The UFC is taking some risks. Up until now there has not been the hype of such charades as the WWE.
The UFC athletes give the appearances they are average Joes. Real people. The skilled athlete, not necessarily the biggest or most aggressive, wins. The guy who has a strategy and keeps his wits about him, wins.

Brock Lesnar winning the UFC Heavyweight Championship was bad for the UFC. Lesnar is an incredible athlete and he happens to be 280 lbs. NCAA Champion. A Freak. Who wanted him to win? He had 50 lbs on Couture. He he was over 10 years younger. He also doesn’t have a fraction of Couture’s MMA skills.
So Lesnar won. He caught Couture with and elbow. It would have been better if Couture had submitted Lesnar. It would have shown actual skill versus brute force.
A part of the attraction of UFC / MMA is the “idea” that the skilled athlete will beat the “big bully”. Frank Mir beating Lesnar was the perfect example of this concept. (Perhaps when the UFC grows, they should have a super-heavyweight class. Lesnar is simply too much larger than everyone else… except for Kimbo Slice… )
