Rain Check

These cetaceans in my city
Don’t appreciate the pretty
Destination that they’ve reached:
They’re distracted ’cause they’re beached
And dehydration is a danger.
Though they blame their tour arranger
For apparently forgetting
Whales are mammals who need wetting
Rather more than now and then,
Next big rain, they’ll try again.

Reminder

Today’s an Easy Day. Relax!
Don’t chase the mad, unruly packs
But keep the pace you’d planned, no faster.
Wasted effort spells disaster
Later in the week. Be good
And do the work you know you should
Including on your discipline.
Today’s an Easy Day.
Begin.

I Summon Birds

I summon birds.
I raise my fist
And call them hence:
“Come!” I insist.
Birds on wires,
Flocks afar,
I summon birds
Where’er they are.
Birds in bushes,
On the wing,
Birds that squawk,
Or cheep or sing,
Birds that love me
Or deplore me,
All are summoned.
All ignore me.
