Treasure hunters, please take note:
Adventure’s calling! Steer your boat
By X-marked maps toward the dawn
And glory! Just stay off my lawn.
Month: January 2020
And They Won’t Yield The Armrest
Donkeys are a boy’s best friend
If making sure his pal’s tail’s pinned
Securely is his favorite game
But otherwise as buds they’re lame.
They don’t play fetch. They rarely run.
The TV shows they quote aren’t fun.
They’re next to worthless buying beer
(If worthless is right there, they’re here).
Donkeys all excel at spelling
But don’t crib their quiz: They’re telling!
Not because you broke a rule;
They’re simply fond of pigeon stool.
Cheerful donkeys do exist
But any donkeywatcher’s list
That documents a smiling ass
Has quite a skeptic’s bar to pass.
Donkeys are by no report
Ideal emotional support
Companions, so it isn’t right
My seatmate brought one on this flight.
Supplies Are Limited
I’ll do the best that I can do
But that’s my maximum. Should you
Require more, might I suggest
Recruiting elsewhere for the rest?
Cabbage
I’m not a fan of cabbage
Though I’ll candidly admit
I’ve no good reasons for my feelings
We’re just not a perfect fit
I like it on fish tacos
And some slaws are more than fine
And life without great sauerkraut
Would be less rich than mine
Don’t get me started on kim chee
Or I may never stop
But in my Roundish Leafy Tourney
Cabbage ain’t on top
Say I’m too judgmental
I’ll be loath to disagree
I’m not a fan
And man oh man
It’s not a fan of me
Afternap
Fresher. Not as fresh
As a daisy, maybe, but…
Dandelion? Sure.
Choices
I want nothing more
Than to have someone I trust
Tell me what I want
Dave’s Not Here, Man
Hardest are the days
When I try to phone it in
And no one picks up
Hear Me Shout
My electric teapot
Medium size
Greeted me this morning
With a creepy surprise
Turned it on and skootched it
Frowned with doubt
Checked the ‘lectrics
‘Bout a thousand ants swarmed out
Know Your Opponent
It’s discouraging
Always coming from behind
When you’re by yourself
And They Do Know
Almost everybody’s faking
Competence. What’s harder, though,
Is faking it with confidence
So they don’t know you know they know.
