Quince × 5

La Quinceañera is a rite
Of passage much beloved. Tonight
Quintuple that, and raise a drink to
Hans’ Quinceañera cinco!
As it’s less tradition-bound,
He’s less elaborately gowned
Than at his first; still, I confess
I’d like to’ve seen the puffy dress!

Too Much Is Enough

When dawn to dusk is overcast
The day feels like it’s over fast,
Or maybe never quite got started
Till its namesake light departed.
Don’t think that’s a gripe. It’s not!
I’d rather overcast than hot
Probably three days in ten.
Bring on the sunshine! I’ll say “when.”

Octocat

My cat thinks she’s an octopus
And tries to open tins.
She lies in wait until quite late
And then the fun begins:
She clambers from her glass-walled tank
And crawls across the floor
To scale the cabinet and get
Utensils from the drawer
Above the dinner dish in which
Decanted food would splat
If she could just manipulate
Her tools. But she’s a cat.
