Travel – Enchanted River

by : Bacardi Gold
26/april/2022

The Philippines has never ran out of beautiful places for visitors to see and explore. One could be fascinated and charmed when they visit this particular place that will attract their attention on its unusual character.

In Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, Philippines, there’s a river that the local people claimed to be enchanted. Unverified stories circulating, a fisherman laid claim stories of fish that could not be caught in the river because it is haunted by supernatural beings.

No diver has ever fathomed its depth, not even skilled or professional ones.

The “Enchanted River”, flows into the Philippine sea and the Pacific ocean at Barangay Talisay, Hinatuan. Modesto Farolan, the Father of Philippine Tourism, gave its name as described in his poem “Rio Encantado”.

This deep spring river, though enchanted as its name suggests, is slowly being unclothed of its mysteries. As far as divers have explored, they discovered a series of underground caves that interconnect each other acting as filters for the water making it clear all year round.

Local legends were inspired by its exceptional and mystifying color changes during daytime turning it to hues of sapphire and jade.

It is still unknown to fully understand how and where the water source originates from even a diver’s life was claimed by the river in 2014, its first victim, at 40 meters beneath the surface. He was trapped at a narrow entrance cave and never showed up to catch his last breath of air.

Experiments are still a continuing process to unearth how enchanted this river could be.

The photographer said, “At the count of three, raise your hands, 1, 2, 3 “. I did not do it. The order fell on deaf ears. My knees were trembling while my companion was enjoying the thrill of his life. He was at the peak of fun while I was in labor finishing the distance of toeing the line.

Writings on the tree barks

“If you want to experience a forest, mingle among its trees,” writes Michael Wojtech.

Trees have their protective outer covering in their trunks and branches that are colored gray and brown. There are variations in their colors and textures, if you examine it closely.

In the picture, you can see that their skin are carved by sharp objects by tourists who visited Nogas island in the province of Antique, Western Visayas, Philippines. Aren’t the tourists hurting the trees in such a way that they are piercing the tree barks. Leaving their names on trees won’t make them famous.

I find this statue very unusual in its form. I thought this was a mermaid, but looking at how the bend at the stomach makes her more of a snake than a mermaid. Her odd and very strange figure is likely that of a carnivorous reptile. Do you agree with me ?

You can find this incredible “being” inside the premises of Dawal beach resort in Zambales, Philippines.
