At this week’s COMPUTEX TAIPEI, Taiwan’s AI momentum is taking the spotlight, with major tech companies showcasing the infrastructure and applications shaping the next wave of innovation. But beyond the biggest names, another layer of Taiwan’s AI story is also emerging through healthcare startups. Taiwan’s healthcare startups are applying AI to specific medical and caregiving challenges, including drug development, cancer diagnostics, IVF, cardiac monitoring, and elderly care. Their work shows how AI can move past broad industry buzzwords and become part of more targeted, practical solutions for patients, clinicians, and caregivers. The next challenge? Moving these innovations beyond pilots and prototypes into broader healthcare adoption. Read more: https://bit.ly/4dLZTEw

Last week, AmCham Taiwan was honored to hold a courtesy meeting with the 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (MOTC) 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐡-𝐤𝐚𝐢 and his leadership team. The meeting marked our first official dialogue with Minister Chen since he took office and introduced our Tourism and Transport Committee, formed this January through the integration of the former Transport and Logistics, and Travel and Tourism committees, to strengthen cross-sector collaboration and policy impact. Led by AmCham President Carl Wegner, Committee Co-Chairs Pei Chih Marvin Ma and Fiona Yuan, both sides exchanged views on key issues across the transport, logistics, and tourism sectors. The Committee shared the following recommendations with the MOTC: ▪️ 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Expanding the definition of U.S.-origin vehicles under the Taiwan-U.S. Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) and simplifying import procedures (such as certification document requirements), upgrading road markings to enhance all-weather safety, and modernizing Mobility as a Service (MaaS) through public-private partnerships. ▪️ 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬: Developing policies to address the temporary parking challenges of urban logistics, and exploring available warehousing and logistics facilities near commercial ports. ▪️ 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 & 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦: Retaining international hospitality interns, expanding the adoption rate of international digital payments throughout the traveler experience, unlocking new business opportunities for future Integrated Resorts (IR) and MICE tourism, and expanding the scope for non-traditional tourism stakeholders to participate in policy discussions. We sincerely thank Minister Chen and representatives from MOTC’s administrations for their valuable insights, as well as the Ministry’s continued efforts to update regulations and improve administrative efficiency. AmCham Taiwan looks forward to working together to support innovation, strengthen the business environment, and advance Taiwan’s tourism and transport industries.

Taiwan continues to receive strong bipartisan support in the U.S., reflecting its growing importance as a strategic partner in technology, supply chain resilience, trade, and regional economic security. 【𝑻𝑶𝑷𝑰𝑪𝑺: 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐉𝐚𝐛𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬?】 Obesity in Taiwan is increasingly being discussed as a long-term public health challenge, especially as new weight-loss injections such as GLP-1 and GIP drugs gain attention. While these treatments may offer new possibilities for obesity care, experts caution that medication is not a shortcut. Cost, access, side effects, misuse, and counterfeit products all remain important concerns. Sustainable weight management still depends on proper clinical assessment, lifestyle changes, behavioral support, and safe treatment channels.
