TT Instruments presented its King’s Award for Enterprise 📢🌟 Blackburn-based TT Instruments (TechPlant) has celebrated its King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade at a ceremony attended by Lancashire’s Lord-Lieutenant. It was presented to the company at its Wainwright Court premises. The ceremony, held last week, was attended by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mrs Amanda Parker JP. She presented TT Instruments® with both its Grant of Appointment and commemorative trophy on behalf of His Majesty The King. It is being recognised for more than doubling exports over three years. The company sources rare and hard-to-find instruments from UK corporate disposal cycles, restores them to manufacturer specification, and exports to over 70 countries worldwide. Former CEO of Babcock appointed Knight of France’s Legion of Honour 📢🌟 David Lockwood, the former CEO of Babcock International Group and President of ADS Group Ltd, has been appointed Knight in the Order of the Legion of Honour in France. This is by decree of the President of the French Republic dated 10 August 2026. David Lockwood announced his retirement as group chief executive of Babcock International at the beginning of the year. The appointment officially recognises Lockwood’s significant contribution to strengthening cooperation between the UK and France. “I am deeply honoured to receive this distinction from the French Republic,” said Lockwood. “While awarded to an individual, I see it as recognition of the many talented colleagues across Babcock who work every day to support our French customers and partners. “It has been a privilege to help build relationships that continue to strengthen cooperation between France and the UK, and I am grateful for the trust, commitment and friendship of all those I have had the opportunity to work with throughout my career.” Read the full story 👉 https://lnkd.in/eEZfA-Kn

European Space Agency - ESA, Axiom Space sign a MoU for post-ISS space ecosystem 📢🌟 The European Space Agency (#ESA) and Axiom Space have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a post-International Space Station ecosystem. The agency and the in-orbit infrastructure specialist say they will “explore cooperation on the development of space infrastructure, research, and commercial activities in LEO”. This includes the use of a possible European Cargo Return service and potentially a European Crew Vehicle. The latter would be part of the transportation system to support operations of the Axiom Station. Axiom Space – along with Orbital Reef and Starlab – is one of Nasa’s three competing commercial space station partners. They are all working on the design and development of possible new “orbital destinations” to replace the current International Space Station. The MoU also includes potential cooperation on Axiom Space’s spacesuits for orbital and lunar applications. Specifically, opportunities to improve the European Astronaut Centre’s capabilities for Extra Vehicular Activity (#EVA) and lunar surface training, using the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (#AxEMU), right. KVector Ltd raises £3.8m to commercialise low-power beam-steered antenna 📢🌟 University of Birmingham spin-out KVector has raised £3.8 million to commercialise a low-power alternative to #AESA (active electronically scanned array) phased array antennas. Its beam-steered antenna – working from X-band to sub-terahertz bands – is designed to achieve the performance of an electronically steered array. Its patented approach, however, swaps the electronics stack for engineered metamaterial surfaces in a more simple electro-mechanical architecture. This aims to reduce the cost, weight and power of radar and satellite communications. The funding was raised via the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II (MEIF II) through fund manager Mercia Ventures, UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund [UKI2S] (managed by Future Planet Capital) and the University of Birmingham itself. Henry Nurser, co-founder and Executive Chair of #KVector, commented on the raise: “I’m excited to be working with Alex, James and our expanding team to realise the commercial potential of this technology, which could have a significant impact on the sensing and communications sector. We are deliberately saying little about our partners and applications at this stage due to the commercial sensitivity of the deals. What we can say is that this investment lets us accelerate development, deepen the work already under way, and build the foundations for a world-class company here in the UK.” As one of the investors, Mercia Ventures, highlighted existing constraints. “Until now, deployment of radar and satellite communications systems has been constrained by the size and weight of equipment and its power requirements, ” said David Baker, the Portfolio Director, Mercia. “By overcoming these barriers, KVector’s technology could position the UK at the forefront of wireless sensing and communications. We are pleased to work with our fellow investors to help support its growth.
