Hi there guys, hope you didn’t miss me too much!
I’ve missed the blogs the last 2 weeks but I’ve finally
settled in at work so I can now make time for some proper blogging…but only
from next week onwards lol.
Ok first things first…the new job.
I mentioned last time that I was busy with my induction and
training on the new system. Well that was barely done and I was overloaded with
files to attend to! Fortunately my immediate supervisor is a really cool (and
hot) young lady and she’s been helping me get to grips with the work load. She’s
been gone for a week now so I’ve had to cope on my own.
My job mostly entails doing research for various issues. I
will be presented with a file and I have to identify whatever legal issue there
is or what the dispute is and do research. Once the research is done and I’ve
set out my opinion, I send it to an assessment panel, which is organised by one
of the senior employees and he signs off on it. He normally phones if he doesn’t
understand something or if he picks up a mistake. Its rather cool and takes
some of the pressure off you.
Our department head called me in after my first week to tell
me that she was really impressed and that they didn’t bank on me settling in so
quickly. As a result of this I’ve been given more files and I’ve hardly had
time to breath!!
In the litigation department we’re about 18 staff, which
includes the professional staff and our assistants. Oh yes, I have my own
assistant…they’re called Legal Assistants and they’re basically your secretary
but because we have male and female assistants they decided to call them
assistants lol.
So far everything is awesome…the atmosphere is so relaxed
and everyone is really friendly! Just to show you how relaxed the atmosphere is
– on Wednesdays and Fridays you may wear jeans to work provided you don’t have
any scheduled appointments. Our
boardroom is actually more a lounge than a boardroom and we have this huge LED
tv with dstv and no one bothers you if you decide to take a 10min break and
check what’s on tv. Cool hey!?
So that’s more or less how things have been so far and I’ve
been loving every second of it.
I won’t be able to reply to all the comments but hopefully
next week my laptop will be set up and I’ll have more blogging time.
