for a few things that we needed and again the lines weren't bad and the crowd was managable. I've seen much worse. I think we have spent plenty in the last few days though so we won't be venturing out again for a while!!

Turkey Day

We had a fun Thanksgiving Day and hope all of you did too. The day before and the morning of we were working on the roof trying to put up more insulation around the heating and cooling ducts as well as reseal around the elbows where they come back into the house. It took longer than anticipated but we finished and hopefully we won't be getting anymore rain in the house! In the afternoon we decided to take the kids to the park since we kept telling them when we were done with the roof we would take them. We ate lunch and then we usually have quiet time but there was rain in the forecast and I was afraid if we waited then we wouldn't get to go to the park. Kaylise asked if we were going to have quiet time and I said no and explained why. She responded with, "Oh I'm sorry Mom. We can't have quiet time." I'm sure she was truly disappointed!!

Bikes

We were planning on buying a bike for Aiden for Christmas and ended up finding one on craigs list for $20. Since we had both gone to look at it and the kids were with us Aiden knew that we had a new bike for him and there was no keeping it from him. So we just let him have it early and we lowered the seat on Kaylise's bike so she could have a bigger bike too. They were both really excited but the first time we went to ride them they would only pedal once or twice and then stop. I think Kaylise was just intimidated a little and the training wheels on Aiden's were bent up. So he teetered a little more than he was comfortable with. We fixed his training wheels and convinced Kaylise to try going a little farther then two pedals and now they are riding everywhere! I tried to get a short video of Kaylise's learning stage but she was done riding before I got the camera out and the next day she looked like a pro. I think it will be lots of fun for us. We bought a few accessories that we will save for Christmas and that will be neat for them too!

Hiccups during prayer

The other day Aiden was really cute when trying to say the prayer for dinner. He ended up getting the hiccups just as we sat down to the table. He would start his prayer and say a couple of words and then hiccup. Then he would start over. This happened about three times and each time he started to talk a little faster. The last time he just said it really quick and only blessed the food so he could get through it all before he hiccupped again! I guess he thought he needed to say it all together or something so he just kept trying but it was fun to listen to him.

Go to bed Dad!

Kaylise was having a hard time going to sleep the other night and just kept getting back up and coming in with one excuse after another. One of the last times she came in she said, "Daddy needs to go to bed too." I repeated her and she said, "yeah cause he doesn't listen to me and get up in the morning." I guess it has been too much work to get him out of bed in the morning so she figured he needed to go to bed a little earlier so he could get up when she wanted him too!!

Where did the snowmen go?

I made a couple of skirts for Kaylise the last couple of weeks. The first one I finished last week was a tan denim with a snowman lace overlay. Kaylise really liked it and wanted to where it all the time. She was able to wear it to a baptism and then to church last sunday. Well I turned it inside out and washed it today so it would be clean for tomorrow. When I took it out of the dryer I was quite saddened by what I saw. The lace no longer had any snowmen. I don't know if it was from the washer or dryer or a combination but apparently I should have hand washed it. Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Ice cream truck!

I changed the ring tone on our phone so it sings old macdonald right now. I think it's fun and it makes me smile every time the phone rings. Tim doesn't like it becuase it takes forever for it to register to him that it's the phone ringing and not something else. He and Aiden decided it kind of reminded them of the ice cream truck. Well today at lunch the phone rang and when I got up to answer it Aiden told me, "It's just the ice cream truck Mom."

Primary Program

Yesterday was the primary program in our ward. Aiden did great. I think he was a little nervous so he didn't just say his part he waited for the teacher and just repeated what she said. I guess it was a good thing though because the lines that they gave us for him to practice weren't what they had him say and I didn't even hear anyone else say them instead so I guess they must have changed it a little! I don't think he likes to mess up though. He looked very concerned as he was singing the songs and quite often would sing the last word of a line after everyone else. He was still singing though and doing his best and we were very proud of him.

Broken zipper?

I think my jacket must have a broken or jammed zipper. It will only go up a couple of inches and then gets stuck!!

Bring on the Pie!!!

Well I had my three hour glucose test this morning and I passed with flying colors. Other than sore arms I'm doing fantastic now that I don't have to worry so much about that. Thanksgiving can come now!! Have a great day everyone.

Breakfast

Kaylise was really cute at breakfast this morning. Tim had finished eating and was putting away some apples that we dried yesterday and I was still getting my breakfast ready, Aiden was done eating his cereal and waiting for me to warm up his muffin too. Kaylise was still at the table with her cereal. Tim looked over and saw her pulling the box closer and asked, "you still need more?" Kaylise responded, "yeah, my tummy said it's not full." :)

High Tech Doors!

This post is special for my Dad. He reminded me a while back of a very funny incident that occured while I was working at their nursery. He was kind enough to get a picture to me so I could give you a visual to go along with the story! There are several greenhouses at my parents' nursery and one of them has a little bit different kind of door handle. It is a pipe handle that slides over to latch the door shut. On the outside of the greenhouse next to the door hangs a watering clock. Well one day I was walking by and there was a couple standing there pushing all sorts of buttons on the clock. I wasn't really sure what they were trying to do so I asked if I could help them. They asked if they could go in that greenhouse to look around. I said sure and at this point was using great restraint not to laugh at them so as not to make them feel too bad. I walked over and slide the handle to the side and opened the door and then went on my way. I found my Dad and as best I could through the laughter explained that he may want to check that clock to make sure the watering times were still correct after the couple left!! Apparently it was a pretty high tech looking door to have to have a code or something to get in. :)

Primary Songs

Kaylise and Aiden are getting really good at singing lots of the primary songs. It's interesting to see what they associate them with. We made a little star cupcake/mini cake the other day and Kaylise just kept singing "I am like a Star" when she would see it. They have been singing "Families Can Be Together Forever" a lot too. Almost everytime we go somewhere and the kids try to run faster than I can go I tell them we need to stick together and Kaylise will quite often start singing the primary song. The best was when I came out of the doctors office a week ago and made that comment both Aiden and Kaylise started singing at the top of their lungs and they sang most of the song too. Our ward is getting ready for the primary program (I think it's tomorrow) and they sent home a CD with the songs they wanted the kids to practice. One of them is "Called to Serve." Kaylise has decided this is her favorite. She sings the chorus all the time and when we are in the car she just wants me to play that one over and over. She sings along quite well with it. I thought it was kind of funny last night though. We went to a baptism and she said she couldn't sing she only sang in the car! After the girl was baptized Kaylise kept asking if it was her turn and we kept trying to tell her that when she was eight she could be baptized but she would just hold up her hands and say, "I am eight. See. Look." She wasn't exactly whispering either! It was quite the struggle through the rest of the talks to keep her distracted from asking for her turn and insisting that she was old enough already to be baptized. Kids definately make life interesting.

Automatic Toilets

This week for playgroup we went to a play area in the mall. Shortly after we got there Aiden informed me that he needed to go to the bathroom and he had to poop. Well the restrooms were on the other end of the mall so we walked forever to get to them. Then while he was going to the bathroom he leaned forward a little too far and the toilet flushed on him. It was pretty loud too. I could only see through the crack but he jumped off pretty darn quick and asked what just happened. I explained that he leaned too far forward so the toilet didn't think he was there anymore and it flushed. Then I told him to get back on and go potty before he had an accident. He very slowly climbed back on and did his business. Just as he told me he was finished it flushed on him again and he bailed off pretty fast again. I felt bad for the little guy but at the same time it was hard not to laugh!

FHE

I made a turtle cake with the kids for FHE treat last night. They had fun helping, especially with the icing as you can see!

Failed :(

I went in for a doctor's appointment today and they had me take a glucose test. I failed it and have to go back next week for a three hour test and get poked four times. I really hate needles. Today when the nurse took my blood she had me hold the cotton ball on it while she grabbed a band-aid and there wasn't hardly any blood on it when I pulled it away to put the band-aid on. She was impressed that I didn't even bleed. Well she walked out the door and Aiden looked at me and said "uh-oh Mom." I looked down and my arm was gushing a stream of blood under the band-aid. I got it on my pants and the table and the floor and was trying to figure out what to do as I sat there waiting. I grabbed a paper towel and took the band-aid back off and just applied pressure. It stopped again almost as quickly as it started it was really quite odd. So it was quite an eventful morning.

Aiden's lesson

Tonight after scriptures Aiden climbed off my lap and said he wanted to share a lesson with me. He went to the shelf and picked up a Friend magazine and brought it back to me. He stood in front of me looking through the pages for a minute and then said, "Mom I want to share this one with you. Will you read it to me so I know what it says?" I thought it was a pretty sly way to get me to read to him but it worked!

Sticker fun!

Kaylise and Aiden found some Pirates of the Caribbean stickers and put them all over their legs. I thought it was pretty cute, especially their explanation of what they were! Here are a few pictures and then a video in their own words of what they are doing!

I'm so glad when Daddy comes home.

Tim left us this weekend to go to Austin and score some tests that high school Spanish teachers took. It was a good experience for him but not the best here at home. We all missed him terribly. It was a rough weekend. Kaylise just kept wanting Dad and every time she prayed she would say, "please bless Daddy to be safe at school cause I want him to be at school." I think she figured if he was at the school then he would come home. Well Saturday morning the kids were pretty good to me. They woke up at six and talked to each other and played in their beds until around seven when it started to get lighter. Then they went and played in the living room for about fifteen minutes before coming in to see if I was ready to get up because it was morning. Although it was still a bit earlier than I am used to getting up when Tim is home they were really nice to me. We had a good morning and afternoon. Kaylise still asked about Dad a lot but wasn't too terrible. Then Saturday night came. Kaylise spilled her punch everywhere, Aiden got bbq sauce on his shirt and then I came down with a migraine. I took a tylenol but my head gradually started to pound more so by 7:15 pm we were all in bed. I couldn't believe it when I saw the clock the next morning and it was 7 am. I had to get up a couple times in the night but for the most part slept well and so did the kids. Sunday morning the kids just kept asking if it was time to get ready for church. I told them that we had to go to church, eat and play for a little bit before it would be time to get Dad. So they just wanted to get things done sooner! We survived the time alone and picked Tim up shortly after six Sunday night. We were all so happy to have Dad home again. He is the best ever and we missed him greatly and really appreciate all that he does for us. The kids had tons of fun playing with him until bedtime and they were happy to have him back for bedtime story too!

Right after we got home you would have thought it was Christmas! The kids helped Tim unload his duffle bag. Each shirt, sock, pants, etc Kaylise pulled out and was so excited about it and saying, "oh look he brought this back for you." It was really fun to watch her and Aiden get excited about emptying the bag.

Aiden was really funny. He asked Tim if he had gone to someplace that sounded similar to honky tonky. Tim said honky tonky back to him and Aiden said yes. We told him no that he had been to Austin. My parents called on the phone a few minutes later and he tried to tell them something about honky tonky and I tried to explain that I had no idea where he came up with those words because I don't recall ever using them or a movie or anything else I could think of. As I was trying to explain that I didn't know where he got it from he interrupted me and said, "no mom it's from Dad's shirt with the two horses." It finally clicked as to what he was referring to. Tim has a shirt of Don Quixote on a horse. I busted up laughing. I guess since Tim was doing something with Spanish he just associated it with that shirt and couldn't remember exactly how to say the name!!

Halloween candy

We have a ton of Halloween candy at our house that just sits on the counter. The kids had some the first few days after Halloween and then they lost interest or something. I think I have abnormal children in this department. Kaylise asked for a treat the other day so I put the bags down on the floor for her to look through and choose something while I went to do something. Well she came in about five minutes later and asked, "Mommy can you help me find a treat? I looked and looked and couldn't find anything that's tasty to me." I can guarantee you it wasn't because there was a lack of things to choose from!

Computer's attitude

Today Tim called to see if I could email him some homework that he needed to fix and have for class. While I was on the phone with him trying to find the file he was looking for Aiden decided he wanted to play a computer game on Tim's laptop. I told him that would be okay and he proceeded to turn on the computer and get the game going. After a minute he says, "Uhh, it's not in the right attitude." Tim and I had a good chuckle over that one! The computer was just in the wrong screen and his game wasn't quite running yet so he didn't think it was working.

Witches

I forgot to mention that when we went to the school on Halloween they had this big witch that was motion sensitve and would start stirring it's brew and talking when you walked by. Aiden and Kaylise were both pretty scared of it. Over the next few days they kept talking about scary witches. One morning they were talking about it lots and kind of scaring each other. I told them that there weren't any witches and Aiden replied, "I know we're just pretending." I said it was okay to pretend as long as it wasn't scaring either one of them to which he said, "We're not scaring each other the witch is scaring us."

Smoked Hashbrowns!

So last weekend I was trying to do too many things in one day! I put a big pot of potatoes outside on the camp stove to boil so it wouldn't heat up the house. I came back in with good intentions to set a timer but somehow as soon as I left the garage they never even entered my mind again. Two hours later when we went to get our bikes to go to the park there was a terrible smell coming from the garage. Imagine that! Needless to say the potatoes were a bit done. I was going to shred them up for hashbrowns and was a little disappointed I had ruined a whole bag of potatoes. Well the next morning I looked closer at them and figured if I cut the outer layer off it didn't look too bad and maybe I could salvage something. I then shredded them up and put them in bags in the freezer. Well this morning we decided to try some and see how they were. They started smelling rather strong as they cooked and I was a bit leery of how they were going to taste. They actually weren't bad at all. I asked Tim what he thought and he said it was almost like having them smoked. Jokingly I commented they were smoked. What with? Burnt potatoes!!

Picnic

Last week we went to the park for a picnic dinner. The kids had fun playing while we took turns cooking and getting the hamburgers ready. Kaylise really liked the chips as you can see from her face!

Little Bakers

Here are a few pictures of the kids the day they got their hats and aprons. They love them!

At the Park

We went to a park that is mostly for climbing. Aiden thinks it is really cool but Kaylise just asks for the swings which unfortunately they don't have any of at this park. They have a big path for bikes though. So we took Tim and our bikes with us on Halloween before we went trick or treating at the mall. I think everyone had a good time. Kaylise has recently learned how to pedal and was quite proud of how fast she could go! Here are a few pics.

Halloween

The Tuesday before Halloween we went to our ward Trunk or treat. The kids had fun and Tim even decided to dress up! Aiden wanted to be a dinosaur that night. Then he decided to be superman for the other Halloween activities we did. Except for a little while on Halloween morning. We made some cookies for everyone at Tim's work and took them in to wish them a Happy Halloween and Aiden wore his new chef hat and apron. That afternoon we went to the park and played for a while before going trick or treating at the mall. We ran into some friends and walked around with them for a little bit before Aiden decided there were too many people and he was ready to go home and go around the neighborhood. We went around a couple of blocks and then came home. We have way too much candy now! I finally uploaded the few pictures we took. So here you go. Enjoy.

Love You Forever

Tim found some of his books from when he was a kid and pulled them out to read with Aiden and Kaylise. One of them is "Love You Forever." Kaylise calls it the baby book and requests it every night for bedtime. Well yesterday while I was shopping with the kids Kaylise reached over and grabbed Aiden and started rocking him back and forth saying, "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my Aiden you'll be." He wasn't exactly in the mood and didn't react with as much enthusiasm but I thought it was really cute.

It's morning Dad!

Kaylise was really cute yesterday. We had stayed up a little later the night before since it was Halloween and we were out trick or treating and then the kids carved pumpkins with Tim. I will try to post those pictures soon too but I don't have them downloaded to the computer yet. Anyway Kaylise didn't get up until just after 8:00 so it was a little lighter than normal. She came into the room just as chipper as can be and says, "Dad it's morning. See look. So get up." He kind of groaned in response and she told him again, "It's morning. See look. Get up lets go for a jog." So being the great dad that he is Tim got up and took her for a jog. Aiden woke up a few minutes later and he came in and visited with me for a little bit. After a few minutes he looked at me and asked if it was Turkey day? I figured it was because we have been telling him for the last month that we needed to have Halloween then Thanksgiving then Christmas then Dad's birthday and possibly a couple other birthdays before baby brother comes. I guess he figured that once Halloween came then the rest of the events just came one day after another! He's a pretty smart kid and really thinks things through though.
