Our wonderful sister-in-law, Lindsey of Triple Lux Photography, took this photo of Stephen and me this summer!
I knew there was something special about today’s date: August 7th… but I didn’t figure out what it was until WordPress reminded me of it: Today is my 5th Blogaversary! I’ve had this blog for five whole years already. Thank you for reading, commenting, sharing, and growing with me.
Five years ago I had just went through my first serious breakup, and I needed something new in my life, so I finally just launched my blog. This blog is a place where I share thoughts and advice on transitioning well through life, and I have had SO MANY wonderful (and some painful) transitions through these five years:

Thank you for stopping by! Here’s a bit about me for those of you who have just followed me recently (and a new mother update for those of you who know me already.)
Here’s three important things about me:
1. I enjoy writing. I have been scribbling words since I was two years old and now I get to write while nursing my baby boy, and a little bit when he is napping.

Happy 2018, my friends!! May this year burst with new life, hope, peace, and amazing surprises. ☺️ Continue reading →

Hi! I'm Mary (or Mrs. Schuh if I was your Language Arts teacher). Here's some of my story…
///
At age two I started filling notebooks with squiggles, and I have loved writing since then; my grandma and Mom also wrote and teach — I guess writing is in my blood! I started a blog, Trees of Transition, for fun four years ago, and have enjoyed sharing stories, photos, thoughts on transitions.
///
I started snapping photos with a little film camera at about age 10, and I've enjoyed taking photos since then wherever I go — Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Southwest USA, and lots from my home area of the Midwest USA. About 2 1/2 years I started a card shop where I turn those photos into cards, Trees of Transition Art & Design, on Etsy selling photography and pressed flower cards. I desire to help support people going through life transitions, so 10% of business' profits goes to a ministry that is helping people going through life transitions, such as adoption or unexpected pregnancy.
///
Currently I'm going through a huge life change of moving from being a classroom teacher to being a stay at home wife and mom with a small business. (I have a little boy sticking his foot in my ribs — he is due to arrive in November!)
///
If you know someone who likes nature cards, please share my site with them, and thank you for stopping by!

Four years ago my heart still felt pretty mangled from my first big breakup, but having more free time inspired me to start my blog. I'm so glad I did! Thank you for your readership and follows (which is over 500 followers now…WOW!)
My first blog post relates my vision for this blog: I write to encourage, give resources, and inspire people as they go through life transitions. Continue reading →
Today I wrote a review of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen using only 144 words; having to condense the story to its main points, like a movie trailer, is a great way to practice writing more concisely. Here’s what came out:
Jump in and take a risk you are thinking about– even if it makes you quake in your boots. I love this quote from Oprah Winfrey:
For example, yesterday a local flower shop was giving away roses to people named Mary (they pick a different name every Friday for free rose Friday.) I was making notecards at home, but when I saw that it was my name they picked, I had to decide if I wanted to drive ten minutes to receive a free rose. I pondered the situation and then decided to go for it! I walked into the shop, asked for a rose, and they let me have this beautiful peachy/maroon bloom.
I’m glad I took that little risk because I have a rose that smells like honey on my counter. 🌹 Take that risk today!

Sometimes screaming is just the right way to process something. For example, last night I saw a hairy caterpillar (which I vacuumed up), and it was just so ugly (it had some of the featheriness of this flower) screaming made me feel so much better! Try it. 🙂

Vegetables should make you smile–look at them! The peppers are sunny yellow and October orange. The cauliflower’s texture looks like a moon surface (or at least something that might be on the moon). My Dad hated hearing the crunch of celery, but that is one thing I love about celery. And when you pop some peanut butter and raisins on that celery, you have a great snack. Or as my Dad and brother did one Valentine’s Day… Continue reading →
