House votes to renew Obamacare subsidies for 3 years
The House has voted to renew Obamacare subsidies for three years. Seventeen House Republicans voted with Democrats to continue the health insurance tax credits that expired at the end of December. GOP leaders were unable to stop the vote because enough lawmakers signed a discharge petition to overrule the House Speaker. The bill now goes to the Senate, where pressure is building for a similar bipartisan compromise.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) says he;s observed a lot of presidents and says they all try to exert as much executive power as they can. The Senate is set to vote on a war powers measure following the ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. This report from Bernie Bennett in Washington.
VERBATIM:
Virginia Democrat Sen. Tim Kaine said he will force a vote next week to block further military action against Venezuela without congressional approval in the wake of President Donald Trump’s operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he expects “further briefings from the administration on this operation as part of its comprehensive counternarcotics strategy.” House Speaker Mike Johnson added that the Trump administration is working to schedule briefings for lawmakers when they return.

The new mayor of New York is moving quickly
VERBATIM: Zohran Mamdani promised to fix a lot of problems on the campaign trail, but his first priority seems to be eliminating all pro-Israel executive orders issued by his predecessor. In his first hours in office Mamdani, New York’s first Muslim mayor, has revoked orders that barred the city from joining the anti-Israel Boycott, Divest, Sanctions movement and other directives by Eric Adams that aimed at curbing anti-Semitism.
