Auld Lang Syne

New Years Eve! I can’t believe another year has come and gone. We made so many happy memories in 2010, a majority of which involved my sister and her sweet family. My boys love their crazy cousins and their fun aunt and uncle. We had such a fun night. The adults got “grown-up” food from Five Guys Burgers. Yum! There were a few heated games of Uno Flip and quite a bit of name-calling, throwing tantrums, and pouting – but then the kids told us to behave and we shaped up. The kids had a good time also. They ate pizza, cookies and ice cream cones and played games all night long. Talk about a party!

We had nerf gun wars so intense that some weapons were permanently disabled and bullets were lodged in places I’m sure they’ll never be found. I think that Jared had the most fun because “Daddy gets the big gun!”

We don’t have live television in our home so instead of watching the ball drop at midnight, the kids found their own ball and slowly lowered it to the count of ten; once it hit the floor – HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thanks for all the memories kiddos. Here’s to another year full of happy times.

Mom of the Year

My mother always cooked a hot breakfast for us. Every morning before school we would fill up on whole wheat pancakes, french toast with homemade bread, apple cinnamon muffins, oatmeal with raisins, and a variety of other healthy, hot options. My mom rocked. I don’t know how she did it. By the time I get up and exercise, shower and do my hair, get everyone up and dressed, track down backpacks, shoes and coats, and then pack Porter’s lunch – I barely have time to toss some bowls on the table and grab the cold cereal out of the pantry. So I am sorry to say that most mornings, Porter heads off to school with a belly full of Fruit Loops and a piece of toast or two. I didn’t realize how often I served up the sugary, nutritionally-devoid cereals until I overheard Porter discussing breakfast with his cousins. When they spoke of pancakes, he sighed enviously and replied, “You guys are so lucky! I only ever get cereal for breakfast.” Yup . . . I’m mother of the year. My resolution for 2011? Be more like my mom.

Spaghetti Night = Bath Night

It is an unwritten law that when eating spaghetti with bright red sauce, a one-year-old must smear it all over his hair, forehead, eyelids, cheeks, nose, mouth, neck and ears. Therefore spaghetti night at our house always means bath night. Which I don’t mind in the least. There is nothing I love more than a freshly bathed baby wrapped in a towel. Hooray for spaghetti night!

Catching Up

The last eight months have been so wonderful! We moved into a home in Roy that is an answer to our prayers. We live  in a beautiful cul-de-sac overflowing with the local neighborhood boys. We have a wonderful new ward where Jared is serving as Sunday School President and I am in Young Women’s. We are so very happy and blessed. Here’s a few pictures from the last eight months with a promise of more to come. Thanks to anyone still checking this much neglected blog.

Our two littlest enjoying a snack in our new kitchen. And yes, Hyrum is gnawing on a watermelon rind.

In June, I took the boys to the Layton park where my sweet sister attempted to get all three of them to stand still long enough to say “Cheese”. I love the results. They looked so professional, the photo tech at Walmart made me sign a copyright waiver.

Our funny little Dallin is a sleeper. He absolutely must have his rest, or he collapses during the day. It doesn’t matter where or when; if he’s tired – he will sleep, even if it means he sleeps with his boots on.

Both Dallin and Hyrum have a thing for shoes, especially shoes that are too big for their little feet.

Dallin is in Joy School this year. He loves being with his friends and learning new things. He was Joseph in our Christmas program and then even got to sit on Santa’s lap afterwards. Dallin is growing and changing every day. His personality and sense of humor shines in our home and brings everyone such happiness. We love you Dallin!

Words can’t express how grateful I am for my boys. They are such good brothers to each other. I love them so much and feel honored each day to be their mother. I am also blessed with the most wonderful husband in the whole world. He loves and me and supports me unconditionally. I love you so much Sweetheart. Thank you for being you.
