Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, sits across 42 acres of hillside above Pochote Bay in Costa Rica. The design team, led by 10 Design as Design Architect alongside EDSA, commissioned a full tree survey before a single building was placed. Structures were relocated around root systems, view corridors were protected, and the master plan literally bent itself around the existing canopy. Hacienda-style architecture at the arrival gives way to increasingly open, nature-immersed lodgings as you move down the hillside, with every piece of millwork handcrafted by Guanacaste artisans. The land led, and every decision followed that. We sat down with Sabrina Klor, CEO of 10 Design, on The Bespoke Careers Podcast to hear how a practice gets to work like this. The result is a resort rooted in its place rather than dropped onto it. In the past two months, Nekajui picked up TIME Magazine's World's Greatest Places for 2026, Development of the Year at ALIS CALA and Best Branded Residences at the HD Awards.

How do you become a leader in architecture? Can you lead a practice without being an architect? Sabrina Klor trained as an architect and spent 20 years at one practice before becoming CEO of 10 Design. In that 20 years she reinvented herself from architect to leader. She read every MBA book she could find. She studied the business side daily, and still does. Her answer: she couldn't have done it without her architecture background, but the business side doesn't come for free. The 20 years of doing the work is what made the leadership possible for her. Bespoke Careers reposted this
Lessons I’ve learned… In a world where we are constantly pushed to focus only on results, targets and outcomes, I am really grateful to Bespoke Careers for creating the space to talk about what matters most to me… the journey itself. The reality behind leadership is rarely as polished as people imagine. It is not one person with all the answers. It is a continuous process of learning, listening, making difficult decisions, getting things wrong, growing, and most importantly, being surrounded by the right people. Leading 400 architects across 9 studios at 10 Design and being part of the wider 10N Collective has taught me so much about people, resilience and growth. I like to think of leadership not as being the smartest person in the room, but as creating the conditions for talented people to thrive, challenge each other, support one another and grow together. I was also very grateful for the opportunity to speak honestly about leadership, the architecture profession, the pressure of growth, imposter syndrome, motherhood, ambition, resilience and the importance of continuing to learn at every stage of your career. Thank you again to the Bespoke Careers team for such an open and thoughtful conversation. If there is one thing I hope people take from it, it is this: Your career is not built in the big headline moments alone. It is built quietly, every day, through the people you choose to learn from, trust, support and grow alongside. 10 Design part of 10N Collective owned by Egis Women in Architecture UK 🎧 Full conversation here: https://lnkd.in/eJnGCnuN
