The Very Hungry Caterpillar

For preschool last month, we learned about caterpillars and butterflies. We ordered some caterpillars and watched them grow from tiny babies to big, fat, fuzzy adults.

We watched them hang upside down and were amazed as each one formed a perfect chrysalis.

We carefully moved them to the butterfly pavilion and waited anxiously for the butterflies to emerge.

Watching new butterflies come out was so cool! The boys were enthralled. We fed them sugar-water and orange slices for a few days and then let them fly free. Best preschool unit ever!

Puppy Love

My boys love dogs, but because I’m a mean mom (and because half the family is allergic), I refuse to let them have one. So these poor picked-on kids resort to pretending to be the pet for which they yearn. They crawl around on all fours, barking and begging to be petted. They were thrilled the other day when I took the make-believe game to new level and set out bowls of water so they could quench their canine thirst in true doggie fashion. Now I’m not such a mean mom. In fact, and I quote, I’m the “best mom ever!” And all it took was letting them lap water while lying on the floor. Who knew?

More Birthday Wishes

I just don’t think there is any better way to say, “Happy Birthday. We love you!’ than with a Muppet video. So, to the people we love who have a birthday today – you know who you are – Happy Birthday!!!!!

Hoe Down

Hyrum loves to help me in the garden. His favorite tool is the hoe, which he has officially claimed as his “shovel.” He digs for rocks and excavates big holes and occasionally steps on a pea plant or two, but he is too cute to kick out. And I really like the company.

You can blame the plethera of pictures on my inability to make decisions lately. I couldn’t pick. So I used them all.

Bacon Monster

Dallin loves bacon. No, I mean really, really loves bacon. It’s a salty love affair that makes him ridiculously happy. The only thing that eases my ever-present mother-guilt as I watch him gobble up his fourth piece is this little fact – it’s turkey bacon. And it makes him smile. That’s enough for me.

Super Fine

He inherited my hair – super fine, super soft and super statically charged on trampolines. Look close, you’ll see the wispy blonde strands sticking straight up.

Ready!

I told the kids to get ready to go the park. Hyrum came upstairs with his shoe, his hat and his CTR necklace on. “Ready!” he shouted proudly. I’m so glad that to my little two-year-old, being ready includes wearing a reminder to make good choices. I’m proud of you Hyrum.

Puhsketee

Dallin: Mom, can you help me say puhsketee?

Mom: Sure. Spuh-get-ee

Dallin: Ps-get-ee

Mom: Spuh-get-ee

Dallin: Sup-sget-ee

Mom: Spuh-get-ee

Dallin: Puh-sket-ee

Mom: Close enough.

Dallin: Yes!

Pigs in a Blanket

April 24th was National Pig in a Blanket Day. Any day that monumental warrants celebrating, and celebrate we did. I wrapped hot dogs in homemade breadstick dough and baked them for lunch. The kids were estactic. Which is pretty sad. I guess I don’t venture out of our normal lunch routine often. We ate them while we watched the original Three Little Pigs by Disney. A classic I grew up with, but the boys had never seen. It was a fun, random, mid-week memory.

Happy Pig in a Blanket Day!
